Sticky New ham groups added, new groups.io pricing structure on Jan 18, 2021 (long post, intentionally cross-posted)
First, the new pricing structure for NEWLY formed groups on groups.io beginning January 18, 2021. Basic (free) groups formed on or after that date stay free *up to 100 members*. After that, it will need to be upgraded to a premium group. Premium groups ($220/year) are good up to 400 members, after which a per-member fee ($.05 per month or $0.55 per year) is added to the $220 per year premium group fee. That will bring a burden on some new groups, so I created some more ham groups that may grow, or flounder, but I wanted to beat the deadline so those groups will not be charged extra fees, or any fees, for that matter. If they take off and are useful, that will be great. If they flounder, I might just delete the group if members agree, or if there are no co-owners by the time I review whether the group is worth keeping. If you were thinking of creating a group for one of your interests, THIS IS THE TIME TO DO SO before the new pricing structure goes into effect. If you need help with that, email me *privately* and if I'm not overwhelmed with requests, I will try to help. You must be willing to assume group ownership as I will leave the group after creating it and you've been made a group owner. If you need help getting started with the group, I can hang around for a short while and direct you to documentation on how to run a group. As for the new groups I created last evening, I will list their web addresses below. Please contact me *privately* ONLY IF you are interested in joining one of these groups AND ARE UNABLE to use the join button on the web site or find the join process confusing. I would like to avoid what happened when Yahoo closed their groups and I offered to help people if they were unable to join themselves. I was overwhelmed with requests to help, and I'm sure not all of those were from people who had difficulty joining, so please give it a try yourself first. Go to the site and press the join button on the group(s) you are interested in. Follow the simple instructions and you will be approved. All new members will be moderated for a short time so don't expect to post immediately. There's only one moderator right now (me), and I work for a living, sleep at night, and take naps because of my health condition in late afternoons sometimes. I donate some of my time for community work, am a minister, and have to wisely use my time. But I don't want anyone to not join one of these groups because they find it difficult to join. YOU CAN JOIN ANY OF THESE GROUPS BY EMAIL by sending a message to the subscribe address. Take the web address name at the end of the URL and change it by adding [email protected] to it. For the FT-757 group (as an example): /g/FT-757GX Send an email to this address: [email protected] no body text is required in the message, just the address, but to make your email program happy, you can put the word subscribe in the subject and message fields. These new lists are email reflectors only with no storage (a change that was made almost a year ago by GIO's owner). If I had created them before February 2020, they would have storage. We will work something out for storage if the groups get large enough and have a need for that. I will need moderators for these new groups, and soon after they get on their feet, a co-owner who has some real interest and hopefully experience with these different brands of radios. Contact me off-list if you are interested in volunteering with any of these groups. I will help you out with anything you need to know about how to manage a group as a moderator or co-owner. I will list the NEW groups first, then list the other amateur radio groups I created. Note that most of these are not model-specific and are "general-purpose" groups for a BRAND of radio or a general-purpose group for a type of equipment. I did not create any group for which there already was a general-purpose discussion group for that brand of radio, like Drake and some others. I am not interested in amassing a lot of groups to manage. My purpose is just to see that interes

Sticky New ham groups, also new pricing structure for groups
The next message is about some new groups I created to have a general-purpose discussion group for some brands of amateur radio equipment and radios before groups.io's new pricing structure goes into effect Jan 81, 2021. It is a long message, so I just wanted to give you a heads-up. I cross-posted it to all the groups I manage. I will be looking for moderators for the new groups and even some of the established groups, so if you're interested in helping, please email me privately about this. For the rest, please read my next post. It's a long and detailed one. Sticky Welcome new members
This group may take a while to "gain traction" with enough members to make a difference when someone posts a question. I created it as a general discussion group for all Yaesu radios and ham equipment. I'll introduce myself as a ham operator licensed back in 7th grade in 1967 or 1968 as a Novice operator. I eventually went for general but didn't pass the code test, so the FCC examiners asked me if I wanted to take the test for Tech, since it was the same written exam back then for general and tech. I went back several months later and had studies for advanced, since if I passed the 13 WPM code test I would at least have general. I passed the code test and the advanced exam and left with an advanced license. The next step was a big hurdle, but I studied and got to almost 25 WPM for the code test (the requirement was 20 WPM), and passed both several months later. I went for extra partly for the challenge and partly because I was tired of remembering where I wasn't allowed to transmit in a band. :-) I did all that except the novice part between 1980-82. I have a 102 ft doublet fed with 450 Ohm windowline and an MFJ auto tuner that I use with my 7300 and my recently repaired and mostly restored (I have a little more work to do on it to get the tuner and some little things working) Yaesu FT-767GX I bought for $50 and have about $30 in parts in it. Battery eliminator or clamshell for Yaesue FT-65R? 3
Hi! Does anyone know if Yaesu makes a battery eliminator or clamshell for the FT-65R? If not, has anyone successfully used an aftermarket option (or is that not advised)? Thank you, Lynne KR4BMV

