Amateur Question: duplicating IP-ID not working?
11
Hi, This might be a novice question when it comes to adding new IP-ID's that is duplicated from an existing one, but I was still have issues and not sure if I missed something. I am trying to completely mirror a Crestron App IP-ID to a new Crestron App IP-ID, as well as converting a DGE IP-ID to a new Crestron App IP-ID. I've utilized the following resources to no avail. - Setting up a project to use the Crestron App on an iPad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ7bJ4eDJhQ - https://help.crestron.com/simpl/Content/Symbol_Operations/Duplicate_Device_Programming.htm - https://help.crestron.com/cds/symbols/Cards/TPMC_V/Import_Smart_Graphics_Extenders_into_a_new_SIMPL_Windows_program.htm - /g/crestron/topic/duplicating_ui_programming/97522615 - /g/crestron/topic/multiple_touchpanels_same/85810775 Steps that I've taken: 1) I retrieved the current program from the Control System (CP4), which provided a .lpz file. I then extracted that to obtain the .archive file. Inside the .archive folder are the project files including .sgd_, .vtp/.vtz, .usp, etc. 2) I launched the .smw file within SIMPL Windows and was initially prompted the following: "A newer version of the control system [CP4] exists in the current Device Library..." Clicked "No" "** GUI Extender File association needs reconciliation...." Double-click to launch the GUI Extender Management. 3) A lot of files were pointed to a non-existent path that the previous programmer set. They opened up the .smw file with Notepad++ to remove the pathing so that it would search the .sgd files in the same folder as the .archive. 4) Some .sgd files were missing or only the .sgd_ was showing. I had assistance from Crestron Support in regards to this. They opened up the .smw file with Notepad++ to remove the pathing so that it would search the .sgd files in the same folder as the .archive. For the missing files, they recompiled the corresponding .vtp file. For the files with only a .sgd_, they copied it to another folder renamed it to .sgd and copied it back. Clicked "Select All" under the GUI Extender Management, "Sync", and "Commit Changes". 5) Went to Program > Edit Header and just updated the name. Then just saved the project as a new name, "Test". 6) Went to the Configure section, under CP4, Ethernet Devices, I added a new Crestron App as IP-ID 15. 7) Went back to the Project section, right-click and dragged the current Creston App that I'm trying to duplicate (Ex: IP-ID 0F) and over to IP-ID 15. 8) Clicked on Duplicate Device Programming (didn't replace anything). 9) Saved the project and compiled it to get a .lpz file (which should theoretically be a copy of the original, but now with IP-ID 15 added). Over on the CP4, the original program (Program 1) is called Main and I left this as is. (I was told there should be any issues leaving the original). I uploaded this newly created program as Program 7. Now I navigated back on the Crestron App on a iPad and added the same exact information as the original IP-ID, but changed the IP-ID from 0F to 15. > The iPad connects and I can see the UI, BUT the issue here is that it doesn't fully load up the current settings or show the correct values. Like on the IP-ID: 0F, I can see the volume levels and TV, but on the newly created IP-ID: 15 it doesn't show the volume levels or what's currently active. Shouldn't I see the same exact thing on IP-ID: 15 since it's just a copy/paste of IP-ID: 0F? I spoke with Crestron Support and they suspect that the .sgd file pointed to in the GUI Extender Management is an incorrect file. I've test duplicated two other touch panel's IP-ID that uses a different .sgd and also ran into the same issue. Which at this point I was stumped if I missed another step. I read up about the Logic, but was told that since I'm doing a complete 1 to 1 copy, I don't need to copy/paste the Logic or rename the headers. I've also asked Crestron Support if there's an issue with having the original program in Program 1 and have this modified program (just added one new IP-ID) to Program 7 and was told it

AMP 8150 - Heat?
9
I'm replacing a couple C2N-AMP-4x100s with an 8150. Never used one before. How much heat do they put off? I am in a position to reduce a 26 space rack to...well...one space...and I'm kind of giddy about it.

