Re: multiple touchpanels

If I understand what you're saying correctly even using new joins would not
solve your problem. You need to use different signal names through buffers
to drive the same end result so that other then the end control device the
logic is identical but with different signal names. For example
TP-A_VOL_UP, would drive a buffer enabled with a 1 and on the output put the
device volume, REC_VOL_UP. The feeback to the panel would be The
TP-A_VOL_UP. This will sperate out the logic so yo don't see different
zones driving logic on different panels. Also you can quickly make the new
logic for the other 2 panels by copying the folder and then using Search and
Replace which is the F9 key. Hope that kind of points you in the right
direction.

Never tried controlling one RS232 but I installed one yesterday, a

using the good Master IR file found here in the file section, never
had a problem with it before. Not sure whats going on. Maybe I'll
try it your way. Even if it is slow, it works. :)

Re: "Party Mode" - Serial/Analog signals slowing network

Probably the best method would be to only connect the touchpanel
Crosspoints when a source is selected from that particular
touchpanel - not when activated by Party Mode. That way, the
touchpanels would only receive the data if they were already on the
iPod page, or if they switched to the iPod page after Party Mode is
initiated.

However, that's not how I set mine up. If a zone is switched to a
source by *any* method (another TP, remote, Party Mode, etc.), any
touchpanel(s) connected to that zone will also be connected to the
source, and flip to the control page. I haven't encountered any
serious delays (or at least, no complaints), but if necessary, some
type of "Please Wait" message could be displayed while the Party Mode
is initiating.

The Broadcast symbol would be a good solution, but updating doesn't
seem to be as reliable. I also wish there was a version with joins
higher than 127, although that can be done with code, if necessary.
You're not *supposed* to have the same signals connected to the
touchpanel(s) and a Broadcast symbol at the same time, but I've never
actually tried it.

--- In Crestron@..., "nick.dietz" <nick@...> wrote:

It seems that @ jobs with lots of panels when put into a "party
mode"
either the cresnet or processor gets bogged down.

This is because each TP's Control Xpoint connects to the Equip
Xpoint
and the feedback signals have to get routed to each TP. Example
[Analog signal iPod1_Time gets sent to each panel : TP1_iPod1_Time,
TP2_iPod1_Time, TP3_iPod1_Time, etc. . .].

I am looking for a way to send 1 signal name to each touchpanel when
put into party mode, while using the same digital/analog/serial join
numbers to avoid creating separate subpages specifically for this
mode.

I was thinking along the lines of the Indirect Text Broadcast
symbol,
if only you could control which ID's to broadcast to?

The installers didn't connect pins 7 and 8. Although everything

I'll have them try it with extra pins Monday.

Thanks!

that the RS232 connection had to be a complete cross-over cable
arrangement with pins 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 all needing connection before it
would respond. I never had to had such pins all terminated in a
cable
pre the 4 series.

I also experienced a situation where a particular unit a 50XR5M had
an
issue where if a power on command was sent back to it within 2
seconds
of its response code - the unit would stop responding and a complete
reset (power disconnect and 30 second wait) would resolve this.

If you have this all right above and have tried a full reset I feel
you have a NEC problem.

I'll post a module online in the morning that has been working very
well for me.

Good luck.

Re: PELCO D driver for an PELCO 6700 Matrix

I just uploaded a manual for the CM6700 that contains the RS-232
protocol. I'm not sure if it also responds to the D protocol, or not,
but the one in the manual is pretty simple. I just put the commands in
a Serial I/O.

Re: OT: looking for a PAL to NTSC converter

While working on yachts and multi TV standards, I've had to used numerous
devices, unfortunately all the good reliable ones are not cheap. I really
think you will be pushed even to get a cheap one under a $100.

In the UK the following link are the products I've used with great success.

