Re: Stream 3 version 1.4 is now LIVE!

Hi Matthew

?

Yes, I would agree with Claire, this looks like a great up-date, lots of fixes. The only thing I find a bit annoying, when you press info or where am I in $vrotherbooks, it lags a bit, may be half a minute before it starts speaking. I am using mostly 256 gb sd cards. Thanks for all your hard work. ?

?

Regards

Adrien

?

Hi everyone,

?

Good news! Version 1.4 of the Stream 3 is now LIVE!

?

You can reboot your device or manually go check for update to download and install this update. Our website will be updated with the new links sometime today.

?

I think you'll be happy with this one!

?

Here are the release notes.

?

New features:

- Acapela voice update: we've upgraded from 12.0 to 12.1. A new Canadian voice (Melanie) is available in both French (Mélanie) and English (Melany). The new version fixes some stuttering issues.
- Bluetooth profiles support has been greatly extended to support a broader range of devices, including some hearing aids. This is ongoing work, but if you have a device that previously didn't connect, try it again! Other improvements will be made in the next versions.
- Notes categories are here! You can now create categories for notes. By default, your current notes are in the GENERIC category. You can create any number of categories you want and move them.
- Notes can now be created in the internal memory of the Stream if you don't have an SD card. You can choose the default recording storage in the settings.
- Internet radio bookshelf: the WhereAmI (5 key) features has been reimplemented to be like on the Stream 2. Press it once for the currently playing information, and a second time for technical information (bitrate, etc).
- Installing a new voice will now give a percentage for progression
- Size of books supported in Bookshare, and XML/HTML content has been increased slightly - we will implement something in 1.5 to fix this completely
- TuneIn will now properly remember your place in podcasts and books if you are logged in (not available with anonymous accounts, but works with free and premium accounts)
- Added an option for key beeps. You can now turn all the beeps off, all on, or have the play beep only.
- Added back the functionality to skip back or ahead 10 items while holding 4 and 6
- You can now enter a custom value for sleep timers, from 0 to 99 minutes
- Going into suspend mode will disable any active sleep timers

Bugfixes:

- Improved handling of "new" Podcast episodes
- Loop works once again in all bookshelves
- WhereAmI and GoTo time in NLS books has been fixed
- Volume for the power on beep has been lowered
- Info key on custom playlists now works properly
- The beeps on shutdown should now more consistently play
- Internet Radio playlist selection will use the package's locale instead of defaulting to International
- The Fast Forward and Rewind keys will now work in TuneIn podcasts (Fast Forward is 30 seconds, Rewind is 10 seconds)
- Navigation from end of book in a DAISY book now fixed
- Podcasts feeds that were encoded in ASCII would crash the podcast application, now fixed.
- Fixed an issue where you couldn't recreate a highlight bookmark after deleting it
- English North America has been renamed to English United States in the list of languages for TTS
- Improved WhereAmI in OtherBooks
- Fixed GoTo time not behaving properly in the podcast, OtherBooks and Audible bookshelves
- Fixed podcast crash after importing
- Fixed podcast crash when time jumping 30 seconds
- Fixed an issue where a large number of music files could cause the ALL MUSIC playlist to disappear
- Fixed an issue where audio would stop playing when pausing the recording of the Internet radio
- Fixed a bug in Internet radio (ooTunes and TuneIn) where the speed would go faster when locking the keypad
- (FRANCE ONLY) Fixed a bug with EOLE where certain books wouldn't appear on the bookshelf

?

I hope you all enjoy!

Sorry folks, but only just caught up with earlier posts here.

As to Claire's question, I might add that Humanware could talk to Calibre Audio about making their online books available on the stream.? While RNIB seems to be dragging its feet getting this going, I think Calibre might just be more willing to see this sort of service made available on the Stream.? I note that the Synapptic Android software enables downloading or streaming of Calibre books, so clearly this could be a possibility for the Stream in the future.

Re: using the catch up feature on LBC radio

Hi Ray
I have now managed to locate the episode and will listen to the programme tomorrow.
I think the BBC do a good job with its news content and documentaries and like you I find the commercials extremely irritating and a good excuse to visit the bathroom or make a cup of tea ?

