Second English voice not present
Hi all,
I have a New Generation Victor Reader Stream. Section 3.12 of the user guide says that with English versions of the Stream, two English language Text-to-speech voices are included. For non-English versions, one English and one local language voice is included. For some reason I have one English and one Dutch voice on my Stream, even though it was shipped to e by Humanware UK. I'm not quite bothered enough to ship the device to Humanware, but does anyone know of a way I can get a second English voice on my Stream in lieu of the Dutch one, perhaps by some sort of firmware reinstallation? Cheers, and a happy New Year. Ed |
Re: continued problems with my Victor Stream
Very sorry to hear of these problems Paul and the repair that, it would seem, hasn't worked out as it should have done.

I too have to report problems with the Trek and charging.? I am almost sure it is to do with the micro USBsocket as the charging is intermittant and is not making a pro0pper connection with the USB charger.? This at a time I can ill-aford the expense of getting it repaired, not to mention doing without it for a while to come back to me. I am increasingly dis-satisfied with the Trek and its performance and, as I've remarked so often, Humanware seems to care very little if at all for keeping it updated and improved.? We never have had the FM radio facility which seems to have been quietly forgotten about. So, when money allows I shall be looking at alternatives to accessing internet radio and podcasts, but none of the accessible specialist devices seems a natural competitor to the Stream and Trek. At least I have a spare VR Stream I can use while the Trek is away getting its expensive repair.? So even I may be pushed, screaming and kicking, into the Smart phone world. Ray. Well, on Friday, I was listneing to the radio via the stream when the battery ran out, as i'd forgot to check the battery status, so charged it up, whilst recording another radio programme. I didn't use it until the Saturday night which is when I noticed the problem. I have today, put the stream on charge in the hope that maybe if the battery was dead, that this mnight sort out the issue but sadly, it hasn't. So, I think a call to Humanware tomorrow might be needed. Thanks Paul. -----Original Message-----

Back in July 2017, I purchaesd the new version of the Victor Stream, as I was made aware of the fact that I could get radio stations on it, via the internet. For reasons which I won't bore you with, I didn't used the stream much until early 2020, when I startted to add favourite stations and during lockdown, i've used the Stream quite a lot and often record things for listneing to at a later time. In late September, I was recording a show and when I went to play it back a bit later ,I noticed that there was something wrong with my Stream, because every time I switched it on, all I got after the beep was the Welcome To Victor Stream message, and then the unit jusst switched itself off. A call to Humanware, resulted in my spending over an hour, trying to sort out the issue with the Stream. AS a result of this, I had to send it back and within a fortnight, I got my Stream back but sadly, non of my recordings survivved, as the internal board had developed a fault and needed replaceing, at a cost of ?201. On friday I was using the Stream as usual and evvreying seemd OK. Yesterday evening, when I went to turn it on, all i got was the beep and then the word "welcom" before it switched itself off. I tried switching it on on a number of occasions and even whilst plugged into the mains but stil no joy. To say i'm annoyed about this is something of an understatement and am feeling very let down by the fat that i've paid out ?201 for a repair which hasn't even lasted two months. So, could someone please tell me if there is anything I can try to do to see if I can restore my Stream back to it's former glorry, before I have to contact Humanware about this issue. I am somewhat baffled by this and wonder if anyone else had had similar issues with their Streams, or maybe their Treks. I do have a Victor Trek ,so at least I can use this for listening to and recording any shows I am likely to miss. I have no desire to shell out another ?201 for another repair job which is only going to last around two months. Any help on the above would be very much appreciated. Just one more question then Clive, Have you managed to find a full up-to-date manual on-line?? I for one do not find the Humanware website at all easy to navigate. Thanks again. Ray. On 24/11/2020 10:58 pm, Clive Pallett wrote:

Consolidating your recorded notes means they are re-sorted after some have been deleted. For example, say you have 4 notes recorded, you delete 1 and 3, so when you cycle through the list you hear 2 and 4. Now, press the 3 key until you hear "consolidate note" and you now have them re-sorted as 1 and 2. They will be separate files, not one big one. Hope this helps. Best wishes and stay safe! To see your audio recordings that you made on your SD card, you can also directly put the card in an SD card Reader you can connect to your PC. The internal memory stores content downloaded through the Online features I think. Claire On 24 Nov 2020, at 13:17, Rea Lists <reaslists@...> wrote:

It does allow me to get at the audio recordings I have made on the Trek and that way I can save them to my PC. Saving recorded notes on Trek
Hi List.
I seem to be having a bad day as, amongst other things, I asumed I can save audio recordings made via the Trek's audio note facility, to the SD card in the Trek.? On pressing the number 3 key I get Delete and "consolidate".? that last one suggests to me the various recordings would be consolidated into one recording. I want to save the recordings, not have them joined into one file. So, have I got this wrong?? I would dearly like to save some recordings made via the internal mic to the SD card, but it would appear this is not possible. So, any suggestions? Thanks. Ray. |