File /Ashly ne8800 v00-03.umc uploaded

#file-notice
The following items have been added to the Files area of the [email protected] group. /Ashly ne8800 v00-03.umc By: christian@... Description: Ashly NE8800. If you are reading this, you're having a bad day. And you've tried other Ashly model modules on this box, and you've had a worse day. Hopefully I've caught you before you started wondering if you should line code this, or do it in Simpl. Well, I made my choice, and had to F1 the concat symbol for the first time in 25 years. It is going great. I had this box on my desk for three days and couldn't get input volume control to work, nor input mute. Technically, this module "does" control input volume/mute, but only the input mixer that is hidden in the output mixer (?), which are a different set of inputs from the input mixer (?). Which is stupid, and I hate you Ashly. And I also hate you, AV consultant/designer person, for copy/pasting a design from 2005 into a system in 2025. Copy/paste this and send it to your dealer: This box is great when you are using hard pots for volume control. But it sucks for Crestron. Spoiler alert: The volume command also routes stuff. Same command. Why? I don't know. Don't want that? Go to hell. Want to just route something? Hard no. Want to change the volume without routing? Still no. Could I have made better decisions decades ago to prevent my involvement in this? Can't say. Anyway, this has drop down "input fader" select (Note that "input fader" is in quotes. You'll see.), and drop down output select. Same commands work RS232 and TCP/IP, but the port Ashly original gave me was the wrong one, and damnit I ain't looking up the right one right now. Ok, bye.

Shade Power Supplies and Crestron Fails
5
I suffer so you don't have to...:( So I've just lost the better part of a day *Learning* about crap that wasn't designed right (IMHO!) 1. Shade Power supplies - Ethernet master with 1-n Cresnet slave PSs With the SMW device definition, the Master CNET subSlot offers CNET IDs from 03-4F. These are for shades on downstream CNET slave PSs. Of course they couldn't just nest them under these power supplies, but that's another subject... The fact is that IDs 40-4F are not usable even though they are available in SMW... How would you know this??? Just read the firmware release notes from 2017 (4 versions back from the current FW, dated 2018)... 2. For the first time, I looked seriously at the 'Shade Group' feature. each shade has the ability to be associated with (6) group IDs (00h-FCh). You can set one analog and all the associated shades go to that level...Pretty Cool...or so I thought... Each Ethernet Power Supply has two subSlots, Master CNET for downstream devices and Local CNET for the devices controlled and powered directly on the (10) local phoenix connectors. Problem is that the shade groups only seem to be able to control the shades on the same slot. I.e. One shade group with a 01h can only control shades on the slot that the Shade Group module is associated with. Its essentially useless...again IMHO... Love to hear that someone found this to be better than I'm finding...But just wanted others to know...

Connect extron IPCP 550 to RMC-3
4
Howdy, In short, I would like to be able to have an extron IPCP Pro 550 and a Crestron RMC-3 communicate with each other bidirectionally, preferably through RS-232(otherwise, network communication with the RMC-3 or a CP3 is an option as well). I'm just needing to send some serial strings back and forth. Are there any simple alternatives to the Extron GCP unidirectional driver? Or are there any Simpl modules that might interact with the IPCP with RX and TX? I really want to be able to have feedback. Thanks

DM-NAX Network Switch
12
Has anyone gotten the DM-NAX to work with the Araknis Switches? I actually had it working a little at one point but currently when switching sources to zone and monitoring NAX web interface it say connection denied to the zone , then flashes again and says stream started. Some other zones just say connecting... Is there anything to make this work we have a few of these switches and they are only few months old trying not to get stuck with them.

Biamp X400 with AES67 connection to Crestron DM-NAX-AMP-X300
3
Has anyone been able to create a successful link from a Biamp X400 to the Crestron NAX Amplifier. I have setup the Biamp to be in AES67 mode. I can route any NVX-E20 or E30 to the Biamp with no issues. I just cannot get the mix output of the Biamp to go into the amp. I never see the Crestron Amp on the Dante controller, but I was able to search using the NAX amp and see the Biamp AES67 stream, but it will not join. Just keeps showing connecting..... It seems like there is some incompatibility setting that I am missing either on Biamp or the Crestron unit... When I try to switch the NAX amp over to Dante mode, it loses the Commissioning page and so there is no way to setup the multicast address.