Best wishes
Henry

Hi Henry, I think I did a search for James O'Brien, Lbc catchup and got to the page that way, although I cannot quite remember precisely how I did it.

the page did not look to complicated but maybe it helps a bit I have a little sight these days. I would have thought the play button would be accessible.

I used to subscribe to a podcast of James O'Brien's podcasts which featured interviews he does.

I do not listen to LBC or much commercial radio at the moment, though I
do catch up with some Boom Radio catchup programmes, some of which I do
manage to download.

Much of commercial radio isn't much to my liking though with the
hammering the Beeb has taken down to idoelogical corectness of the Right
means many of us will be driven to commercial offerins more and more,
which is no doubt the idea!

I have not worked out what the attraction of TuneIn radio is as I for
one like still to escape obtrusive and repetative advertizing when I can
as I don't see the attraction of being brainwashed through repetition
into buying products I don't much want anyway! Rant over!

I've had a look at the LBC site and got as far as this page:

which is the link to the James O'brien programme for Yesterday. Clicking on that I get an invite to sign up for an account, so it would seem you have to do that to use catchup.

There is a reference to a podcast, so you may possibly get the programme that way if its available as a podcast.

Re: Using TuneIn

Hi David

Thanks.

To be honest, I was just seeing if I could pair TuneIn. I am quite happy using Ootunes, as you don't get all those annoying commercials at the beginning. I hate them as I like to trawl through stations to see what they are playing, like going along a dial on a radio.

Pele

Re: Using TuneIn

Hi Pele
It is quite a while since I did this but remember it was not at all
intuitive.
You could try just typing in the code and pressing enter. That maybe it.
If nobody else can remember how to do it, I could try posting a question on
the VR List if you are not already a member.
Purely personally whilst I was curious about Tunein I did not myself find
any content that it was easier and more straightforward to access using the
main VR Podcast app. Unfortunately, much of the most interesting content,
like Sports channels, seems geographically restricted to the USA. Also, on
the main Podcast app you can fast forward through ads which I could not do
on Tunein. Ditto for Radio, apart from ad skipping. What was of some
interest was the recommendations on Tunein which I then found on the main
Podcast app.
I would be interested if anybody found Tunein only content that was of
interest here in the UK.

Subject: [dap-uk] Using TuneIn

Hi Everyone

I am trying without success to pair my tuneIn free account with my Victor
REader Stream 3.

I have selected "Add Account" from the TuneIn menu and received a pairing
code.

Following instructions I have gone to tunein.com/pair on my phone and on my
PC but cannot see where to type in the code.

Can anyone advie me, please?

Thanks

There have been a beta program running for weeks/months now so I think we can be optimistic of improvements. I am forbidden to refer to anything specific though.
Unfortunately, I was not able to join actively the beta program because of domestic health etc. issues, including my retired Guide Dog having to be put to sleep today.

I, for one, would be interested in a step by step in adding the BBC Event streams to the Victor 3, I have them on Speech Radio on the iPhone but it is a real hassle navigating them all with swipes.

Hello Everyone

I have just got a Victor Reader Stream 3 and really like it. Of course, there are a few things that are not as good as the VR2 and I wonder if anyone knows of any plans to fix them:

1. When pressing the WhereAmI buttn, the VR2 used to give a percentage of the book being read. This no longer happens.

2. The VR3 does not display the time properly. For example, for 11:30 AM it says 11 Hours 30 Minutes Ahem. Are there any plans to correct this?

If anyone is interested, the VR3 will play the BBC Event Streams used for broadcasting sport.

Re: Victor Reader Stream 3

Dear Pele,

Re Beta testing - I think they have enough testers at the moment, though I volunteered only to let them down.
Matthew from Humanware organises the testing and I believe he is on this list but on holiday at the moment.

Yes, it would be great if you could send the playlist for event streams, I am not sure that this list can take attachments though so you might have to DropBox it or something.

Hi David

I am sorry to hear about your bad health and your dog.

Someone on another list sent me the BBC Event streams and I compiled a playlist which I imported to the Victor Reader Stream 3. I can send it to you if you are interested.

Do you know if anyone can take part in beta testing?

Pele
