White, blue or red wheel. They are softer (H or J) and run cooler. They also cut faster because they continuously fracture off to give sharp crystal. Hone with oil stone or diamond plate. Dan Coleman

Tony, grinding HSS can be easy or hard. Generally, if you have a store-bought grinder it comes with the cheapest of the cheap Aluminum Oxide wheels (brown or gray). Those are hard wheels that load up
