Re: JMRI Controlling my Railroad

I've seen your request. Because the NCE USB jumper settings and JMRI settings differ between the Power Cab and the SB5, plus the need to ensure the Power Cab Panel (PCP) with its power supply remains standalone with no connection to the SB5 (you will still need to have the ability to use the Power Cab standalone for Program Track operations - the SB5 has no Program Track facility), there are a number of ways to do this. Since this question is often asked, I'll write up a document to cover the various options and their merits. But I'm rather busy at present so it may take a day or so. But in the interim I'll just mention that the optimum configuration includes buying a second NCE USB and also (if needed) a UTP panel to increase the number of connections to the SB5 over the two available on the front panel (but you won't need that if you only have one throttle). -- Dave in Australia On 26 Jun 2017, at 2:27 AM, Verner Shoup lucyshoup@... Re: Transfer one JMRI Loco File to another Model so both locos are identical
Simply right-click on the existing roster entry in DecoderPro's main roster window (or open the Roster window in PanelPro). "Duplicate" will be one of the options in the dropdown menu that appears.

Yes, to get a custom load to a spur you do need a schedule. You might want to think about using a C/I type track to replace the spur. You do not need a Spur to do the restrictions you need for these moves. Jim E. On 6/25/2017 11:29 AM, bburke@... [jmriusers] wrote:

Spur not accepting custom load
I have set up a spur Houston-2 to accept any road, any load and any train in staging, but it is not a staging track. I have another spur in an on-line yard called Grain train. The grain train is restricted to five loads, one of which is grain. Any train can set out, only the Grain train can pick up. When running the Grain train I get the msg " Can't set out (PPX 1171) to track (Houston-2) due to car has a custom load (Grain).
I have a suspicion a schedule may be required, or I need to change the track to staging, something I would rather not do as I want a variety of trains to occupy that track, not the same one over and over. Any ideas appreciated; you guys are a very helpful group. Bob Burke |

JMRI Controlling my Railroad
I want to first say thanks to Dave for helping me get JMRI working. ?I am getting use to (everyday) using JMRI on my programming track. ?Now I want to hook it into my layout.?Ihave a NCE SB5 Command Station controlling the layout, making my NCE Power Cabto act as a Pro Cab.? The SB5 sendcommands through a NCE circuit breaker, which then sends commands to the tracksetc.? ?How is the USB Interface/JMRI/Computer wired into the NCE SB5 CommandStation? ?I hope my question makes sense.

Some research suggests this can be ignored, however, it also suggests that some hostile software shipped with the same DLL, which might be why it is flagged.

Hi Paul!
Trying the nightly available today I've still got trouble using DecoderPro (didn't try anything else), but is different now. Up to now the connection was lost/stuck/whatever and I had to reset JMRI and often the Z21. Now it is stuck for a minute or so and then continues. Looking into the log shows that it is stuck when the curious "serial numer request" messages appear. Problems with writing a script to stop a train at a station.
Hello,
I am trying my hand some automation scripts. I figured making a train stop at station should not be that difficult. The set up: JMRI latest release, NCE dcc. Using aiu connected to an IR sensor. I wait for the IR sensor go active then stop the train 2 seconds later. I am crawling into the station so it should take some time to reach the end of the platform. The problem I am having is the train consistently stop at the station platforms. I know that there are some variable propagation delay involved here but there should be no difference between the aiu signaling the train to stop and my throttle signaling the train to stop. I can always stop the train at the platform using the throttle. Why can't a script be nearly as accurate as a throttle? The AIU uses the same buss as the throttle and the output signal goes out across the same track buss. Does any one have a script that can stop a train at a station platform consistently? If so can you share your secrets with us? Thanks in advance, NewHavenRailFan . |

... I got curious today and decided to take a look at how 'big' JMRI is, in the sense of how much work has gone into it over the years. Now, there are a lot of different ways to quantify this but I thought I would use a simple count of the Source Lines of Code (SLOC) as a rough measure. There is a commonly used utility in Linux called 'sloccount' by David A. Wheeler that counts the lines of code (not including blank lines or comments) and does an estimate of the commercial cost of development. I took a download of the project, applied the utility using defaults and was somewhat surprised at the results (all results rounded): 1.4 million lines of code, which it estimated would take 76 developers 5 years and cost $53,000,000. Looking at the breakdowns, it can be argued that those results are overstated since about 60% of that is in XML files for the decoder and programmer definitions, and those are generally easier to create since they can be done using a lot of cut and paste and many are done by non-programmers. Mind you, the cost estimates also used industry salary figures from 2001, so they could be understated also. Applying the utility to just the 'java' directory, which is where the actual program code resides, still gave some impressive results: Over 500 thousand lines of code, estimated as taking 44 developers 4 years and costing $22,000,000. Cost to users: $0 This also doesn't count the effort in all the help files, manuals, web site, clinics/tutorials and the efforts of the various people that help each other on this mailing list. I counted over 240 individuals and organizations explicitly identified on the acknowledgement page. Not too shabby for a bunch of model railroaders. Dennis Miller ... Re: Transfer one JMRI Loco File to another Model so both locos are identical
Yorkshire Dale,
Open the roster entry that you want to duplicate.I have one Loco File that I want another Loco to be identical to, how do I do this<<< Now look for a menu option under one of the tabs or pull down menus that says "Duplicate"'. Click that option and follow the prompts. Change the ID of the new entry and save to roster. Open the new roster entry & make changes to the roster entry. When done, save the roster entry again, put the target engine on the programming track and write all sheets. The above is not a detailed step by step approach, but more of a genera Guidance. I'm on the road and don't access to DP to write a detailed reply, but this should be enough to guide you to a successful conclusion - some details may vary, but this is the general direction. Let me know how this works for you. Best regards, Steve Haas On the road in Antioch, IL |

I would like to express my appreciation for the whole development team for the great effort you all put into making JMRi stronger and richer in functionalities. I myself had some problems in the past with the software, and people here helped a lot to find a solution (which I found by myself, anyways) to solve a particular issue with my setup, but the insights I received were very useful to address the solution path. I would say that this community could not be better in attending users in need. I doubt a commercial software house would have better goodwill and rate of success in troubleshooting. The last release of the software solved two big problems that were harassing me since a long time: 1) A java issue that prevented tables windows to open and VSD to work 2) Layout panels in Engine Driver didn't work properly as I could not press on the turnouts circles to throw them in my Samsung S6 Now both problems seem to have vanished and I'm a very happy JMRi user. Thank you a lot! Regards Roberto 2017-06-23 20:01 GMT-03:00 Bob Jacobsen rgj1927@... [jmriusers] < jmriusers@...>:
