New ham groups added, new groups.io pricing structure on Jan 18, 2021 (long post, intentionally cross-posted)
First, the new pricing structure for NEWLY formed groups on groups.io beginning January 18, 2021. Basic (free) groups formed on or after that date stay free *up to 100 members*. After that, it will need to be upgraded to a premium group. Premium groups ($220/year) are good up to 400 members, after which a per-member fee ($.05 per month or $0.55 per year) is added to the $220 per year premium group fee. That will bring a burden on some new groups, so I created some more ham groups that may grow, or flounder, but I wanted to beat the deadline so those groups will not be charged extra fees, or any fees, for that matter. If they take off and are useful, that will be great. If they flounder, I might just delete the group if members agree, or if there are no co-owners by the time I review whether the group is worth keeping. If you were thinking of creating a group for one of your interests, THIS IS THE TIME TO DO SO before the new pricing structure goes into effect. If you need help with that, email me *privately* and if I'm not overwhelmed with requests, I will try to help. You must be willing to assume group ownership as I will leave the group after creating it and you've been made a group owner. If you need help getting started with the group, I can hang around for a short while and direct you to documentation on how to run a group. As for the new groups I created last evening, I will list their web addresses below. Please contact me *privately* ONLY IF you are interested in joining one of these groups AND ARE UNABLE to use the join button on the web site or find the join process confusing. I would like to avoid what happened when Yahoo closed their groups and I offered to help people if they were unable to join themselves. I was overwhelmed with requests to help, and I'm sure not all of those were from people who had difficulty joining, so please give it a try yourself first. Go to the site and press the join button on the group(s) you are interested in. Follow the simple instructions and you will be approved. All new members will be moderated for a short time so don't expect to post immediately. There's only one moderator right now (me), and I work for a living, sleep at night, and take naps because of my health condition in late afternoons sometimes. I donate some of my time for community work, am a minister, and have to wisely use my time. But I don't want anyone to not join one of these groups because they find it difficult to join. YOU CAN JOIN ANY OF THESE GROUPS BY EMAIL by sending a message to the subscribe address. Take the web address name at the end of the URL and change it by adding [email protected] to it. For the FT-757 group (as an example): /g/FT-757GX Send an email to this address: [email protected] no body text is required in the message, just the address, but to make your email program happy, you can put the word subscribe in the subject and message fields. These new lists are email reflectors only with no storage (a change that was made almost a year ago by GIO's owner). If I had created them before February 2020, they would have storage. We will work something out for storage if the groups get large enough and have a need for that. I will need moderators for these new groups, and soon after they get on their feet, a co-owner who has some real interest and hopefully experience with these different brands of radios. Contact me off-list if you are interested in volunteering with any of these groups. I will help you out with anything you need to know about how to manage a group as a moderator or co-owner. I will list the NEW groups first, then list the other amateur radio groups I created. Note that most of these are not model-specific and are "general-purpose" groups for a BRAND of radio or a general-purpose group for a type of equipment. I did not create any group for which there already was a general-purpose discussion group for that brand of radio, like Drake and some others. I am not interested in amassing a lot of groups to manage. My purpose is just to see that interes

New ham groups, also new pricing structure for groups
The next message is about some new groups I created to have a general-purpose discussion group for some brands of amateur radio equipment and radios before groups.io's new pricing structure goes into effect Jan 81, 2021. It is a long message, so I just wanted to give you a heads-up. I cross-posted it to all the groups I manage. I will be looking for moderators for the new groups and even some of the established groups, so if you're interested in helping, please email me privately about this. For the rest, please read my next post. It's a long and detailed one. Welcome new members
This group may take a while to "gain traction" with enough members to make a difference when someone posts a question. I created it as a general discussion group for all Yaesu radios and ham equipment. I'll introduce myself as a ham operator licensed back in 7th grade in 1967 or 1968 as a Novice operator. I eventually went for general but didn't pass the code test, so the FCC examiners asked me if I wanted to take the test for Tech, since it was the same written exam back then for general and tech. I went back several months later and had studies for advanced, since if I passed the 13 WPM code test I would at least have general. I passed the code test and the advanced exam and left with an advanced license. The next step was a big hurdle, but I studied and got to almost 25 WPM for the code test (the requirement was 20 WPM), and passed both several months later. I went for extra partly for the challenge and partly because I was tired of remembering where I wasn't allowed to transmit in a band. :-) I did all that except the novice part between 1980-82. I have a 102 ft doublet fed with 450 Ohm windowline and an MFJ auto tuner that I use with my 7300 and my recently repaired and mostly restored (I have a little more work to do on it to get the tuner and some little things working) Yaesu FT-767GX I bought for $50 and have about $30 in parts in it. New to me VX8
Was the “A12” indicator always flashing or is it just me? If it’s not supposed to be, what should I check? aprs.fi shows functioning. NFM mode selected.

