Re: File Notifications #file-notice

Thanks, yeah it's very exciting! I wish I could have found it sooner.??

Which hidden QY100 feature would you like me to uncover next? #poll-notice

Long story short, . I am able to develop specialized .Q1P files which users can load onto their QY100s overcoming the devices hard-coded limitations.

There are many things I can focus on making available for the community. I'll get to it all eventually but what would you like to see first?

I Discovered Hidden Features on the Yamaha QY100! #synthesizers #Yamaha

I've been exploring the code structure of the Yamaha QY100 and have found a bunch of hidden stuff in the code that's locked off in memory (not normally accessible by default).

I'm working on developing .Q1P files (the QY100 Style file type) which are capable of overcoming many of the built in limitations of the device.

So far I've found:
  • Extendable Features?- I've realized that the built-in BPM, measures, amongst other things are artificially capped in the hardware. Though it's actually possible to extend beyond these limitations. For instance you can load these .Q1P files onto your QY100 to have , allowing you to build more complex songs. The BPM can also go as low as 4BPM and as high as 308BPM (not as exciting but I will release .Q1P files for this soon too).
  • Hidden chords () - The QY100 has many built in chord structures, but I've found 100s that are normally not accessible. I haven't yet verified if all these hidden chords are unique but will be making them available little by little so others can try out. If you want to try one out now, download the linked .Q1P file and load it onto your QY100.?
  • Unused Patterns for Pattern Mode - There are a handful of unused patterns in the hardware which can be accessed by loading up specialized .Q1P files. I haven't released these yet but plan to in the near future.
I've only went through about 10% of the QY100's code so far. So I'm excited and hopeful I can find more information to share with everyone so you can get the most out of your instrument.

Additionally, if anyone out there would be willing to supply a Yamaha QY700 to me, it looks like the QY700 is coded much in the same way (from what I can tell from reading the manual online). If I had the device to perform testing on, I believe I can also find hidden content and features on that instrument as well and make them accessible for the community. Reach out if you'd be willing to help out with something like that.?

This specialized .Q1P file allows you to have 16 measures in Pattern Mode (overcoming the 8 measure limit). When you load up the style, it will appear blank but each section: Intro, Main A, Main B, MainAB, MainBA, Outro, are set to 16 measures. Note: The measures will display as 1/6M on screen because the QY100 was not meant to display double digits. Though it will function properly as 16 measures. More like this will be published on my website: https://qy100.doffu.net/

This is a style loop I made, with a twist. The .Q1P file features a "hidden chord" which I found locked in the memory of the QY100. There are in fact 100s of hidden chord structures in memory. More like this will be published on my website: https://qy100.doffu.net/

Fellow group members- Would anyone be able to help me? I’m trying to send sequenced tracks from my QY100 to BandLab through a Behringer interface, but the app doesn’t seem to accept them. Any idea on how I might make that happen? Thanks!

Full A4 Manuals for QY100 - User Manual and Data List - Coil Bound

Hey fellow QY freaks!
?
I found myself without a manual for my QY100 and I hate reading computer screens, so I created A4 coil bound versions of the QY100 User Manual and Data List books on Lulu. I was so impressed by the quality I thought I'd make them available to anyone who needs them.
?
There is zero profit from these - I don't own the IP. Well, I guess Lulu makes a profit from the printing...
?
You can make your own versions too if you don't like mine (I just went with a plain colour for the covers) but I figured I'd share these if you don't have time.
?
User manual:
?
Data list:
?
These are not available in the store without the above links - feel free to share with other users, I just didn't feel right listing them globally as I don't own them... even though no money is being made.?
?
Anyway, the books turned out great! If you don't have manuals for any particular gear and have the PDFs I recommend using Lulu - very easy (and no I have nothing to do with Lulu - LOL).
?
I hope these are of some use to someone :)

Re: MIDI Note Overflow

I'm not sure on that, I do know what your talking about there is a word? for it. I think the Vocas should have that on most of there units. They would really benefit from it. I believed you can set the amount of notes being played on each track on the QY70.I'm not sure on that though.

