I've been using this brilliant piece of software for years but I think there's a missing function that could be useful to many diyers. I'm referring to hybrid bridges. Now I'm working at a little 2A3 amplifier and the idea is to use two silicon carbide diodes to ground and a 5Z3 on the positive leg. This solution has several practical advantages and works great. Would it be possible to add it? Many thanks.

Hi Duncan, My PC has 32GB and I get OOM messages when I try to simulate over 80s delay. Additionally, is updating the screen with calculation status slowing the final data? Seems slightly lethargic given the hardware? -- - Ian

MacOS Error 2
Good morning. Running MacOS 12.1 Monterey. When I opened psud this morning, I got the following error popups. Clicked "OK" in both cases to ignore, but psud does not open. Downloaded build 77, but got the exact same error messages . . . Any ideas? Chris

I haven't used this for a while and now find that I cannot open any of my saved .psu files. Looks like some permissions issue. Any suggestions? Thanks, 73 Jack KZ5A

PSUD possible issue on corner case power supply 6
PSUD gives me this result on a particular power supply (yes, the choke is underspecified on purpose). Playing with rectifier leak mitigates the problem somewhat, but it still looks unnatural. Is this a math problem or is my rectifier in actual danger of blowing up?

Problem downloading .psu example files 8
Hello Duncan. I installed the latest version on my new laptop and tried to download some of the examples from the download section of your site in the psud2 area, but I did not managed to do so. Could you please check the link or point where these .psu examples can be downloaded from? Perhaps from here? Thanks in advance, Konstantinos, SV1ONW

Locked Mac won't open because developer cannot be verified 10
Hi, I have a new Mac after years of PC only, and when I download the Mac version from the website I get a message saying: “psud2_build73” cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified. macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware." I looked back in the group and it seems like folks are not having this issue. Any suggestions? Thanks, Pete

Locked The true cost of converting a windows program for use on a Mac 2
Duncan, Thank you for the free software. I have used it for many years and appreciate the work that you have done. To Mac Users, I am running PSUD II version 2.2 Build 73 on my MacBookPro. When installing you have to allow an installation from outside the Apple store. I developed commercial applications for Android, Apple, Apple iOS and Windows computers. PSUD II is specifically written for the Windows OSes and requires the Win32 library (only available on a Mac running a windows virtual machine or emulator). The $99 cost for using the apple store is most likely not the issue. He would have to translate the program to a code language that is compatible with the Apple OS. This is not a trivial exercise and could take months to do. I know this because I have translated some of my windows programs to both Android and the Apple iOS. Programs that I use personally and do not want to waste time converting I run on my Mac using a Windows OS virtual machine. The workaround for MacOS is very straightforward. After trying to open PSUD for the first time, go to System Preferences>Security and Privacy>General tab. You will then have to "unlock" the pane by clicking the lock at the left lower corner and entering your password. I don't recall the exact sequence, but you should be able to then allow MacOS to run PSUD. Out of curiosity, what would it cost to be an "identified developer"? CLC floating point error 4
Hey Duncan, Long time no speak. Glad to see PSUD is still alive and kicking. I was doing some tests on Build76 and am getting floating point errors when I use a choke greater than 18H in a CLC filter. See attachments, Jim vt52.com

right click PSUD2 OSX 6
Hello John, The damnedest thing ~ I tried it again and EUREKA ~ PSUD2 does indeed insert filters on a MacBook. I had no idea of the existence of that pop-up. My MacBook was bought 'refurbished' and I have some issues with it (e.g. Maps are blank every other day) so perhaps it's a case of a worker blaming her tools... I've only been using Macs since the early 1990s (and amateur programming, in Fortran and Basic, long before that ~ never something called machine code or ugghh MS DOS though ~ so I was certainly not up to speed with two-fingered tapping and I believe I'm correct in asserting that there is nothing in the (IMHO rather sparse) PSUD2 'documentation' about having to do the two-fingered shuffle to insert filters - on any operating system.) For that previously missing piece of information I have to thank you very much. I can now play the theoretical game 'do not blow up the rectifier' to my heart's content. However, this has thrown up another nasty for this naive Mac user... .PSU files ~ I can save them but cannot view them. Acrobat Reader immediately throws in the towel (corrupt attachment / not supported type blah;) whilst I could use screenshot to save them it's yet another mystery. Finally, when I do the calculations for the HEXFREDs I propose to use, I might be in position to start building an amplifier. I've only been collecting expensive parts for a decade or more. Once again, John, please allow me to say that your advice has been priceless. Siobhan Sent with ProtonMail secure email.

PSUD News 9
Hi, Thought I would string a few words together about what's happening right now and what people can expect in the future from PSUD. PSUD3 is still very much on the go, with a number of key features being implemented: CODE COMPLETED Rectifier database built into the software Rectifier curve fit to make your own from datasheets (Solver) Totally rewritten calculation engine with much better accuracy IN DEVELOPMENT New "splitter" filter to allow your power feed to split into two or more threads, each with their own filtering and load Ability to mix rectifiers within a supply (e.g. bridge with 2 x vacuum tube rectifiers and 2 x solid state) Schottky rectifiers Lots of charting improvements Dozens more minor things Hope the update is useful. I have a day job and an impending house move so don't get as much time as I would like for this, however I do try and spend some time on it each week :) Finally, a couple of screen shots of the new rectifier database showing how data sheet information is used to create or validate a rectifier model. Regards, Duncan

Economy and Rationalism
Hello Thanks to the help received from people (as an ex chemist I have some experience but zero training in electronics) I have been able to resolve a number of very basic MacBook-related PSUD2 issues - the double tap on the track pad still initiates annoyance though and hopefully there may be a way to remove the need in PSUD3? As to PSU design... it's now a relatively easy task for me to "lay out a design" with nanovolts of variation at say 10 seconds after 9 second reporting delay ~ but in truth I find I have scant real innerstanding of what that really means. Moreover those nanovolts are achieved with what I assume are huge amounts of inductance (20/40H) and large, expensive and normally non-stocked link capacitors of the sort that, if they are available, necessitate buying boxes of them from the US of A. However, when I try to model published PSU designs (e.g. Jac van de Walle/JAC Music, Menno van der Veen, Claus Byrith etc) not only do they achieve their results using, in comparison to my efforts, fewer, simpler arrangements in effect more elegant, "rational" and "economical." If that were not enough I would appreciate a steer on whether incorporating Llundahl - type double winding chokes ~ is anything "mystical." Yep there is much to learn. Thanks for the forum's continued understanding and guidance. Is a rational guide possible if not AI optimisation?!

Peak or RMS ??? 3
i downloaded Spice LT not too long ago, and i noticed i have to enter V * 1.414 to get my AC Voltage sources where they are supposed to be. i am designing to a 5U4GB on a 800ct secondary, and your program gives 455VDC; being that is over 400Vrms i could assume that is correct .. but the Duncan spice model literature for the 6SL7 and 6SN7 also give a maximum plate beyond the spec sheet figures. i can't afford to blow stuff up ( same reason i am doing the circuit prototype in the virtual realm first ) so, any real world verifications ???
