You're close. Make sure the vx7r is in single band mode on the A channel. Then press the MON/F button then SPCL. Select BC and click the PTT. The clue is to be in single band mode on A. Hope this

Just press and hold the A UP button until you hear a beep. The radio will then only display the A VFO. Pressing the B DOWN button will switch to only the B VFO. Press and hold the A UP button
