Re: MV side windows 4 EVCs ?

The Fantastic Fans are great, especially if you want to keep a dog in the
car while you walk around somewhere. (Somewhere with normal temps, not here
in Florida.) My parents have them in their Isata motorhome and I looked at
them for the EVC. Unfortunately, I have about 1/16" clearance into the
garage as it is.

No sticker there on mine. ?I can see the carpet, the soundproofing pad, the wires going through that panel on their way to the door, but no 4" square sticker. ?Oh well, thanks anyway. ?I'm almost certain I have the low compression engine anyway...... ?10/92 date of manufacture, no air pump, and I guess just one knock sensor (where is the second one anyway?)

What kind of compression numbers do you get in the 10:1 engine? ?I assume they would be markedly higher than those from the 8.5:1 engine, right?

Thanks,
Mike

EuroWinny Warranty

Hi All, My local VW dealer (MA) tellsme that none of the VW dealerships
handle repairs or warranty of the Camper Conversion part of the EV. Is this
true? What success have people had with warranties and parts replacement? Is
there an 800 number or web address for Winnebago. I would be grateful to hear
of your experience allong these lines.
My upper bed came with two mattress pads- looks like there should be
a couple more. What is the proper arrangement?
Thanks in advance, John

Gary, Enjoyed hearing about your trip. Maybe you can give some advice. On
Monday at noon I'll be going to Sarasota, FL from MD starting on I95.. Any
tips on where to stay or what to see on the way down?

Once at Sarasota, I'll be staying at Siesta Key at Gulf Beach Campground.
Anyone on the list have any experience there. I noticed the discussion for
the past few days on mechanics in the FL area. I'll keep a file on them in
case they are needed.\

Re: interference engine?

Donald,

I'm also sure the engine code is not cast into the plug side of the head; I
can see that pretty clearly and completely. I can't see the manifold side
at all. I see numbers/letters on the block, but nothing like early (code
AAF) low compression or later (code ACU).

My EV does have a 10/92 date of manufacture. I looked at the original
window sticker, and other that noting that Fahrvergnugen is a No Charge
Special Feature, there wasn't any engine code.

The emissions sticker says this, among other info: PVW 2.5 T5FWX5

That's some reference to the engine, but I don't know exactly what, except
it's apparently emissions related.

What "fuse block" do you mean? My fuses, along with relays and a data port,
are behind a panel on on the part of the dash above the driver's left knee.
I don't see a decal anywhere near by though.

Can you describe to location of your decal with a bit more detail?

Thanks,
Mike

The "book" says that the engine code is cast into the head either on
the spark plug side or the oil filter side, I have never found it
there. But the engine code is on the data sticker just to the left of
the fuse block. It should be right next to where it says "engine code"

The production date for the high compression ACU engine is listed as
3/94 so its safe to say that no 93 model year EV's have it. More or
less this engine, in the US, was only used on 95 and latter EV-C's
and Rialtas. In the rest of the world it is still in production today.

But if this is a stock engine there is a simple way to look at the
engine and tell: If there is a big black electric motor/blower (air
injection pump) just in front of the engine then its a high
compression engine.

Gary's right. I do have Conti Contrans tires on our '99 Rialta. They are
quiet, handle well, and don't show much wear at 13k miles (although I
haven't measured the tread depth). I haven't tried to find a source for them
thought.

Alexis,

They used Continentals on the 97 Rialtas. I met an owner who
used them for
38,000 miles and they were replacing them, free, because of
excess wear!
Pretty good service. The owner was from Great Britain and had
done most of
US but intended to return the Rialta to GB at completion of tour. He
thought the Conti's were an excellent tire. Don't forget the
Rialta weighs
3000 lbs more than our EVC's.
Ken Korn might have them on his, too.

Power Windows Problem

Ken Korn

I have a '99 Rialta. I just installed a set of window deflectors from
eurocampers.com (which fit nicely by the way).

Today the driver's side window won't go all the way down anymore. When I hit
the power window switch, the window goes down about half way and stops.
Pressing the switch again in the down direction has no effect. In the up
direction, the window closes normally. Therefore I can't open the window
more than half way.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Any idea about a solution?

an option that you can use (or not) that will show you where certain

Re: help - water in headlight

As many of us I have water in my headlights. Being a rare 89 degress today in
Rochester, NY, I decided to take out the headlights - dry them - put them
back together and run a bead of silicone sealer all around the outside.

I recalled many threads ago to remove the 8mm bolts which hold the headlight
unit in place.

I did this - headlight became loose - but sure didnt come out.

Could anyone else describe what to do? I can see the little Phillips screws
at two corners but assume these are for adjusting the headlights.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Have you experienced the Continental L23C 215/70R15C's?

The Goodyear G64's seem noisy to some due to their aggressive "all-season"
tread also. Now say the infamous Agilis are "relatively quiet" ... "smart
looking" ... and allow your EVC "corner like on rails" ?! ;) What Agilis
tire size were you able to acquire there in Canada? Thanks for the .02 worth

Re: MV side windows 4 EVCs ?

From the comments made so far, it occures to me, one could contact
Winnebego directly to see if they could return the original VW slide
design they removed to the slidingdoor and window next to the
camping unit (they must have them about for a little while before
they probably send them back to VW
in Germany?).

The rear quarter panel window with the long crank design seems like a
gain in air flow/ventilation for lower bed use at night I would think,
over the old no open design for my '86 Westy.

What's Winnebego's contact info for this purpose ?

I am not certain but the early (code AAF) low compression EV 5 cyl
engines are probably ok if the timing belt broke, but the latter
(code ACU) high compression engines and all diesels would not be.

Re: tire rotation- x or rf to rb ??

Donald Gibbons

The 93 EV owners manual does say that tires should normally be
rotated front to rear but it also says that "X" rotation is OK to
correct improper wear such as feather edging.

Most, if not all tire mfgs now have no restriction on X rotation.
This is sort of an urban legend with tires made today.

Re: interference engine?

Donald Gibbons

I am not certain but the early (code AAF) low compression EV 5 cyl
engines are probably ok if the timing belt broke, but the latter
(code ACU) high compression engines and all diesels would not be.

A side issue (not on any engine presently used in EV's) is if the
valves will hit each other when the belt breaks. Many VW mulitvalve
head designs have a small chain connecting the cams that will prevent
this.

Tires: Quick and Dirty

My experience with the Continental Contact tire (which are/were available
in both all-season (CT 22) and winter (TS 750) designs) was very good in
terms of performance, if a little noisy. Mind you, I don't know how well
the previous owner of my '95 GLS treated them: They might well have
grown flat spots, been subjected to poor alignment, or not been rotated
properly. Excellent traction in the snow with the TS 750; I'm on the
lookout for 3 new ones for next winter.

My experience with Goodyear is very limited: EXPENSIVE! The cheapest
price I found in my research was Can$175 each _before_ installation. eek.

I'm VERY happy with the Agilis 51 tires. They'll be fed and changed
faithfully, kept in a cool dark place in the winter, and given a yearly
4-wheel alignment. They are smooth and (relatively) quiet on the
highway, corner as if on rails in the city, and are smart-looking to
boot. _And_ they were a good buy (for non-big-city-Canada), retailed at
Can$145 each.
