Dave Does the window exist but not being shown, or being shown off screen. Command line wmctrl -l should show all Windows visible or not, it also has some commands to force Windows to show themselves, check the man page. Alt+tab can show "lightly" hidden Windows.

I had a similar experience last week migrating JMRI to a new(er) laptop. I installed Mint 18.3 and following instructions on the JMRI web site, installed Oracle java 8. The initial execution of Decoder Pro went through the initializing process ok. When it finished, but before terminating it, I could open the PanelPro menu, but from there could not open the Edit/Preferences. After terminating that session, if I tried to launch PanelPro, it showed the gray JMRI splash screen and started the Loconet Simulator window, but froze right there.
After several variations, I installed Mint 18.3 from scratch again, then tried java -version. It told me that no java was installed, but that the distribution included packages for java 8 and java 9. I used the Software Manager app to install "default-jre". It installed openjdk-8-jre. I installed JMRI, and PanelPro appears normally and seems to work properly. I am only using the Operations features, so this is not a complete test, but it may be worth trying on your system.
My conclusion is that there is some issue with the Oracle package on Mint 18, perhaps a dependency or compatibility problem, but the openjdk built in to the distribution avoids the problems.
I just migrated to this new laptop last week and don't have much invested in it yet, so if there is some test I could run to narrow down the problem, let me know.

JMRI (or its version) have nothing to do with the PTB100 and its presence or absence.

If your decoders programmed fine with it in place, I wouldn't worry. It's extremely unlikely to do any damage. I'm sure that if there was any risk, SoundTraxx would have issued a warning with its decoders, particularly since they also make the PTB100.

Can I damage the decoder? Will using the PTB100 cause the decoder to "misbehave"? I have programed several 200's over the past 12 months all the while using the PTB and while I don't notice anything unusual, now I'm thinking maybe I should "reset" the decoder without the PTB.

Locked Re: Logix vs Signal Mast Logic - help please.

Dave (and Spuds), I have added virtual masts ;wrong way' and set up the
logic by hand for the turnouts and blocks approaching that mast - which
works to the required spec. I have used three aspect masts simply because
that is what is on the panel, and would allow me to see further up the
track if I expand this later - interestingly the default was green, but
quickly worked out that setting it to stop gave me the yellow aspect on
approach to the junction needed. Thanks for the help! John

Locked Re: JMRI, Linux, Zephr DCS51 and Loconet USB-buffer

JMRI 4.1

java v 1.8.0_151

That was a really good guess though, indeed the all but one of the options were set to internal so I changed them to loconet.

Now the power button in JMRI shows "unknown" and clicking on it does nothing.

Locked Re: Logix vs Signal Mast Logic - help please.

Spuds,

The challenge that John had was that the only generated signal mast logic was for the proper main with the turnout closed. If the turnout was set to cross over to the wrong main, the signal mast displayed red since there was no logic to say otherwise.

By putting a hidden virtual mast at a block boundary on the wrong main pointing the wrong direction, it is now possible to generate logic that is active when the turnout is thrown. Since the virtual mast will default to red (Stop), the mast before the turnout will display yellow. I am assuming that he is using a single head mast.

The same thing can also be done by using the virtual mast but create manual logic instead by specifying the turnout and block states. This eliminates the need to place the virtual mast on the panel.

With so little information it's just guessing. Assuming 4.10, go to your preferences and select Defaults from the menu on the left. Make sure all the check boxes are set for LocoNet.

Locked JMRI, Linux, Zephr DCS51 and Loconet USB-buffer

I'm trying out Linux Korora (Fedora based). For months I was using Linux Mint (Ubuntu) until I broke something and well.... anyway... decided to try something new.

Now for Korora, while I got JMRI installed and running, even got withrottle working so my ipod detects it (surprisingly simple firewall modification). Even though there's no error messages, JMRI can't seem to power on/off my Digitrax system.

I know there must be other Linux DCC people out there, so I'd like to hear what you're using, and what Linux distro you recommend using with model railroading and JMRI.

Presently I'm using Loco-buffer USB.

Would something else work better or be easier to setup? Seems like Locobuffer is always complicating things for me when trying to connect to the layout.

Locked Connecting a block occupancy detector with "RailCom" ?

Probably a bit of a newbie question ...

How does JMRI expect to talk to a BOD that supports RailCom ??

I don't have a particular BOD in mind - thinking about making my own
and wondering about how it would have to integrate into JMRI.

Locked Re: Decoder Pro is exceptionally sluggish

If your installer is locking up, expect JMRI to not function correctly.

The first thing to do is to go to Programs & Features and uninstall any JMRI versions showing. Keep doing so until none are seen (an F5 will refresh the Programs and Features window). There can be multiple overlaid installations (all users and just me).

Then check log on as an administrator (if you aren't already) and check C:\Program Files (x86)\JMRI. Delete or rename it if present.

Log on as your normal username and follow these instructions to access that user's VirtualStore folder:
<>

Look for any "Program Files/JMRI" folder and delete/rename it.

Now install JMRI and make sure you "Install for all users".

May be a good idea to also uninstall all Java versions and install the latest V1.8 (V8) Java.

Locked Re: WiThrottle viewing turnouts

All, I've tried Brian and David's panel files and can confirm what they're seeing.
The problem seems to be with the WiThrottle Filter Controls window. If I open a panel file which has some (or all) turnouts flagged as "Include" they work fine. But I cannot "Include" any more, and if I click one of the "Included" flags, it turns off and cannot be turned back on. Pressing the Select All likewise clears all flags.
This is with a very recent Jenkins build, on my demo Linux server.
Turning on the DEBUG logging for WiThrottle clearly shows only the "Included" turnouts in the list which is sent to the client.
I can also confirm this with my panel.
I will try and get Eclipse debugging working again on my computer next week. Until then, if anyone else wants to tackle this, please do so.
Regards,
SteveT
