Re: Victor Reader Stream 3
Hi David
I am sorry to hear about your poor health and your dog. Someone on another list sent me the BBC Event Streams and I compiled a playlist and imported it to the VR3. I can send you the playlist if you are interested. Do you know if anyone can take part in beta testing? I think it could be quite interesting. Pele |

There have been a beta program running for weeks/months now so I think we can be optimistic of improvements. I am forbidden to refer to anything specific though. Unfortunately, I was not able to join actively the beta program because of domestic health etc. issues, including my retired Guide Dog having to be put to sleep today. I, for one, would be interested in a step by step in adding the BBC Event streams to the Victor 3, I have them on Speech Radio on the iPhone but it is a real hassle navigating them all with swipes. Of course, there are a few things that are not as good as the VR2 and I wonder if anyone knows of any plans to fix them: 1. When pressing the WhereAmI buttn, the VR2 used to give a percentage of the book being read. This no longer happens. 2. The VR3 does not display the time properly. For example, for 11:30 AM it says 11 Hours 30 Minutes Ahem. Are there any plans to correct this? If anyone is interested, the VR3 will play the BBC Event Streams used for broadcasting sport. Hi Pele.? Pleasantly surprised you like the VR3 in spite of the problems you mention.

I think the guy from Humanware who appears on this list ocasionally is going to be the one to answer your queries.? I find the time announcement anoying too.The where am I glitch is one that should be addressed too. I shamefully admit to not having downloaded any RNIB books for some time which of course would have to be done via my computer, but I do not think I havew the right URL for the download service so if anyone can send it here then that would be helpful as I find RNIB customer service a bit hit and miss. Being able to download books via the VR Stream is long overdue but that's not Humanware's fault.? I wish RNIB would get its act together on this one as I know its going to need co-operation from them for it to happen. Final brief comment on the VR3.? Its small and fits well in the hand, if you do not cover up the speaker.? I find the keys a bit squidgy to press and I do not care much for the reorganisaiton of the menu system, but all said I get on with the VR3 well enough. Ocasionally the BBC streams are prone to a little interuption but good to know the event streams do stil work.? Have the URLs changed for these? Just end by commenting I wish more podcasts had chapters alla departed Living Blindfully. Ray. On 11/10/2024 12:00 pm, Pele West via groups.io wrote:

cases for vr stream 3
开云体育Hi ? I had an email from humanware uk, I asked them to notify me but they now sell a case for the vr stream 3, has anyone purchased one and if so, what are they like? I will be getting one and as they aren’t as expensive as the executive products from the states, they are ?50 each. I am not sure if they are only available over here so won’t post this on the other lists. ??? ? Regards Adrien |

Dear Clare I tried out the Sounds app on the SensePlayer just now. Apart from making me login again it worked OK. I was able to transfer between tabs and play a Music mix. I would suggest deleting the version you have and re-downloading ?from the app catalogue to see if you get? any better result. There may be apk packages out there in the wild? which also work. If you do get into using the app then the navigation keys like 1 to jump to the top and 7 to jump down a page are essential, otherwise? you spend unfeasible parts? of your life navigating through different elements to find the pause button for example. I think it is 7 to jump to the bottom to the media controls, if not try? using 9 and 3. ? David Griffith ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]>

Re: Kindle on SensePlayer
开云体育Hi David?
Thanks for your message.
I eventually found the Espeak file in the Apps folder?

Sent: Sunday, August 11, 2024 6:49:25 PM To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [dap-uk] Kindle on SensePlayer ?
I installed eSpeak from the list of supplied apps. Is it not there anymore? There was another free synth which I will check out later when I get back to my SensePlayer. My own experience with eSpeak is that installing it appeared necessary to unlock the capability of Dolphin easy Reader to then be able to download and use the supplied Nuance voices with that app. For some odd reason, for me at least, you could not download the Nuance voices until eSpeak was available. So actually, I installed eSpeak not to use it but to unlock the capability to download Easy Reader in-app voices. ? I forgot to mention that I did get access to a Kindle Book via installing Amazon Alexa on the SensePlayer and just getting Alexa to read my Kindle book. In practice though I still use my iPhone for Kindle, as it is much easier to change books etc. Amazon Alexa is one of those apps which keeps on complaining about needing access to the Google Play Store. You can still bust through the error messages to get some functionality, but it is a bit of a palaver. I think Hims needs to bite the bullet and negotiate some kind of access to the Google Play Store – I suspect that this will cost them some money to register the SensePlayer with Google, so they are likely to run scared of this. Perhaps some discussion with Google Access teams if they have not already done this? ? David Griffith ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]>
On Behalf Of claire amoroso ? Thanks David. I haven’t been able to find the espeak app in my list of apps which seems rather limited, how did you find it ? There is this new Assistive Reader option in the Kindle iOS app with built in text to speech so maybe it will work on the Sense player as well. Claire? From:
[email protected] <[email protected]> on behalf of David Griffith via groups.io <d.griffith@...> ? Someone? may have a later more positive update but on the Sight ??Sound Seminar on the SensePlayer last year Jenny from Hims reported that they had not been able to find a keyboard command to actually start TTS reading of the Kindle book. Having said that I have noticed several reports of the Kindle app working with Braille on the Braille Sense so perhaps there would be no harm in somebody trying this out. As you say the apps on the SensePlayer are definitely increasingly hit and miss. ?The various app developers seem to be making it harder for any app to operate without access to the Google Play Store, which is tripping up some of the ones I have installed. Until Hims crack that particular nut I suspect that app development will be inconsistent at best. ? David Griffith ? From:
