I sent the same advice as a reply email to the group. For some reason it didn't seem to make the list.
Pop the batteries with the power off, leave it off for a bit then power on. The radio should come up on 7.000.00 and all tuning controls, buttons, etc. should be functional. If not, time to start digging further.