HF Rig, Power Supplies, Filters For Sale
Yaesu FT-2000 Deluxe HF Transceiver, Power Supplies, Crystal filters For Sale: . Yaesu FT-2000 Deluxe HF Transceiver: The Yaesu FT-2000 follows in the tradition of venerable FT-1000 series, and incorporates an amazing number of advanced features from the FT-9000 series. This rig has just about every thing one can think of, and a bunch that you probably would not think of. The FT-2000 provides a full 100 watts of power output (AM: 25 Watts) on the 160-6 Meter Amateur bands. Superb continuous receive from 30 kHz to 60 MHz is provided. The receiver front-end includes a VRF (Variable RF Tuning) preselector which works in conjunction with a bank of fixed bandpass filters. This provides a front-line defense against strong out of band signals. The result is improved dynamic range and a higher intercept point than other designs. The First IF roofing filters (3/6/15 kHz) increase dynamic range in crowded band conditions. Variable IF Width and IF Shift allow precise interference rejection, and the receiver DSP also includes an Auto-Notch, Manual Notch, Digital Noise Reduction, and a continuously- variable passband Contour control. The WIDTH control has a mode-determined adjustment range of 200 Hz to 4 kHz for SSB, and 25 Hz to 2.4 kHz on CW. You have tremendous control over the fidelity and/or “talk power” of your SSB signal, thanks to the variable SSB bandwidth capability. The DMU-2000 Data Management Unit is optional. With this much sophistication, you might think that everything would be buried under a dozen menus. Although it does have menus, most of those items are for things that are seldom changed. The things you use the most have knobs and buttons on the front panel, making it easier to use. It requires 13.8 V DC at 22 amps. An Astron SS-30 is an ideal power supply for it. This particular unit works as it should. It looks like new, and is still in its original box. It includes the color advertising brochure with the regular manual. Buy it for $950. . Astron SS-30 Power Supply: The Astron SS-30 is a very common power supply in ham shacks. This is because it is just what is needed to power a normal 100 Watt HF rig, with a little bit extra to spare. It supplies 13.8 V DC at up to 30 amps intermittent, or 25 amps continuous. It is a switching type power supply, so it is quite light weight. I have used several of these, and have never found any switching noise. This one has a very slight positive modification As supplied by Astron there is no indication of when the power is on. A small light has been added to the right of the power switch to indicate that power is on. This one works 100% as it should, and looks very close to new. Buy it with paper work for $100 SS-30 M As above, but with analog voltmeter and analog ammeter. With paper work for $120 . Yaesu FP-707, 20 Amp Speaker/Power Supply For Sale: The Yaesu FP-707 is a 20 amp 13.8 Volt DC Power Supply, with a very nice front facing speaker in the same enclosure. Cosmetically, it matches the FT-707, FT-747, FT-757 and likely others. Electrically, it can provide up to 20 amps, so will work with most any HF and/or VHF rig. It also has a set of binding posts on the back for easy connection of a rig in addition to the HF rig. The speaker has a 3.5 mm plug on it. This particular unit is in very good shape both electrically and cosmetically. I can not find a scratch, dent, or ding on it. Electrically, it works as it should. Buy this unit with manual for $115 . Yaesu Crystal Filters: I have a variety of crystal filters available that fit Yaesu rigs. All of these filters work 100% like they should, and look great also. The following filters are for the 8.2 MHz IF. They fit the FT-1000 series, plus many, many others. If you have a fairly modern Yaesu rig, they probably fit, but check you manual. Yaesu XF-8.2M-251-01, 250 Hz CW filter for the 8.215 MHz IF. $75 Yaesu XF-8.2M-202-01, 2000 Hz SSB filter for the 8.215 MHz IF. $75 The following filters are for the 455 KHz IF. They fit the FT-1000 series, FT-890, plus many others. If you have a fairly modern Yaesu rig, they probably fit, bu

FS: Rigblaster Plus digital modes interface
I have a Westmountain Radio Rigblaster Plus soundcard interface to do digital modes from your computer with your rig. Great for FT8/FT4, PSK31, and other soundcard modes. It comes with the the usual Rigblaster cables to interface with the radio and soundcard-and the DB-9 to DB-9 to use for PTT switching if you need it. Has two of the round mic to RJ45 cables to interface your radio with the rigblaster as well. I will also include a parts unit Rigblaster which doesn't power on, and some of the cables that come with it. This package will need a power cord or wall-wort as I don't have one for the Rigblaster plus. You can wire it for any model radio just by changing some of the jumpers in the rigblaster. It also comes with a homebrew audio switching box which probably contains some good parts in it for projects as well. I am asking $33 shipped in the US and can take paypal/check/MO. 73 John AF5CC

Yaesu FT5100 dualband FM Radio
I have for sale a Yaesu FT5100 dualband FM radio. Does 50 watts on 2m and 35 watts on 70cm. It also does dual receive so you can listen to 2 bands, or 2 frequencies in the same band, at the same time. It will also do full duplex for the FM satellites. It will also do crossband repeat if you need to extend the range of your HT. It works fine but the hand mic that comes with it doesn't put out any audio. The radio puts out transmit audio (confirmed thru crossband repeat), but the mic doesn't. I will include the Yaesu mic, and an Azden hand mic that you might be able to wire to work with the Yaesu. Also has a power cord. I am asking $125 shipped for all, and can take paypal/check/MO. 73 John AF5CC

