I am curious about the function of the Wires/Internet button on Vx-7R. How does one use it? I am familiar with C4Fusion and WiresX on FT3DR, but not sure how VX-7R pairs up to that. I will appreciate any insights from this esteemed group. Thanks. -ST

VX-8 CTCSS on B

Yesterday I found that I could not use CTCSS on memory channels B. The same memory when used on A works fine. When in B, and I go to menu 95 SQL Type it is set to off, and cannot be changed. I cannot find anywhere in the manual that states this difference between A and B. Am I doing something wrong or is this a Yaesu foible?

fnb-58li and fnb-80li battery screw

Hello Group: Does anyone know what type of screw on the outside of the fnb-58li or fnb-80li battery is called?? What type of tool can be used to open the battery case? Hello, My VX-7r was sitting a couple of weeks without use, and the original FNB-80LI battery drained itself completely to show 0V. The battery has been heavily drained before, but it was holding enough charge to keep the HT listening for 5-6h, so I am a little surprised. My question is whether there is something I have running which drains the battery when it is powered off. The radio does have the barometer board installed. Cheers, Tobias

No audio

I hope some are still watching. I have a VX-8R that I haven't used in several years. Am in a wheelchair because of foot surgery, and want to use the radio. But I get no audio out. It seems to work otherwise. It transmits, I hear on another radio. I tried resetting the radio, which reset everything, but no help. I plugged/unplugged a jack in the earphone jack, thinking it was dirty, no help. I did have it set up with a BH-1. Could that be the problem ? Hello I have a vx-7r and I am trying to get to the shortwave stations programmed into this transciever. I pressed function-9 (spcl) and select option 5 which is BC Station. However, I am unable to save this option by pressing PTT so I cannot get out of this menu option unless I set the special memory option to off. Has anyone experienced this issue. I would appreciate any insights. Regards -Sanjeev

Hi, I’m New to radio and got this vx 7r radio. I could really do with a hand getting started and some basic setup configs to start scanner and receiving. Anybody in 5e know with the time and kindness to give me some advice. it would be greatly appreciated

Issues with VX-7R

This has always been a dependable unit but for some reason now has an issue. I can hit our repeater once maybe twice then the frequency display starts flashing and I can no longer transmit. Battery is good. I am at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks. Rowland K7RWB

Hello all! I am looking for the discontinued Yaesu FGPS-2 GPS Antenna Unit that attaches the MH-74A7A mic on my VX-8DR. I struck out at Google, eBay, eHam, Ham Radio Outlet, 409 Shop, GigaParts, and DX Engineering. Are there other sites or resources I should search? I need to replace the rubber cover, screw and washer for the VX-7r. Does anyone have a source for the parts? I have tried reaching out to the Cypress California location but seems as though they are selective in what they reply too.

VX-8DR display options

Checking out my VX-8DR which has been in the closet for years. I put a new battery on it and would like to be able to program it with my RT Systems VX-8D software so that the screen display is less busy. Is it possible to configure it so that the memory channels display in the top 'A VFO' display and the lower 'B' VFO' is blank? Any help will be greatly appreciated! 73, -- Tad Danley, K3TD

Found - my VX-8R

Found my VX-8R and accessories when going through a hall closet today, along with a couple Kenwood VHF and UHF commercial dash mount mobiles programmed for 2 meters and 440 MHz - all in like new condition. They had been locked away in a tupperware container since 2015! I will want a new battery for sure - can anyone recommend a source? Thanks and 73, -- Tad Danley, K3TD

VX-8R Clock stuck in 12Hr mode
This worked before I pulled the battery pack then replaced it but now it wont let me set the time in 24 Hr format. It keeps time and date fine if 12 Hr format, I have no GPS but its set to Manual, GPS Time Zone is UTC +0:00, in Set Mode I follow the manual, changing date, time, and hitting Mode Key till its on Set, then hit the V/M key, it beeps after the V/M key press, then I hit PTT. If I enter anything in 24 Hr mode it wont except it or reverts to 00:00 if between 13:00 and 24:00. Is there some setting I’m missing or some procedure to set the format to 24 Hr ?? Maybe the internal clock battery is toast but doubt that could cause it to not accept a 24 Hr time format. I sent same question to Yaesu as well to see if anyone has a clue. Hello, I got a used radio from the family of someone who had passed. I turned the B channel to aprs and it beaconed his call sign onto aprs fi. I figured I'd do a reset rather than finding all the stuff tied to his call sign. Thinking back I should have just replaced the callsign and edited saved memories. Now when I put the unit into goa display mode by pushing menu (I think, going off memory) it just flashed like it can't get a GPS signal. GPS power I believe it's called is turned to on. I'm sure are.lotsnof.settimg but any idea why? Also, can this be fully setup without a cable? I forget the setting i couldn't figure out how to change but one of the text settings it wouldn't allow me to edit any fields. I also have a FTM-400 and it might be doing the same. That radio is in the shop so might be blocked but it is in the window so I wouldn't think so. The HT was outside with a very clear view up. Thanks

VX-_7R Memory Alpha Tags

Hello All: I just joined the group. I see it is not very active. I have a VX-7R which is the first radio I bought when I got my ticket. It has been mostly resting in a closet for some years. I decided to bring it back to life. I am glad I did except for the convoluted manual. Which brings about the request for help. I can see the alpha tags for the memory channels in the VX-7R Commander software (I use it for programming) But try as I may, I cannot get the alpha tags to display. As an example: I am in MG3, Main. The channel has an alpha tag. I do not see it. I have done a full reset. Written to the radio, etc Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance! 73 Leslie, ad5wb

VX-8R Xmit Band A opens squelch on Band B

I have acquired a used VX-8R, it was heavily used for APRS. I have not done a factory reset (yet). I have cleared all the APRS settings I can find, including the use of the RT Systems VX8 Programmer, I have also cleared all the memories and programmed new ones for my local area. When I transmit on Band A, immediately after I let up the PTT key, I get what amounts to a squelch tail on Band B. Have I missed an obvious setting ?? I’m not new to the VX series HT’s, I used to own a VX-7R a few years ago and was my GoTo Handheld for quite some time. Thanks for any input, 73 Brad, K8ZM

Over the years between 2005 - 20015 I owned a VX-6, 7 and 8 at various times, and sold them all several years ago. I just purchased a VX-6 and added the Comet HT-224 antenna for 2/222/440. In my junk box I came across the antenna pictured which I'm sure was for my previous VX-6, 7 or 8 - and wonder if anyone knows what it is and what bands it covers? It has the same SMA connector as my Comet so fits on the new VX-6 and I am assuming would fit on the 7 and 8 as well. Thanks in advance for any ideas on what this is! 73, Tad, K3TD

Does anyone know if Yaesu plans to reintroduce the VX-8DR? I understand new VX-6R radios are available new from time to time. I owned a VX-8DR and would like to find another one either new or used in excellent condition. Thanks, Tad, K3TD

Poor AUDIO from VX-7R

It has been several years since I used my VX-7R, and when I turned it on the AUDIO was very "thin" (no bass component) compared to my VX-8R and VX-2R handhelds. Is this a feature of the VX-7R, or is it a fault which is repairable ? Thanks Gordon VE3JSJ