It doesn’t seem to be very common, but I know the Roland D-110 can do it.

Re: MIDI Note Overflow

If polyphony is the limitation, instead of trying to create note overflow solution, you can instead just limit one device to certain instruments, and the other to the other instruments, sounds easier in my opinion to trying to program a microprocessor, or some desktop or mobile midi software for that matter, which could very well work the same.

Thanks for replying Kaltar,

?

I’m intrigued by your microprocessor solution! Would that have to count the notes used and dynamically split them out?

?

Thinking about it, I guess a simpler method would be to send specific Channels to each QY70, but that wouldn’t be overflow, and you’d still have to manage polyphony manually.

?

They’re still fascinating little boxes.

Hi Andy,

?

there is no native way to do it. However, it is possible to code a microprocessor to do this (I’ve done it). The only case where this shouldn’t work is when notes interact with other notes, eg: sympathetic resonance.

Eric, Are you a PMA5 guru too?

So the process is the same and has not changed. Still too risky :(

Is this the same process for the QY70/100? If not, wanted to ask what is the current status for adding a backlight. No new mods around? Nothing new Eric?
We all know the QY70/100 really-really-REALLY needs it! and that Roland PMA-5 is making me jealous!

Re: Yamaha QY 70 Freezing Issue

Welcome to the group!

I’ve had a unit do that as well, and it could either be from a leaking battery corroding some of the chips, which might be resolvable by cleaning it really well with electronic cleaner… Or alcohol, if you don’t have any electronic cleaner.

However, it is also possible that you have a bad capacitor or somewhere on the board… I have a similar board and I have not been able to figure out which capacitor Failed because sometimes you can see an area around the capacitor where it leaked and other times it looks completely normal… But I would examine your board and look at all of the capacitors and see if any of them look like they failed… In which case you probably want to replace the faulty/leaking/bursted one and maybe more of them if you Are technically inclined… I’ve seen it done with regular capacitors replacing the SMD capacitors… But it still takes quite a bit of skill.

Those would be my top two guesses.

Cheers,
Eric

Yamaha QY 70 Freezing Issue

Hey all, got a qy70 recently that has freezing issues. Yes, i've replaced the internal coin battery with a fresh one and i've initiated a factory reset dozens of times and it still doesn't help. The freezing i'm trying to address seems like some sort of CPU hang up. Sometimes the QY70 starts up and works as normal but after a few minutes of noodling around or if I start pressing a bunch of buttons the unit will freeze and not recover. At other times the unit won't even start up and hangs up on the black QY70 screen without initializing all the way. At other times the display won't even turn on all the way, but will just flicker and not fully boot up. This leads me to believe that there is a power issue going on somewhere.
?
Further, I've done all the tests suggested in the service manual and the only test that's off is the "power battery test". The manual says "this test checks the voltage of the power battery is less than 6.3 +/- .01V automatically. (measure point CPU's A/D Terminal)" (Note: i'm not sure what the CPU A/D terminal is, but i'm certain it's not referring to a DAC IC)
?
When performing this test on my unit I am running at 7.3v, but i'm not sure what a power battery is.
?
I saw power from the coin cell battery coming into the main CPU IC13 @ Pin 84 and it's drawing 3.3v which seems good. I started tracing down from the coin cell battery in general and how it connects to the main CPU and it's ROM and SRAM extensions and don't see any clearly visible busted capacitors. I guess i'm just asking for advice on next steps. I wouldn't mind attempting to re-cap this area, but i'm not even sure if this is the problem area!
?
Again, my symptoms are that my QY70 passes every service test except the power battery, in which it runs hot. The unit turns on, all the buttons work, sometimes it boots up and functions for a bit, but always eventually freezes with enough time or if I press a bunch of buttons and overwhelm it. This leads me to believe it's a software processing flaw and it's getting hung up due to power irregularities. I'm not sure if i'm looking in the right spot though. I'll try to put together some photos for yall too
