hi folks at the minute I received talking books from the RNIB on USP Drive. Can anybody recommend a machine to play these on as my sonnet is now broken? It will not charge. Many thanks.

Audio book reading coming to the Humanware Stella Trek 2
It would seem that the Humanware Stella Trek will get an update to enable reading of audio books. I don't know anything of the details on this update which I understand will be an update to the existing Stella Trek software. I do not know if this will exstend beyond listening to books. Given the Stella Trek has fewer buttons than the VR3 I don't know how navigation of books and possibly other audio would be handled. This info was revealed in the Double Tap podcast which is also available on YouTube about 53 minutes into the following episode of their cSun coverage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIqxVBarPvM I am not a great fan of the Double Tap podcasts and seeing Steven Scott waring dark glasses does not add to the attraction for me at least. VR3 and possible useful warning message about memory getting full?
To explain the subject line, I did as I said earlier, get my UK playlist working again on the VR3. Initially it would not work, seemingly, but this was down I think to me having subscribed to and kept too many podcasts. So, in short, I think the radio player was not working through lack of internal memory. While it might be nice to have the VR3 save to an SD card by default I can see this could throw up other problems. I suggest that a message alerting us to when memory gets to, say, 80 per cent full, might be a good idea. What do others think? Ray.

Most BBC radio stations to become unavailable for international users
This was seen on the UK radio list recently and I wonder what impact, if any, this might have on the provision of a UK playlist for the VR3. I have recently re-activated my UK playlist on my Stream 3 and would hate to lose it. I may comment further on getting the UK playlist back again, but here is the article from Radio Today. Ray. Most BBC radio stations to become unavailable for international users Radio Today By Roy Martin 25 February 2025 A new BBC audio website and app will replace BBC Sounds for users outside the UK later this year. This means only two radio stations will only be available via BBC.com, the commercial arm of the corporation, along with podcasts. Only BBC World Service and BBC Radio 4 will be available to users abroad, as revealed by James Cridland earlier this month. No other national or local radio stations will officially be available due to rights reasons. The BBC issued a press release on the move today, saying: “Through this new user experience, listeners can explore deeper context and analysis on select topics, gaining a richer understanding of the issues that matter most—all without leaving the platform. “As part of this launch, the BBC will also be making BBC Sounds available exclusively to UK audiences and ending access to the service for international users beginning Spring 2025. UK users who go on holiday (outside the UK) for a short period of time will still be able to use the BBC Sounds app abroad.” BBC Studios is responsible for the monetization of digital news and factual products including BBC.com, the BBC app, BBC Select and BBC Podcast Premium, whose profits help continue to fund the BBC’s journalism and reporting. https://radiotoday.co.uk/2025/02/most-bbc-radio-stations-to-become-unavailable-for-international-users/

VR Stream crackling issues 4
Hi Maybe early days, have just received a Victor Stream 3 which I got with some early birthday money. I am getting used to the changes both in hardware and software. However, I am getting a lot of crackling when turning the device on, connecting to WiFi or deleting files, turning the device off... Have others encountered this as well? Seems strange for a new device. I have tried different headphones and updated to the latest software. Thanks Claire

BBC HLS streams update 14
I had not used my Victor Reader 3 for a while to listen to BBC radio, but oh dear, when I went to the playlist I imported a year or more back I found none of them would play. this I am guessing is not news to some here, but I only just discovered this. So another quick search brought up these updated streams which seem to have been uploaded a month or so back. Most of the streams seem to work, but so far two that do not are Radio 5 Live and BBC WM. the last is my local radio station which I do not listen to much, and can get on other devices as it happens. Direct links to these playlists are: https://garfnet.org.uk/download/radio/bbc-radio.m3u https://garfnet.org.uk/download/radio/bbc-radio.txt Found at, https://garfnet.org.uk/cms/tables/radio-frequencies/internet-radio-player/bbc-national-and-local-radio-hls-streams/ All this said, most of my listening now is via smart speakers which play everything I want to listen to, including BBC local radio in other areas, so the VR3 is les important to me now for radio listening than it used to be. If anyone has a full list of BBC radio streams that plays all the BBC radio streams then please post links here. As the guy on the above linked-to website says, the Beeb seems to change these URLs more often than most folks change their under pants. Ray.