FS: Yaesu FT100 HF/VHF/UHF all mode plus FC-20 autotuner
I have for sale a Yaesu FT100 HF/VHF/UHF all mode transceiver. This is the mobile sized radio which does 100 watts on HF and 6 meters, 50 watts on 2m, and 20 watts on 70cm. Full of plenty of other features as well, include tone encode, built in keyer with 1 keyer memory, SWR meter, and wideband receive. It does not have any optional filters installed. It comes with the radio and a mic which has the rubber cover deteriorating, and the PTT switch is Iffy. I would suggest replacing the, you can get them cheaply off of Amazon or ebay. It doesn't have a power cord with it. The pigtail has bare wires on the end so you can install any sort of power connector you like. Works fine on transmit and receive. Case is in good shape overall with a few marks here and there. I am asking $410 shipped in the US. I can take paypal/check/MO. I have the matching FC-20 autotuner for sale which works fine and comes with interface cable. Asking $125 shipped for it. IT also works with the Yaesu FT847 transceiver. Has 2 antenna jacks with an antenna switch. 73 John AF5CC

FS: Yaesu FT480 2 meter all mode, excellent condition
For those of you who like to collect and use the older Yaesu rigs, I have for sale from a local estate a Yaesu FT480 2 meter all mode radio. It comes in the original box with the stryofoam inserts, original manual which still has the warranty card, and the bag of parts which includes the mic clip holder, fuses, a spare plastic connector for the PL tone board jack on the radio, the tilt bail, and the screws for the mobile mount. What it doesn't come with is the hand mic, power cord or mobile bracket This rig looks about as close to mint as you will get for a radio of this age. The case and face look perfect. There is a small amount of scratching on the side rails where the mobile bracket would attach to allow the radio to slide in and out of the bracket. The 2 pin plastic connector on the bottom of the radio, which I believe is for the memory back up power source, is missing one of its sides, but it still should work. The PL tone board connector looks excellent. Since there is no power cord, I have not way of testing this. I will say I sold a FT680 6 meter radio from this estate and it worked fine, as did most of the other radios I sold for this ham. I am asking $105 shipped for this radio, which will be in the original box put inside another box. I can take paypal/check/MO. 73 John AF5CC

4 pin power cord and gender changer for sale
I have for sale 2 items for Yaesu rigs like the FT450/950/2000 ( and a few other radios). 1. 4 pin power cord used in most modern HF radios. 6 feet long, spade type fuses in both lines. Each line consists of 2 cables, for a total of 4 cables. Handled 100 watt radios with no problem. 2. Several Yaesu radios use a male DB-9 connector for computer control. Many of the USB to serial cables you buy off of ebay or Amazon have a male DB-9 on the one end. So here is your solution! I have a DB-9 female to female gender changer plug. Insert one end into the male connector on your rig, and now you have a female DB-9 connector to plug your cable into. Great for CAT control of your radio. This one is 2 to 3 inches long, made out of hard plastic, and built like a tank. It should hold up very well. I am asking $22 shipped for both. I can take paypal/check/MO/cash/cashapp. 73 John AF5CC

Yaesu FT450 ribbon cable fix 4
n an unfortunate set of events, I managed to pull out the ribbon cable which joins the head to the body of the transceiver, on the body of the transceiver end. While trying to reseat it, the plastic bar that holds it in place broke. So I am guessing that the jack will need to be replaced. Does anyone on the list have experience with this type of repair? Is it going to be very difficult/time consuming/expensive? Any advice would be appreciated. 73 John AF5CC

Yaesu FT450 final transistor issues? 2
Here what was recently posted on an eham.net review for a different radio: ".re: the FT-450 used at the same price...there is a reason... long history of losing the finals." Has anyone else heard of this? I did a quick google search and could find nothing about this supposed history. If there are final transistor issues, is this just for the FT450AT or for the FT450D as well? Any links supporting this claim would be interesting to see as well. 73 John AF5CC

Yaesu FT-710 5
Howdy Amigos; I bought an FT-710 about a year ago when I got my General license. It has worked great so far, and I am using it in my work to promote Amateur Radio in the SF Bay Area. Recently it has started causing me problems, and I cant figure it out. What happens is that I can hook it up just fine, and run WSJT to access FT8. It sees all the other stations, but when I go to transmit, the radio shuts itself off. *click". I have tried both using HRD for Cat Control, and having WSJT handle CAT itself, same problem. Sometimes I can transmit enough to make a contact, others I have to keep turning the radio back on and trying to complete an exchange. I backed out of FT8, and tried transmitting with the mike. As soon as I speak, KAPOW. Its a deader. I tried backing the power back to 50w, and it seems happier, but 75 croaked it again. Any ideas what the problem is? I was demoing the radio in front of a large group of new hams when it decided to start this, and it looked pretty bad.
