CAT Display with an CAT Splitter for FT-817ND and others?

Hi guys, how does it work?
I am looking for a way to add a CAT display?
My question:
Is it possible to add the AT display with a Y-cable?
I have an Ft817ND and an LDT Z-817 tuner in use, and would like to use the original CAT display from the Cris from Australia and not a copy.

Re: Bioenno 9A battery BOGO deal

I bought this, 2 9AHr batteries $100.? I have another I have been using with my IC705 for about 4 years.? The Bioenno are great batteries, much better than the Chinese versions.

Also will work with my FT817.

Bioenno is having a BOGO (Buy One Get One) offer on 9 Amp 12 volt LiFePO4 batteries - and as a friend on another group proved [0] these are very nice battery packs.

Im pretty sure the deal is only good in the U.S. (sorry), but I encourage you to look into it, it's a great deal, esp if you goo in with a friend and split a pair of batteries.

I ordered a pair of these batteries, each with its own 2 amp charger for $115 with $10 s/h, so final cost was $62.50 for a quality 9 amp batter and a nice charger. Here is the link to the deal in their website:

Re: Possible place to look " finals "

KA6PSD

After 5 days trying different searches I found there are fuses on the main board. Followed the 12 volts in all the way to the fuse which then passes through and to the side where the finals board gets it's power., however the power stopped at the fuse. Now have fuses on the way here to see if I can get the new finals board to power up.

Possible place to look " finals "

KA6PSD

No 12 voltage passing through main board to the finals board. Any ideas what components to look for.

Yaesu XF-122 C, 500 Hz Collins Mechanical,Filter FS

Yaesu XF-122 C, 500 Hz Collins Mechanical
Filter For Sale:

I have a Yaesu XF-122 C, 500 Hz Collins
Mechanical Filter For Sale. It is sometimes
called a YF-122 C. It also has the 528-8686-030
Collins number on it. It is for a 455 KHz IF.

My understanding is that it fits YAESU FT-817/
857/897/818, and maybe others.

It includes the PC board with connectors.

This one works 100% as it should. It also
looks like new, as if that matters for a
filter inside a rig.

Buy it for $250, plus shipping from Florida.

Thanks.

ALC question

Hello,

I think I know the answer, but let's see: by the end of the charge (say, 1/5th of estimated battery charge), if I'm TXing SSB or DATA, on 5 W, ALC goes to zero. If I set power to 2.5 W or less, ALC goes back to normal.?

When the former happens, does it mean the battery is not providing enough voltage to the radio?

Daniel PY2TDB.

Re: Winlink with Vara HF and FT-818 via Digirig

The line-level radio "DATA" (really audio) output is almost certainly overdriving the default mic-level input of the DigiRig. The solution is to enable the Digirig's built-in 20db attenuator.

Here's a good video that show's how:

I've done it to 2 Digirigs for Winlink on an FT-817nd, an FT-897d, and an Icom IC-208h. Really brings the transmit audio into reasonable levels. I consider it essential for my puposes.

Here's a good link that explains line vs mic levels:

Hope this helps,

Re: Winlink with Vara HF and FT-818 via Digirig

Rod,
?
is your digirig setup in the duplex serial CAT with logic levels configuration? It can be changed after the fact if necessary. The 818 works with that config but I have heard the trusdx can work in any config.

good luck,

Winlink with Vara HF and FT-818 via Digirig

I've been experimenting with Winlink on my radios and had success with my little trU(SDX) but cannot Tx/Rx winlink with the FT-818.
I have CAT control set up OK as the radio tries to connect with various local RMS gateways, but Winlink always reports that a Failure to connect."
Ive tested a few different Baud rates without success, and have checked the Digirig settings under SoundCard and it seems to me that there needs to be an adjustment to the transmit audio to the radio from the PC where the ALC is adjusted (that was the key to success with the trU(SDX).
?
Anyone with the above combo who have been successful and can chime in? Or anyone with a depth of knowledge about this radio and soundcard combo.
?
Thanks!

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BATTERY POWER !!!!!

Here is how to read the FT-817 power display.

?

To control the power levels, press the function (F) button for <1 second, [Pg 12, item 8], then rotate the SELECT knob [Pg 12, item 13] to display menu item 9 [ PWR MTR xxx ] on Pg 15.? (xxx will equal pwr for POWER level, alc for ALC level, swr for SWR display or mod for FM deviation level).? Press button A to control the power level, button B to select the meter display [Pg 12, item 9].? Press the PWR button (button A) 4 times or more to step through the display.

?

With an input voltage or battery voltage GREATER THAN ~ 11.5 volts, the display will look like this.

?

(L_l__) One bar displayed = 0.5 watts.

(L_ll_) Two bars displayed = 1.0 watts.

(L_lll) Three bars displayed = 2.5 watts.

(L____) No bars displayed = 5.0 watts.

?

?

With an input voltage or battery voltage LESS THAN ~ 11.5 volts, the display will look like this.

?

(L_l__) One bar displayed = 0.5 watts.

(L_ll_) Two bars displayed = 1.0 watts.

(L_lll) Three bars displayed = 2.5 watts.

(L____)-(L_lll) (BLINKING) Three BLINKING bars displayed = 5.0 watts.

*note1.

?

This information is in the FT-817ND manual, on page 28.? It just isn't written very well.

?

*note1:? The blinking display is a warning that you are using the 5-watt level while on battery power, and with the stock YAESU battery, your time on the air will be limited.? Using a larger external battery, or one of the larger capacity internal batteries will increase your air-time considerably.

?

The reality is that it has nothing to do with battery or power supply.? It is simply sensing the voltage applied to the radio.? Any voltage below about 11.5v will show a blinking display.? Any voltage above about 11.5v will show a steady display.? It has nothing to do with what the power source really is.

Thanks. I finally got out my QRP dummy load wattmeter, which I should have done earlier. What confused me was when the lines are full it's 2.5 watts, then steps down, 1 watt then .5 watt to no lines at 5 watts, but at 5 watts there is a square left on the display vs an L looking thing.?
