Re: need help with my old yeasu ft-817
开云体育Rob I have a guy that does a great job on my radios. Had him work on my 817,Kenwood 200, Kenwood 450SAT. His name is Tim Moes in South Dakota. ? E-mail is tommoes@.... He does not accept bank cards. He is real reasonable. He does not charge you until you get your radio back. Dave On 3/28/2025 7:30 AM, Rob VE3RXH via

Re: Iambic mode - A or B?
John,
I'd second the recommendation for a single lever paddle.? A single lever is pretty much the same as using a bug.? If you accidentally manually key you dashes, the keyer will still accept the input (unless you like to send really long dashes with your bug!).? I use a 3D printed single lever paddle that was designed by Adam, K6ARK - actually, I printed a bunch of them and have one for each radio.

Re: need help with my old yeasu ft-817
I'm curious what they did and what they charged. I sent an FT857D to Yaesu in California for repair a year ago. They told me they would need to replace the main board and it would cost over $650. This was more than I had paid for the radio. It gave me a clue, though, about where the trouble was. I had the radio returned to me. What had happened was that I was operating portable on 50 MHz in a contest one day and saw some smoke come from the radio and it stopped transmitting. I had been looking for problems on the PA board, not the main board. After I got the radio back, I found a transistor on the main board that was burnt. I was able to order a replacement part from RF Parts and replace it for $5. It has been working ever since. I was surprised they didn't do that repair themselves. 开云体育Yes Jerry I use a great guy in South Dakota. He worked on my 817, Kenwood 2000, and Kenwood 450SAT. He does not take credit cards but the best thing is he will not charge you until you get the radio. Tell me some one else that will do that??!! Re: Power bank questions
Sorry, the configuration is one 3-long string of 2 cells in parallel (not 2 parallel strings).
I dug deeper into the reviews. People say there is indeed a built-in charge balancing in the Aili powerbank.
The pairs of cells still must be closely matched, but this is true for all other powerbanks where cells are connected in parallel. I am using cells from old 3S2P laptop batteries, where cell pairs are already welded together.

Re: Iambic mode - A or B?
I use a palm radio pico paddle attached to the underside of the FT817 when doing on the air cw. But i go on VBAND website to practice a lot, and for that i detach the key from the radio connect it to the phone with a circuit and just hold it with the left hand while sending with the right hand. Bottom line being i think anything is possible as long as you get used to it. The paddle in hand thing works for me with the pico paddle because its small and light. with a regular sized paddle other will probably not be practical.
?
I like paddles for the practicality and because you can’t send badly spaced/timed characters, that helps to build good “mental timing”. And i got used to “squeezing” sending some letters using both sides of the paddle simultaneously.?
But I haven't been doing CW for as long as you. ?

Re: Windcamp Battery
开云体育Just looked on Ebay. Mostly the battery-plate-charger kits. Or same kit with the plastic stand. I've had good luck with the Windcamps (have 2 FT-817ND's) 73, Rich W1GBB Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone -------- Original message -------- From: "David Tucker via groups.io" <nu4ndave@...> Date: 3/27/25 16:14 (GMT-05:00) Subject: Re: [ft817] Windcamp Battery Thanks Kevin for the reply.
