Welcome to the 开云体育 area for the Duncanamps PSU Designed (PSUD). This is a place to ask questions about the usage of the product, report issues with the software and find out about what's coming up in the future. The current offering is PSUD2 which allows simple linear power supplies to be modelled using a single phase transformer paradigm. The software doesn't cater for regulators, switched mode or anything like that - please check out the excellent LTSpice if you wish to dabble in more advanced power supply modelling. PSUD(2) has been around for 21 years now and that's a long time in the software world. As of June 2020 there is a PSUD3 in the works, it will still have the same simple "world view" of PSUD2 so it's not intended to do much new, just do it better. Some of the key things in the plan for PSUD3: More accurate simulator Vector graphics to take advantage of higher screen resolutions of today XML file format for power supplies which can store chart selections, colours, etc. Rectifier modeller Monte-Carlo simulations Mathematical functions Aggregation functions Windows / Linux / MacOS 64 bit application There isn't an ETA for PSUD3, I've been diverted writing some of the technology to support it and it's not my day job but it will show up one day :) Regards, Duncan

UI suggestions
1. PLEASE follow the current / last doc path for File -> Save As. Navigating a directory tree for each revision is silly. 2. PLEASE make the app open in the same location as when closed. Opening in the of the virtual space with multiple monitors is even sillier. Thanks for a G R E A T app!

Transformer current high with full-wave

Someone posted on Diyaudio about this, but I'm seeing the same thing - with a typical full wave rectifier circuit I'm seeing higher RMS current in the transformer than I think I should be. With a 150mA load, I see 220mA RMS current in D1, and 312mA in T1.

Otherwise this old Chemistry kid with a very old A level Physics experience and a new soldering station will need to copy established designs - e.g. Dr Jac van Der Walle’s ~ or see expensive things go up in frightening smoke - which is I suppose entirely the reason why such guidance isn’t provided for novices such as myself? Rectifier parameter question

Hi and thanks. My unfamiliarity with my new MacBook has been overcome with your assistance. PSUD2 (build 75) runs. Hurray! However, I cannot yet achieve usable results. Mathematics is not my issue _ I have for example calculated the Vlaws and Vfacs for several non-listed diodes (but not confident to upload them to the data base.) I can still exceed rectifier max voltages! Partly (maybe) because the programme as downloaded appears to allow only one rectifier block at a time e.g. i do not know how to simulate a CLC filter let alone display chained sections as shown elsewhere on the net.
I'd have several 'rookie' questions to ask to make any further progress - but how much are you up for tutoring cats in the use of your programme?

BTW do you have a pay-channel for your time and expertise and/or do you know of anyone who does the sort of design for monobloc PSU given a bunch of in /out parameters (I may have said i have bought quite a lot of very expensive components over the years... transformer, ASC caps 10 and 50?F/1200V and the orginal design (Mr Walton Mk2) used the now truly discontinued Plitron 20H/400mA (!) and 10H/150mA for SE 8W 300B/6SN7. Swinging chokes

Hello Duncan (and everyone else), great tool this PSUD2 - I have been using it for years. Thanks for making it free! I have a query about swinging chokes. One of the webpages (I think its home) you say: "Filter configurations: Simple C filter, C/R/C, C/L/C and LC (swinging choke)." Then in the Help pages, under "Program Limitations" - "Inductance" - it says: "The value of the inductor used in choke power supplies does not vary with DC current, all simulations use a static value. In a real world scenario, the value of the inductor would decrease as the current is increased." I can't find any way of making a choke "swinging" - so I presume this is a feature not yet available - but your intention is to add it at some point? thanks Richard

Rectifier not found in TXMLRectList::RectObject()

I just downloaded and installed this build 75 and on startup I get an error:
Rectifier not found in TXMLRectList::RectObject().
Press OK to ignore and risk data corruption.
Press Abort to kill the program.
Pressing either kills the program.
The old v2.0.2 build 41 works ok on the same pc, and the build 75 has installed to a different folder

build 75 slow on Mac Pro

Hi, It seems like the UI of build 75 is much slower and more laggy on macOS 11 than build 73. I upgraded to 75 to get dark mode support but moving the mouse over the different filter sections is laggy by about 400ms or so. I am on a very fast Mac Pro 2019. Waldo

A revised Mac version has been released to address a user interface performance issue when operating Dark mode. This should now operate correctly, along with better handling of changes in theme. I have a basic PSU design for my tube amp that I am trying to simulate, however since I have multiple B+ rails I am struggling to add multiple (different) load resistors in the right spots so I can get my main B+ rail to work out but the secondary B+ rail is way off from my expectations probably due to the missing load resistor (I can only add one in this app). Any pointers? I am trying to measure Bpl and Bsl in my diagram below.

reading the GZ37 datasheet, the PIV with capacitive input is 1600volt, while with inductive input 1850volt, is it possible to modify the model of the GZ37 to consider this difference?

Messages / Emails from the PSUD group
Hi, Message posts on this group are infrequent, however when we do have some messages going out there are a flurry of unsubscribes. Emails are not always welcome, and these groups default to sending an email for every message that comes in. If that is tiresome, or unwelcome you can reduce it or switch off altogether and still stay a member of the group to read the messages when you wish. Your subscription can be managed at: /g/duncanampspsud/editsub The choices are fairly self-explanatory. The default is "Individual Messages" which will generate an email to you for each message and each reply - this is too much for some people, I know. You can select one of the digest options which packages up a dozen messages and puts them in one email, or a daily digest that gives the whole narrative for the previous day in one email. There's "Special Notices Only" which will only ever be used if there is an upgrade to a new production release of the software. And finally, "No Email" which switches all the email notifications off. You can still log into the group and see the messages, and also post messages Hopefully that information is useful and will allow you to get the right balance of updates from the group. Multi-Screen Bug

Hello, I do wish the application either always started on the primary screen or on the last close screen. It's most annoying to have it open in the middle of the desktop surface with multiple monitors, i.e. split between monitor 0 and monitor 1. It's probably ok for 1 or 3 monitors, but not 2 or 4 - Ian

I recently got a Macbook pro and downloaded the mac version of PSUD2. Only having a couple of issues I wanted to run by the group. 1. toolbar above the design area stays hidden until you move your cursor up to the top of the screen then it appears as long as you keep it there. Maybe this is just an Apple issue but wanted to check with you as well. 2. When I enter the transformer primary voltage of 120, it enters fine but when hitting the OK at the bottom of the block and reopen, it keeps changing back to the 240 volts. I've tried removing the program and reinstalling but still does the same thing every time. Thanks!
