Service Menu IC-7000 Tune Power for a Screwdriver/controller 3
Hello I am trying to finish up my mobile HF installation. Still having some issues, but I've grounded and bonded the radio, antenna, etc. very well (maybe however, not well enough). I've also installed lots of good quality ferrites. After talking to the manufacturer of the screwdriver controller, he suggested I try reducing the tune power. The unit is a Tune-Matic EZ-Tune (Icom). So, I inserted a shorted 1/8" TS male plug into the CI-V jack and turned the radio on with two of the front buttons pressed. I'm in the service menu. There is an item under the TX submenu where you can adjust the tune power (AM) when hitting the remote AT button on front. The current setting is "36". However, I cannot change this value by rotating the VFO knob per the service manual. Any suggestions? Thanks Philip Neidlinger KA4KOE

IC-7000 with full ALC in HF 3
Hi guys I have in my hands an IC-7000 with several issue. One of them is the following : in HF I had 100 watt in all bands, no problem but ALC meter goes always in full-red zone, the ALC scale is full. I beleive was an adj issue so I have dona all adjustament as service manual describes. Before bias driver and finals (1 & 2), no problem, Gain HF1, HF2, HF3; then power 1, 10 , 25, 50, 75, 90 and 105 watt, perfect ! ALC setting ok But when I go in RTTY full power I have ALC meter completly in full scale (red) I suppose there is an block in TX-chain doesn't work very well so CPU pumps ALC to max. Does anyone have any suggestions ? Thanks in advance. 73s, Pasquale IW0HEX

Fixing the unrepairable IC7000 34
Hey everyone, I am new to this group and I am in the process of repairing a few IC-7000s. One was given to me by my grandfather and the other was my dad's that failed and was deemed irreparable due to parts being unavailable. Turns out my dad's IC-7000 was actually my grandfather's (KB4NZJ's). My grandfather passed away a few years ago and his IC-7000 became a donor radio to fix mine, but after finding out the history, I am determined to fix it. My radio had the dreaded click-click problem no turn on problem. My grandfather's, wouldn't turn on, I never tried it, but was listed with Bad Main Board, Bad Logic Board, and Bad DDS Module. My desire to fix it was originally to learn a new skill and do something nice for my dad, but after finding out the story behind the radio, its more sentimental. KB4RU (IC-7000 Fix) My radio was repaired once before but after about a year, it failed again. I found once I pulled apart the display unit, the Capacitors that were supposed to be 100uf 16v were actually 47uf 25v. I was afraid this took out parts in my radio and after tearing it apart and checking it over, I found nothing appearing damaged. Pulled apart the other display unit and turns out the screens were switched at some point between the radios. Put the other screen on mine, and it came back to life. Thank god, easy fix for the first one. Replaced the Capacitors with the correct ones and the other display unit now works and turns the radio on. Looks like one of the 2 caps failed. FYI, Digikey lists 100uF 20v as an upgrade for the caps, they are slightly too thick and create a bulge in the back of the display case. Stick to the 16v. Onto the second radio. KB4NZJ (Silent Key) IC-7000 Display Board- This is the older IC-7000, the display board above had the 47uf 20v Caps described above. Replaced caps and its working as it should now. Main Board- I thought I had a burned resistor and failed cap near the logic board connection point. Cleaned the char off and found a burnt trace going to the connector. I attempted to bridge the trace and the wire kept shifting to the space between the pins. I tried to remove the connector and make a new trace, but everything kept moving around it kept getting worse until I ended accidently pulling up the whole trace. After several hours trying to make something work, I gave up and ordered a new main board for now. Eventually, I will try to cut and make a new trace to keep the mainboard as a spare. Surface mount PCB repairs and overall radio repairs is a new learning experience for me. Logic board- Found a burned inductor on the back side of the logic board. Replaced the inductor and logic board appears to be working again! I tested it in my radio and it powered up and appeared to be working normally. DDS- Says No RX, No TX. I have looked all over it with magnifying glass and have not found anything appearing damaged. I haven't poked around with the multimeter yet, but I decided to start with the Main Board and Logic to see if I can get it to power on, then try the DDS board. I am not sure how it was tested to determine it was no good. May have originally come out of my radio, but I am not sure which part came from which radio originally anymore. Inspiration for others. Hopefully this helps someone else have some hope in restoring their IC-7000 and keeps a few more of these wonderful radios alive. I will post up some pictures of the projects later on. I never attempted to repair these myself before because it was outside of my comfort zone and something I never did before. However, I had the option of try it and see what happens and learn something new or give up on the radio and let it sit in the attic. Glad I did. A lot of this is easier than I expected, and I am learning a lot as I go along. I have minimal experience fixing radios and by no means an expert in soldering or electronics repair. My dad taught me the basics and I learned the rest on YouTube. So, don't give up. If you're determined enough, it can be done.