This helps for some. You can after repair them on the iPhone.”. I haven’t tried to do this as I’m not sure how to reset the Air pods in the Case. Hope the above is useful. Best wishes Henry

Another reason I don't like TuneIn radio
Like almost everyone I am no fan of TuneIn down to the adverts, although I think you can silence them by paying for the service. Another reason for disliking TuneIn is, seemingly, you cannot record radio when you do listen via TuneIn. I imagine this might be due to a restriction imposed by TuneIN although I have not read up on this or listened to any podcasts or tutorials that might touch on this. Given I can record stations found via OoTune or imported M3U or pls files then this is just one more reason I have a downer on TuneIn. so I must re-aquaint myself with creating my own .m3u files. (For those who use Alexa, their is a skill for Angel Radio Portsmouth which is very similar to Angel Radio Isle of White. From here on you can stop reading if you don't like older music and old radio programmes. I encountered this restriction when I used TuneIn to search for Angel Radio Isle of White which is now on the internet again. For anyone who hasn't listend to it, it plays music from the 1920s up to around 1970, so you have to be around state pension age or older to really appreciate much of its output, and if yo are not put off by that, then some of the presenters are not the smoothy slick sort of guys you find on commercial radio and BBC. I like it and often happen on things I don't find anywhere else. Ray.

Hi everyone, Good news! Version 1.4 of the Stream 3 is now LIVE! You can reboot your device or manually go check for update to download and install this update. Our website will be updated with the new links sometime today. I think you'll be happy with this one! Here are the release notes. New features: - Acapela voice update: we've upgraded from 12.0 to 12.1. A new Canadian voice (Melanie) is available in both French (Mélanie) and English (Melany). The new version fixes some stuttering issues. - Bluetooth profiles support has been greatly extended to support a broader range of devices, including some hearing aids. This is ongoing work, but if you have a device that previously didn't connect, try it again! Other improvements will be made in the next versions. - Notes categories are here! You can now create categories for notes. By default, your current notes are in the GENERIC category. You can create any number of categories you want and move them. - Notes can now be created in the internal memory of the Stream if you don't have an SD card. You can choose the default recording storage in the settings. - Internet radio bookshelf: the WhereAmI (5 key) features has been reimplemented to be like on the Stream 2. Press it once for the currently playing information, and a second time for technical information (bitrate, etc). - Installing a new voice will now give a percentage for progression - Size of books supported in Bookshare, and XML/HTML content has been increased slightly - we will implement something in 1.5 to fix this completely - TuneIn will now properly remember your place in podcasts and books if you are logged in (not available with anonymous accounts, but works with free and premium accounts) - Added an option for key beeps. You can now turn all the beeps off, all on, or have the play beep only. - Added back the functionality to skip back or ahead 10 items while holding 4 and 6 - You can now enter a custom value for sleep timers, from 0 to 99 minutes - Going into suspend mode will disable any active sleep timers Bugfixes: - Improved handling of "new" Podcast episodes - Loop works once again in all bookshelves - WhereAmI and GoTo time in NLS books has been fixed - Volume for the power on beep has been lowered - Info key on custom playlists now works properly - The beeps on shutdown should now more consistently play - Internet Radio playlist selection will use the package's locale instead of defaulting to International - The Fast Forward and Rewind keys will now work in TuneIn podcasts (Fast Forward is 30 seconds, Rewind is 10 seconds) - Navigation from end of book in a DAISY book now fixed - Podcasts feeds that were encoded in ASCII would crash the podcast application, now fixed. - Fixed an issue where you couldn't recreate a highlight bookmark after deleting it - English North America has been renamed to English United States in the list of languages for TTS - Improved WhereAmI in OtherBooks - Fixed GoTo time not behaving properly in the podcast, OtherBooks and Audible bookshelves - Fixed podcast crash after importing - Fixed podcast crash when time jumping 30 seconds - Fixed an issue where a large number of music files could cause the ALL MUSIC playlist to disappear - Fixed an issue where audio would stop playing when pausing the recording of the Internet radio - Fixed a bug in Internet radio (ooTunes and TuneIn) where the speed would go faster when locking the keypad - (FRANCE ONLY) Fixed a bug with EOLE where certain books wouldn't appear on the bookshelf I hope you all enjoy!