Not Cheap though

Subject: [Crestron] OT: looking for a PAL to NTSC converter

I have a client who has a bunch of games for the PS2 that generate video
output in PAL format only. He wants to play these and display the output on

a TV; anyone know of an inexpensive (under $100) that can do this (PAL ->
NTSC) conversion? My searching doesn't come up with anything that fits.

thanks

Help with Homevision

goldengot

I can't seem to figure this one out. I am trying to use HV and an
old ST-CP to control x-10 lights in a particular room. I created a
simple SIO that maps back to a homevision controller with the ASCII
string 'lights' in str1 which is tied directly to the touchpanel.
So in theory when the user pressed the hv_light button it sends a
string through the serial into the home vision. The home vision has
been configured to accept any text over 1 character (testing
purposes). When the button is pressed, nothing happens. It works
within the terminal emulator, but not connected to the st-cp. There
was a post by Geoffrey Reynolds detailing how to do this (see below)
The homevision part works just fine but the Crestron piece is
another question. It appears to be sending hex through the serial
and not ASCII. If anyone has had any experience in setting up
Crestron alongside Homevision, please detail your exact steps (i.e.
which mods were used if any, which analog or digital symbols,
strings that were used, if you had to convert using HEX, which baud
rate is used on the serial driver, etc. In other words, any
information that you can give me that would make my life easier.
TIA

In HomeVision:

From the main menu, select Objects/Events -> Serial Data Input ->
Port1
(substitute Port2, Port3, etc. as appropriate for your situation)

This will give you a window where you can program HomeVision to
respond to
events on a serial port.

Next, configure the logic that will handle serial events by, for
example,
setting up a series of If - Then - End If statements. Start by
clicking the
If Then button in the ACTIONS toolbar. Next, the ACTIONS toolbar
switches
to the CONDITIONS toolbar. Now, select the SERIAL button. I've found
the
most useful condition to be "Serial input characters # through # are
:'____' - this lets you listen for a specific string to come from the
Crestron controller. Now enter the string you want and press OK. Now
click
on End If and the toolbar switches back to ACTIONS. Click X10 and
choose
the X10 action you want to perform. That's all you need to do on the
HomeVision side. It sounds a bit clunky (and is), but is pretty easy
to use
and will work very reliably once you have it programmed.

Now just program your Crestron program to send the appropriate
strings
terminated with \n. HomeVision has default support for it's OSD
remote
control commands, so some strings are reserved:

,J0\n = 0
,J1\n = 1
...
,J9\n = 9
,JA\n = Enter
,JB\n = Channel Up
,JC\n = Channel Down
,JD\n = Volume Up
,JE\n = Volume Down
,JF\n = Cancel

So little? They're giving you the ability to add up to nine
additional com ports to your AV2 - among other possibilities - without
resorting to external bus devices.

You're not paying for what it is, but for what it enables you to
do... :)

If you are trying to do absolute mouse coordinates (e.g. press the
screen button you want to click directly), the CNMK won't do it. The
mouse protocol is all relative. About the best you can do with the
CNMK and a TPS2000 in have a left, right, up, down, and click keys
overlaid on the video output of the DVR. You use the arrow keys to
move the cursor and then press the click key -- kind of awkward in my
opinion. Also, I have found that if you have a lot of Cresnet
devices in addition to the CNMK, the mouse movements will become very
erratic.

If the DVR has an XY RS232 input protocol much like that with Escient
music managers, then it would be better to forgo the CNMK, use a
slider on the TPS2000, and feed the position information to the DVR
via an RS232 port.

Re: Lutron HomeWorks RF module?

in addition, IIRC, I think there is a module in the files section associated
with this group...you may want to check that out too.

In looking at the RS-232 protocol, the HomeWorks RF processor is looking
for the KBP command to have an extra "Device Type" parameter.

A HomeWorks wired processor will take a command such as: KBP, [01:04:10],
1 This is processor 1, link 4, kp address 10, button 1

A HomeWorks RF processor needs a command formatted as: KBP, [01:08:02:10],
1 This is processor 1, link 8, device type 2, kp address 10, button 1

All of the modules we've tried do NOT allow the device type to be included
in the command string.

The feedback that Lutron provides also has this device type.

Does anyone have a module that works for a HomeWorks RF processor?

We've temporarily created one-way strings to activate the scenes but
two-way needs to work soon!

We're not yet good at creating our own modules or parsing serial strings to
extract the proper feedback.
