Re: D-RATS and AGWPE

Dan,
I'm not aware of anyone using the D-RATS repeater and AGWPE together, so I think you are in uncharted territory. One thing I did notice is the high numbered comm port. In the past, users have reported erratic behavior of D-RATS when the comm port number was large, and setting it to a lower number (below 5) improved stability. I don't know if that will address your issue, but it couldn't hurt. Please keep the group updated with your progress.
Thanks,
Patrick (N3TSZ)

D-RATS and AGWPE

I was able to do a D-RATS to D-RATS connection today using AGWPE as the radio port. Worked fairly well. Now, I am trying to add the AGWPE definition to the D-RATS repeater app. I have it set up in the repeater app exactly as I did in D-RATS initially. I have D-RATS set to connect to the repeater. AGWPE is listening on port 8000. D-RATS is listening on 9010.

With AGWPE defined this way the repeater app doesn't appear to start. D-RATS cannot connect to it. And, telnetting to it from a command prompt on port 9010 doesn't show it attempting a connection.

If I delete the AGWPE setup from the repeater app and restart everything D-RATS connects to the repeater app.

But, with AGWPE defined it will not connect.

Any ideas why? Has anyone done this?

I'm running the latest daily build of D-RATS.

Thanks!
Dan

Re: Turn Off Transmit Message on Radio

Congrats Don,

The low speed data is interleaved with the voice portion so, wherever the voice goes, the data will follow. REF015C is reserved for data transmissions so you could give that a try. Nobody hangs there, so you might want to make a sked with someone for an experiment.

Good luck and 73.

not have forward error correction as the voice segment does. If you are
hearing R2D2, (it sounds like Cousin Itt to me) you may not have a good
enough signal into the repeater for a reliable connection.

If your radio transmits when you press send, you have it set right.

If you are using a USB data cable, try going to the device manager and
changing the port number to 4 or lower if possible. I have also heard that
manually entering the com port number rather than selecting it from the

No, You have to do the "fix"...

Information Bulletin - Fixing the Windows 7 D-RATS 0.3.3b6 64-bit WL2K Error.

On 64-bit Windows 7 computers D-RATS 0.3.3b6 encounters an error
when sending E-mail addressed to WL2K. The error involves
the D-RATS lzhuf_1.exe file located in the D-RATS\libexec folder.
There is a fix.

Shut down D-RATS.

Download this file:
You will be given the option to RUN or SAVE the file. Click on SAVE.
Remember where you saved it to. On WIndows 7 machines it will be
saved to the DOWNLOADS folder.

Replace the file lzhuf_1.exe in the D-RATS\libexec folder with
the new file you just downloaded.

Done.

The fix procedure has been tested on a Windows 7
64-bit operating system running D-RATS 0.3.3b6
and does fix the problem. This fix procedure has
NOT BEEN TESTED by me on any other operating
systems or versions of D-RATS. Using this
procedure on other operating systems and versions
of D-RATS MAY BE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I've got a ratflector set up on PC on my LAN, and have been playing around trying to learn more about D-RATS. The setup is as follows. PC #1 runs D-RATS with either an RF connection to the ratflector over my 92AD or a network connection. PC#2 is running the D-RATS repeater app and D-RATS. It is connected via RF and/or network. PC#2 has a check by "Connected to Internet".

SMTP turned off on PC#1. SMTP is set up correctly on PC#2 and it is set to forward messages. I am 100% confident that the SMTP server settings are correct, and I can connect to the SMTP server from this PC. I've confirmed that. I have an Email Access rule in place for my email and call sign.

I can connect from PC#1 to PC#2 over the local network, and I can chat and send files. I have I can send an email from PC#1, telling it to Send Via PC#2. The message shows up in the D-RATS inbox on PC#2, and the message at the bottom of the screen says it is forwarding it. However, it never hits the internet, and it never clears from the outbox on PC#2.

I also tried creating and sending an outbound email from PC#2. It is never delivered and sits in the outbox until I delete it.

I ran Wireshark on PC#2 watching for packets going to my mail server, and I never see anything attempt to connect to that IP or port.

Strange thing is I had this working a couple of days ago. I know I did something to break it, but can't "un-break" it.

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this further? What causes D-RATS to attempt a connection to a SMTP server via the internet instead of trying to pass mail through the radio links?

With the help of folks in this group I figured this one out yesterday.??? In my case I'm running a ratflector (D-RATS client and repeater app), and I'm connecting to that ratflector from another PC.???? I used Email Access on the D-RATS instance I'm running on the ratflector to tell it who can send email out and what to do with email that comes in.

?

I created two entries in Email Access:

?

1) My call sign, Both, and blank

2) My call sign, Inbound, and the email address that I'm sending from/to on the other PC

?

Rule #1 allows my call sign to send email outbound through the ratflector.??? According to the documentation you should be able to put a '*' in the first field to allow all stations connecting to the ratflector to send mail out.? However, I wasn't able to do that.?? I can only send outbound if I have the sending station set up in a rule like #1.

?

Rule #2 tells the ratflector what to do with email that it receives.???? It is set up to check my mailbox automatically and download any email.? Rule 2 tells it that it should pass any mail addressed to xxxx@... over to call sign W4DTO via D-RATS.

Subject: [d-rats_group] Email access?

?

?

What is the purpose of entries in Preferences/Email access??

?

Do you have to list all stations that will send you an email if you have internet connectivity and SMTP/POP properly set?? I think not.

?

And if you are using an RF link, do you have to list all stations that will send you an email via RF? I am not sure?
