Re: AXA or BXA
GP, I have the AXA and lantern tool posts. I was looking at the website of the Australian manufacturer who makes tangential tool holders under the Diamond brand name

Re: AXA or BXA
if you check the specifications it will tell you what size tool holder to use For a 9A I would use a axa GP --------------------------------------------

Re: AXA or BXA
James, I tried to figure out those Diamond tangential tool holders. The manufacturer lists the sizes based on tool height in mm and none of them make any sense to me. How did you figure which size

Re: AXA or BXA
I have an AXA on mine and on my South Bend 9A as well so I can appreciate you wanting to share holders and tooling between lathes as that is what I do as well. My larger lathe is a South Bend 16 so I

Re: AXA or BXA
Yes its true the most solid tool post is a lantern type. If you take heavy cuts a axa, bxa. cxa are not as solid GP --------------------------------------------

Re: AXA or BXA
Jody, A number of problems. The lantern tool post is centered on the compound, so the forces during cutting are straight down, as opposed to using a QCTP when the tool is hung far from the

Re: AXA or BXA
Kurt,What if you used that same HSS roughing tool in the QCTP??? Are others finding that large cuts on hard steel are more difficult with QCTP.? I haven't had experience with both in doing large

Re: AXA or BXA
Be easier to buy a AXA, and make a spacer to fit it on the 13" lathe. I got my AXA-clone from Amazon for $140, seems they're going for $150 & up now, where the BXA clones start around $190 &

Re: AXA or BXA
I'm one of the one's that won't. I LOVE my BXA. No problems with using it that the original lantern post won't solve, although I haven't used the lantern post in more than 4 years. It holds 1/4 inch

Re: AXA or BXA
I¡¯m using a Yuasa AXA originally purchased new with my 3996. There are two problems with the BXA. One is that everything about it is more expensive (including additional holders which you will

I agree with GP,.if you need to save money, go with the CDCO tool post. They are nice and I have no complaints.? The holders are inexpensive also.-Jody

Re: AXA or BXA
I have an AXA from CDCO, and love it. I will say do not get rid of the lantern tool post if you have one though. The more I use my old machines, the more I realize they are best used how they were

Re: AXA or BXA
I used an AXA-size on a 12" Atlas, and think a BXA would be way too big. The big issue is that the larger BXA holders will not go low enough with some tooling. The AXA has the slot for the tooling

I asked this question a year and a half back, being my first lathe, and having just rebuilt it I got the answer to be AXA.? It was the choice for 12 and under. I belive you could get away with BXA

AXA or BXA
I want to switch QC tool posts for something I can easily find extra holders. Looking at the Aloris fit chart an AXA is called out for all Atlas lathes. It looks like a BXA would also fit. What size