Android Mobile Pro (Purple) Long shot...
9
Okay Mates, wondering if any of you have experienced this, and can help. (However, I'm certain I know the answer, and just don't want to accept the answer). Frankly I didn't even remember the Mobile Pro being available on the Android Platform. But one of my clients, has had it on his old Samsung 21, but when he upgraded to the new Samsung (24-25 Something) the app didn't move over. I know that on the Apple App Store, as long as they have Previously Purchased it, they can restore it from that Purchase, and I've done that a lot. On his new phone, in the Google Play Store we did find it purchased in 2/18/2018, but it doesn't have an install button, but somewhere on the page it says not compatible with this phone. The Client is finding it hard to believe that if it worked on the 21, why it won't work on his new one. In Short (Too Late), Does anyone know of a way to get the app, and side load it into an Android (as I know there is a setting that will allow installs not from the Play Store. Or any other helpful hints, things to try, or cleaver ways to tell the Client "Looks like your getting a new Crestron System" (Even though he's had this system for over a decade, loves it, and doesn't want it to change).

Shade Toggle/Single Button
3
Hi All, Just wanting to get others' input on this. I have a project where I have a single button on lighting keypads for toggling Crestron shades 'Open-Stop-Close-Stop'. I was going to build the logic myself, but Eric Lukhart kindly built and posted one in the files section (Thanks Eric!). See link below... In looking at the module, it is built specifically to control a single shade, based on real feedback that the Crestron shades nicely provide... I need the button to control groups of shades (2-5) at a time, which creates a possible issue when individual shades are at different levels and/or have previously raised or lowered before the toggle button would try to control the group. I have some ideas, but thought i'd reach out to the group to see if others have done this to see what they've learned... TIA! TV/Projector IP control across VLANs
2
Hi All, We're re-designing our IP standards and just looking for others' experience with controlling projectors and TVs across VLANs. EX: Our proc would be at 10.7.101.11 TV/Proj would be at 10.7.102.xxx Of course we have our network config'd to pass this kind of traffic and Crestron and other secondary devices already work as is. Just looking for any issues with Sony primarily, and Samsung, LG, etc. TIA!

TBx Discovery with VLANs
6
Hi All, I'm actually remote thru a VPN to a site, where we're upgrading the IP scheme with multiple VLANs. TBx allows for remote discovery via VPNs using the remote search feature, using the local processor to search for Crestron devices. At the moment, It is only seeing devices on the primary VLAN (.101) and not the devices on the second VLAN (.102) though it can ping these devices and the network is set up to be able to cross these bounderies. Can someone confirm whether this discovery across VLANs is possible with TBx Discovery? TIA!

Topics in Home Automation - New Article in Residential Tech Today
Controlling a smart home is challenging. Speaking commands to voice assistants can be problematic when a TV is on, music is playing, or people are talking. Homeowners have to work through pages of apps, from different manufacturers, to find the one that controls the light bulb installed in the table lamp in the living room. House guests are totally lost trying to warm up the guest bedroom when they are too cold at night. Aqara is trying to help with this situation. Their new H2 line of smart light switches for the US comes in multiple configurations, with up to 4 buttons and three relays. To make integration simpler, these switches support multiple smart home protocols, including Thread for connection to smart home hubs supporting the Matter smart home standard. And, when used with an Aqara hub, the operation of the buttons can be separated from the operation of the relays. This allows these switches to be used as general purpose keypads for control of any function in a smart home. For example, buttons could be used to: Trigger lighting scenes. Control smart shades. Trigger an exit routine that sets back thermostats and turns off lights in the home to save energy. The routine could also set an integrated alarm system to away mode for added security. And more. My latest article looks into Aqara's Light Switch H2 US lineup in detail. You can find the article here: https://restechtoday.com/a-deep-dive-into-the-aqara-light-switch-h2-us/ For those interested in earlier articles that I've written, you can find those here: https://restechtoday.com/author/jaybasen/ For these interested in even earlier content that I wrote, you can find it all here though older content has formatting issues due to a transfer from blogspot to wordpress. https://topicsinhomeautomation.wordpress.com/ Thanks

Does such a thing exist?

Something of a minor irritant... HD-TXC-4KZ-101-1G DM-TX-4KZ-100-C-1G etc. Crestron has nice looking decora products but they stick ugly green Euroblock/Phoenix contacts on the front of the device, which stick out like a sore thumb and are unprotected if unused as part of a system. They used to make a version of the DMLite without the control ports. Does anyone manufacturer a black/white semi-flush cover plug for the IR/COM ports on HDBT transmitters? Any other recommended solutions to this annoyance? Architects already hate that they can't get stainless steel, can we make them hate us any less?
