AMP 8150 - Heat?

Edited

I'm replacing a couple C2N-AMP-4x100s with an 8150.? Never used one before.? How much heat do they put off?? I am in a position to reduce a 26 space rack to...well...one space...and I'm kind of giddy about it.

Looking at the specs, the 8150 provides double the amount of channels (8 vs. 4) with double the power per channel (150W vs. 75W) with just double the amount of heat dissipation (375BTU vs. 173.5BTU).

However, the 8150 heat dissipation in idle is relatively high with 250BTU (typical for Class D amps), but it won?t run much hotter in operation.

Heat dissipation in reality depends on the efficiency of the speakers you connect and the SPL you want to run them at.

?

Cheers,

Thorsten

I may be wrong (will check when I open SMW later) but I don’t think that this unit is a ‘matrix’ amp, like the 4x100’s…
that would be a major difference…

You are correct in that this is not a matrix amp.? It is strictly an 8 input amp and needs a matrix or DSP before hand.

As Pat said, and I've confirmed in SMW...
FYI, AudioControl makes their 'Director' M-series amps that are full matrix, DSP and power amp...

Not a matrix.? Can't believe I missed that.? Wasn't looking for it, and missed it.? Gotta stop doing this while drunk.? Hey ckangis, the AudioControl stuff looks perfect.? Send me an invoice for your services!??
?
Thorsten, I'm embarrassed that I never thought to look at the Heat Dissipation specs.? Honestly, I've never even THOUGHT about looking at them!? I don't do design so it never occurred to me.? I'll start paying more attention to them...
?
Narrator:? And he never looked at the heat dissipation specs again.

Oh, it was so obvious to me that it?s not a direct replacement for the C2N-AMP-4x100 that I didn?t even think about mentioning it.

If you want to go matrix, you could add a NAX-16-AIN to the AMP8150 (and add a 4ZSP if you need streaming). Or use the 8ZSA as a 8 zone/16 channel matrix amp. Lots of options.

Thorsten

FYI, the NAX-16-AIN has no "physical" outputs, and won't work (alone) with the AMP-8150.

Dang! That?s true.
I actually haven?t ever used the 8150 and was just assuming it was AES67 capable...

Sorry for confusion.

Thorsten
