Re: FT980 dose not recieve
?I am wondering if you have an HMI. I DONT HAVE IT Q: Can you receive or hear anything on AM or FM modes?? ANY AT ANY BAND AND MODE. Q: When was the last time you replaced the RAM backup batteries (behind the panel under the rig)? Have you done a RAM reset (pull out the batteries for at 2 minutes, replace with fresh batteries)? A lot of issues can be traced to this ... I THINK IS IS OK, IT KEEPS THE FREQ AND MODE FROM DE LAS TIME IT WAS TURNED ON. ?Have you done a RAM reset (pull out the batteries for at 2 minutes, replace with fresh batteries)? I WILL DO IT THANKS

Hi, friends, I have done the procedure on 23th page on Tech Suplement. At the begining the voltage was on 8 v. I moved the trimmer slowly up to 6 v with USB and Shift fully counterclockwise. Then switched to LSB and Shitf to clockwise and the voltage did not change. What to do then?

Re: FT980 dose not recieve
Very thanks, Mat and Dave for explanations. I have now the Tech Supplement and read the procedure about BFO VCV in pag 23. But now I have another question: "I understand it could be a problem of shift of frequency in BFO due of out of value of the trimmer. BUT, why the left meter on the radio indicates a value, like it could be a final power state current? It is very common. The capacitor is TC4001 ... it is located under a "can" with a hole to adjust. You can see if it is operating by putting a voltmeter on TP4004 (right near the cap): it should read between 3V to 6V depending on USB/LSB setting, and IF-Shift position. Re: FT980 dose not recieve
Carlos, There is a VCV circuit with a small vaariable capacitor.? Sounds like it is out of range which is common on the FT-980.? Use a non metalic tool to adjust.? You should get the same tone on LSB as USB once in range.? I hope you have the Yaesu Tech supplement manual which is the Yaesu Tech? Manual for the for the FT-980.? The capacitor can be reached by removing the top cabinet cover.? Good luck.? 73 Dave K4JRB n ual -----Original Message-----

Re: FT-980 Problems
开云体育Thanks, Did what you said and it came around, more or less. Had to make sure of freq, was listening 3977 and went to transmit it jumped to 7000.0 All is well so far. I wouldn’t have considered the battery pack as? the problem. Anyway, thanks. Maybe back for more advise. ? Sent from for Windows ? From: Fred_N8YX

I sent the same advice as a reply email to the group. For some reason it didn't seem to make the list.
Pop the batteries with the power off, leave it off for a bit then power on. The radio should come up on 7.000.00 and all tuning controls, buttons, etc. should be functional. If not, time to start digging further. 73 - Fred, N8YX |
Re: FT-980 Problems
It is possible that there may not be anything with the radio (best case scenario, right?).
There are two modes where the band switching buttons are disabled: the memory modes "MR" and "RX-M". The other vfo modes "VFO" and "RX-V". First thing is to press the "VFO" button on the front panel under the "------------SELECT-----------" label. Then retry. If that doesn't work, I would next suggest unplugging the radio, removing the memory back batteries (behind the bottom cover battery "door"), waiting at least 2 minutes to clear the memory. and then replacing with fresh batteries. I have seen various HMI issues when there are no batteries, or if the batteries are marginal/dead. If these don't work, we'll continue looking ... -- -Mat Breton, N8TW |
Re: FT-980 Problems
开云体育I purchased the Ft-980 as a package from local ham (NX0A) who was down sizing.? A technician friend was able to get it going and it worked for a few weeks, but now it’s stuck on a 75 meter frequency, can’t change bands nor ham or general. Had excellent audio.
