I'm curious what they did and what they charged. I sent an FT857D to Yaesu in California for repair a year ago. They told me they would need to replace the main board and it would cost over $650. This was more than I had paid for the radio. It gave me a clue, though, about where the trouble was. I had the radio returned to me.
What had happened was that I was operating portable on 50 MHz in a contest one day and saw some smoke come from the radio and it stopped transmitting. I had been looking for problems on the PA board, not the main board. After I got the radio back, I found a transistor on the main board that was burnt. I was able to order a replacement part from RF Parts and replace it for $5. It has been working ever since. I was surprised they didn't do that repair themselves.
