Availability in Europe (2019) ?
The fact is that for almost a year the now the FT-60E is not available anywhere in Europe. Even the largest shops (Wimo, WSPLC, Martyn&Lynch) do not carry it and neither do they offer the option to backorder. So Yaesu is not supplying it to the whole European market. Do we know if there are new units produced or the ones in circulation are older stock ?
I agree that FT-65 is a disappointment when seen as a FT-60 replacement. This new range of handheld transceivers(FT-65, FT-25, FT-4X, FT-4V) is a quick way to stop people turning to Chinese cheap alternatives. Nothing more. Nothing to be proud of in terms of new technology or innovation.
So, I guess the situation remains...no way to purchase the FT-60, NEW in Europe. Pitty. |
Re: CHIRP difficulties with loading a code plug into an FT60R

Folks,
Firstly, a Merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy new year to all and thank you all for your advice! Note that I believe this to be an idiosyncrasy of the software and not a driver problem My description was perhaps too brief. Let me enlarge on the circumstances. The symptom I was reporting was that the "the upload to radio" dialog came up with the Vendor and Model edit boxes coming up disabled and for some reason the "OK" button was disabled as well. In fiddling with the software this morning, it allowed me to click OK which sent me to the upload instruction dialog. Following instructions, I dutifully clicked through it, got the radio into "CLONE" mode, and pressed the "MON" button whereupon the software reported a communication error. This was done several times without success. I posted a series of pictures on my blog that show what I am talking about. https://righthandofzod.blogspot.com/2018/12/merry-christmas-and-chirp-my-ass.html Let's leave it at this: it's a wonderful piece of freeware but I am not presently disposed to track down and resolve why it will not write to my FT60R. I do not plan on rolling back any drivers, install any operating system patches or get any new cables. The main reason is that I already have Bob Freeth's marvelous programs for each of the Yaesu radio types I own (an FT60R, 2 VX-150s, an FT7900, an FT2900, and an FT-817) and they work flawlessly. Were I not so bountifully appointed, I would pursue a resolution more diligently. My sincere thanks to one and all! -- William, K6WHP "Cheer up, things could get worse..so I cheered up and, sure enough, things got worse!" |

CHIRP difficulties with loading a code plug into an FT60R
k6whp
I checked the previous messages (perfunctorily) and did not see a direct answer to this question so my apologies for any repetition. In attempting to modify a code plug (add frequencies) to my FT60R, I thought I'd give? Chirp a whirl.
It read the data from the radio accurately and without incident. However, when I attempted to write the data back out to the radio, the dialog comes up with the vendor and model edit boxes disabled. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks in advance! -- William, K6WHP "Cheer up, things could get worse..so I cheered up and, sure enough, things got worse!" |
Re: How ¡®Bout the FT-65?
I have two FT60s and have used them predominantly over the last 14? years. I did buy an FT70 for digital (bought DMR first) and you¡¯re right, it is a better sound quality than the DMR. The FT70 does almost everything the FT60 will and is much easier to field program. There are so many things I like about it I doubt I¡¯ll ever use the FT60s again. As far as battery is concerned, I bought a second battery. Easy fix for shorter battery life.

The clarity of the Fusion signals and voice quality is awesome. Dare I say it is better digital than DMR? Not sure, but I think it has a better sound. I like the small size of the FT70 and find it fairly easy to use and field program too. I hope they can address the battery life issue and sell a larger battery for it at some point. If they do, it might end up being a replacement for my FT60 for mission critical work. Two FT-60's are considered my primary radios. They just work right, feel right, and seem almost indestructible. That said, I also picked up two VX-3's because they are so small that there is NEVER an excuse not to have one with me. Of course, these can share
many of the FT-60 accessories and are programmed to match.
Our local emergency comm group has switched over to the FT-2DR but all admit they are not using most of the features and have great respect for the FT-60.

Re: How ¡®Bout the FT-65?
I've had a FT60 for years and its a great radio. Had a chance to compare it to my Baofeng UV82 at an event. The 60 could hear traffic the 82 was deaf to. I use mine for crossband operation all the time. Just a great radio. K3CLT Chuck Tobias
