Can't download big(ger) .zip from YamahaDXFiles
10
All, In my effort to move the files from YamahaDXFiles to 开云体育 I stumble over a couple of files/directories which fail to download whatever I try. If someone has those files locally could you either pls. upload them to YamahaDX@开云体育 or sent them to me ? These are the files directories : 594 banks as single voice DX_SYX dx2 files converted to sys ex DX_DXL geminisolstice's DX7 backup Converted Grey Hair Patches SQL2SYX Yamaha- DX7_Collection_for_FM7 The rest is already there with the original description and the original uploader between square brackets. No further info regarding the transfer from here to 开云体育 for now... The files here should automagically be moved as well when they do it. rg,rg

DX-7 hangs up on startup
3
Hi all, I have two DX-7's, which both have the same exact problem. Upon turning them on, they both hang up while first loading, and get stuck with the "YAMAHA DX7 SYNTHESIZER" LCD readout and the red numeric readout: "88" both stuck on. They rarely proceed on to the fully loaded stage, where I can play the instrument. Because I have TWO DX-7s with the same problem, I'm assuming that this is a COMMON problem, but I have not found any mention of this ailment in the archives or online. My repair tech was clueless, when I described this problem to him. My power source is just fine, and stable, by the way. Help! If you'd respond directly to "dana@...", I'd appreciate it, as I rarely check this group. Battery Source
5
I just got a DX9 to add to my collection. Is Yamaha still the best source for the internal battery? I know I could cobble something together, but I find the factory setup to be durable and issue-free, even in the back of a tour bus.

[email protected]
I have not seen the old message your question was referring to, but I am subscribed to the following Yahoo groups that could have interesting files and users that may be interested to join [email protected] : YamahaDX YamahaDXfiles DX_Files DX200 yamahablackboxes There may be more. Apart from how the transfer of files from Yahoo to groups.io is to be organized, posting a message about the existance of the new [email protected] to readers of the mailinglists is easily done: I have therefore forwarded this message. -- MT

Let's try this
4
Hi, Trying my first message to [email protected] !! Yes, changes are part of life. For example after many years Python 2 will retire and Python 3 will be the only officially supported Python version: https://pythonclock.org/ My Pythonbased project DXconvert/TXconvert still works with Python 2.7 but I will do all development and testing with Python 3.x from now on. So please be sure to use a recent Python 3.x installation before sending me bugreports. Latest DXconvert version is DXconvert-3.0.0. DXconvert/TXconvert is a toolkit for Yamaha TX/DX synthesizers that can read, convert, and manipulate hundreds of different fileformats from/for DX/TX synths. DXconvert is for the 6-operator machines, TXconvert for the 4-operator machines. DXconvert/TXconvert is slightly geeky, but extremely powerful. It can be download from http://dxconvert.martintarenskeen.nl -- MT

Moving the list
24
I've talked to a few people, and there is a site called 开云体育 that seems to be filling the needs of many current and former Yahoo Groups. It even has some features missing from Yahoo's offering. There is a free version that provides 1GB of file storage; and a Premium package that gives 10GB, but costs about $10USD per month. It might be worth looking into. -- Regards, -BW Bruce Wahler Ashby Solutions.com? bw@... http://music.ashbysolutions.com http://halfmoon-switch.com http://ashboys.com 978.597.7008

Mailinglist dedicated to the Yamaha DX series synthesizers. (DX7, DX21, DX27, DX100, TX81Z, etc.) For swapping patches.. It even looks like groups.io has a migration tool for moving most content from yg. ____________________________________________________________ Sad News For Meghan Markle And Prince Harry track.volutrk.com http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3132/5da9a75a6e0ba27595b80st01vuc

Since we're showing off programmers / controllers for the DX7 that we made...
8
Here's one that I built, to give real-time control to the DX7IID, it allows seamless transition from patch preset parameters to live control. https://spectralplex.com/incredible-real-time-touch-controller-for-the-yamaha-dx7-synthesizer/?fbclid=IwAR00fMxGTB_5Z5M0pdOq9JFAV9nK9pCc676zdMmRs0cgvmx-LAN0tI6b8b4 It totally changes the game on how an instrument can be played. as well as making FM synthesis fun.

Japanese DX7 Upgrade Board
Well you can imagine that this would be best country to get a DX7 expansion board from, yet I've never heard of this one before. Google does a decent job of translating, but the link is horrible. So, here is the original: https://ameblo.jp/noz-music/entry-12409746174.html Anyone ever seen one?

Some keys not working on DX21
6
I got the DX21 to make sounds and I have straightened out the keybed. I still can’t get some of the keys to work. I tried swabbing the contacts but the keys still don’t work. Would I need to replace the contact boards?

Trouble resetting Yamaha DX21 [SOLVED]
I found out I didn’t need the cassette cable after all. I used the load ROM memory onto the RAM as what was in the user manual. The way I tried but failed was in the service manual. I am back to experimenting with my synth like how I did years ago. I can’t remember how I made the “Jump” sound on my DX-21 although it was an Oberheim OB-Xa that was actually used in the song. I’ll eventually figure it out.

Sysex/bank quirks specific to DX7iiFD E!
3
Not long ago I archived most of my old DX7iiFD floppy disk patches to sysex files. Today, I fired it up and since the floppy drive recently died, I sent some patches in via sysex- some .SYX and some .MID. This works but with an annoying quirk: The performance set in some banks calls patches that have the correct patch number, but *incorrect* BANK number- so when you call up PERF 1, you might get OK CHORALE but it's asking for CART 1 and CART 33, so you get the wrong sound. In other cases the patches load into E1 but the performances load into E2. I thought initially this could be managed by making sure a patch and performance were both set on the same bank, but no luck. Is there a way to directly modify the sysex files to correct this?

Trouble resetting Yamaha DX21
7
I received a TRS80 cassette cable today and I can’t reset the factory settings. I don’t know what I did wrong. I changed the battery, connected the MIDI in and out, and connected the cassette cable to my amplifier. I keep getting ERR. CASS.

Is anyone programming this for the FS1R? With 8 operators, 8 formants, envelopes and LFO’s and effects it is a lot of info for the screen size or are there multiple screens? It would completely change the value of this amazing FM rack synth it this were so. Tony -- Tony Butler

Hardware programmer for DX7/TX7
15
Hi there, I have put together a programmer that can be used for working with DX7/TX7. It was originally designed for Rhodes Chroma, but supporting my TX7 came to my mind immediately after Chroma started working with it. The main idea is to visualize the sound parameters and keep reading all patch / program changes, so that the information on the LCD is always up to date. Demo of using it with TX7 can seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rkRg2NA8O8 and info about the project at https://www.electra.one/ I know that some of you might think that this is a promo for my project. But my main motivation is to hear your feedback and suggestions. My long term goal is to make it easier to work with patches on classic but hard-to-program synths and dsps. Cheers, Martin

Yamaha V80FD prototype
2
Manny Fernandez recently posted some demos he did for the V80FD prototype back in 1989. This was the FM synth that almost came after the DX7iiFD, but was abandoned in favor of the SY77. Manny mentions that all the protos were eventually dismantled, unfortuantely. https://soundcloud.com/manny-fernandez-4856421/yamaha-v80fd-demos