IC7000 no HF Transmit 69
I purchased an IC7000 with the condition that will not transmit on all HF bands. VHF/UHF transmit at the designed power out in all modes. Receiver works excellent in all bands all modes. Since VHF/UHF transmit proves that the Driver circuit works I have focused on the HF circuit. With a scope, I see hf signal through the driver and through the power transistors Q301 and Q302. The bias current is set properly. All board traces seem to be in-tack and pass the signal through to the ANT1 connector when terminated with a dummy load, but the signal barely registers on the external power meter when the power control is set to 100%. Any help for further troubleshooting will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tommy KF4RWG

Adjusting 7
Interesting question, could anyone find information about the values ??of the IC-7000 Main Board L701 Transformer, the coil itself can't be found anywhere, so you have to do it if you don't happen to find something used. T. Pentti OH5KOA

Japan version needing frequency expansion on 2m/440 6
Hello all! I recently purchased the Japan version of the IC-7000 for use in my my shack while my other USA version one will stay as a mobile. Of course there are some difference in frequencies between this one and the USA version. Mainly the 2m/440 bands is where the most differences are . On this model, 2m is only 144 to 146 mhz and 70cm is 430 to 440 mhz. . It appears the typical MARS mod does not expand these 2 bands to get the full US frequencies. I would like to expand these 2 bands so I'm asking here if anyone knows if this possible and what would be the procedure be. Thanks! 73 Andrew K5KNM

IC-7000 corrupted eeprom 17
Hi All Hope all are having a good xmas and wish all the best for 2025. Just reaching out to anyone in the group that has taken a download of their eeprom. I have a feeling my one is corrupt after i plugged my logic board into a japanese version radio and now my 6m band is missing and don't get general coverage receive. This is the same logic board that has an audio issue from another post ( still waiting on some parts to arrive ) I should have taken a download before the operation. If anyone has a ICSP programmer like my ASIX Forte then downloading the contents is fairly straight forward. Any help would be appreciated James

2 meter sideband audio 6
Today we set up a portable station with a 2 meter Diamond horizontal Yagi, and we made one contact with another station on 144.200. While both of us were on 144.200 USB, the other station's audio sounded slow and low pitched. We tried adjusting the frequency to see if we could get it centered and sound right like on HF, but there was no frequency that sound right... only low pitched or high pitched. Is there an issue with IC-7000 2 meter SSB mode or is there something else I should try to adjust to fix the audio. Thanks 73 John Denison KD5YOU

Overheating - urban legend 11
Le 01/01/2025 à 14:43, Bob KM4RL a écrit : > A 2 watt resistor is good for 12 volt systems. I favor 150 Ohm resistors > to bypass fan thermostats in Astron SS-30 power supplies and other > equipment. The top cover of the IC7000 is a heat sink. There's a reason it has thermal pads. Take a thermal camera and you'll see that the heating isn't that great after all. The modification with the fan running all the time will cause dust to accumulate inside over the long term. You'll need to clean it from time to time. Personally, I cool it with an external fan and a KSD9700 because the hot air is blocked by a shelf 10 cm above it. Before, it wasn't cooled down and the unit has been in operation for almost 100,000 hours... Search my videos on tiktok and thermal camera measurement... ? Best regards, Ludovic - F5PBG