my first Yaesu
3
Hi all the following is to generate a bit of traffic Although I am new to the group but I do not see any activity is this because we do not have any storage space to store associated literature to any of the articles ? or is it because most have there equipment and it does every think thy want so no help required Personal i fell in love with Yaesu at the age of 19 before that i could only admire the equipment my first encounter was the FT 220 being the first 2 mt all mode rig from then on I moved into a flat so aerials gave me a problem but more recently i was sad to have to by my next rig from Icom 9700 because Yaesu had not developed a multi mode rig for 2mt ,70 cm and 23 cm personal the 9700 has good points but icom have missed out a bit personal i think Yaesu could produce a winier as the market is crying out for a 4 band rig to do 2 mt to 13 cm as this will then cater for the growing satellite market but it will require video TX and RX ether included or from an associated computer the icing on the cake would be to include 4 mt as this would generate more activity on the band for the VHF operators Regards Paul

HF Transceiver, Desk Mic, PS FS
Yaesu HF Transceiver, Desk Microphone, and Power Supply For Sale: . Yaesu FT-840 HF Transceiver: The compact Yaesu FT-840 has two direct digital synthesizers and rotary encoder that provide silky-smooth tuning. The excellent general coverage receiver tunes .1-30 MHz in 10 Hz steps. The FT-840 uses a die-cast RF power amp with thermally switched fan to ensure up to 100 watts output. Other features include backlit 10 Hz LCD, IF shift, reverse CW, dual VFOs, 100 memories, attenuator, noise blanker, meter, scan modes, automatic antenna tuner, and speech processor. 9.5 x 3.7 x 7 inches. Features: 0.1-30 MHz Receive 100 Memories LCD Display IF Shift Noise Blanker Adjustable RF Power 100 Watts Output Automatic Antenna Tuner Attenuator Dual VFO's Squelch This particular unit works like it should. Cosmetically, it is exceptionally good. It has one scratch that you can see if the light is just right. With paper work for $425. . Yaesu YM-38 Deluxe Desk Microphone: The Yaesu YM-38 is a deluxe goose neck type desk microphone. But it is more than most microphones. The PTT switch also has a locking position. It has Up, Down, and F/S switches. It can be used on most any rig since it has a switch for 50 K (high) impedance, or 500 ohm (low) impedance. This one presently has a round 8 pin connector, obviously wired for Yaesu, which makes it usable on TenTec as well as other rigs. This one has the mic element replaced with a Heil HC-5, which is Heil's mic element with extra "punch" for working DX. This particular unit looks like new cosmetically, with no scratches or defects. It also works perfectly. Buy it with paper work for only $120 . Kenwood PS-430 Power Supply: I know it is not Yaesu, but it works great with the Yaesu FT-840 above. The Kenwood PS-430 power supply provides 13.8 VDC at 20 Amps intermittent. Ripple voltage is less than 20 mV at 13.8 VDC and 15 A. Input is 120/220/240 VAC. This is a linear power supply, so no need to worry about noise from a switching supply. The rear panel has a hardwired Kenwood power cable (6 pin molex connector) to connect directly to the TS-120/130/140/430/440/450 and others. Actually it will work fine with any rig that uses the 6 pin molex plug, including Icom and Yaesu and others. There are also "plus" and "minus" terminal outputs (10 Amps max) on the back, useful for a VHf/UHF rig. A snap-down tilt bail is on the bottom panel to increase the operating angle. 6.8 x 3.75 x 9.675 inches 15.4 lbs. This one works like it should, with great output. Cosmetically it is average. Not exceptional like most of the gear I sell. With paper work for $100 . Original Yaesu Manuals: These are the manuals only. All are originals, and not copies. Most are in close to new condition. FNB-9,10,11,12 Battery packs, $2 FC-757AT Antenna Tuner, $10 FT-100 HF/VHF Transceiver, $18 FT-470 Dual Band HT, $10 FT-757 GX, HF Transceiver, $18 FT-720 R, 2 meter mobile, $8 FT-1802 M, 2 meter mobile, $12 FT-2700 Dual Band Xcvr, $12 FTH-2005 HT, $5 FTS-8 tone squelch unit, $3 FTS-12 tone squelch unit, $3 MH-1B A2B speaker microphone, $2 SP-101 P, Speaker / Phone patch, $5 VX-1 dual band HT, $10 These are original Yaesu operating manuals only, in very nice condition. . Other features include backlit 10 Hz LCD, IF shift, reverse CW, dual VFOs, 100 memories, attenuator, noise blanker, meter, scan modes, automatic antenna tuner, and speech processor. 9.5 x 3.7 x 7 inches. Requires 13 VDC at 20 Amps. With paper work for $425. . Kenwood PS-430 Power Supply: I know it is not Yaesu, but it works great with the Yaesu FT-840 above. It is direct "Plug and Play" with the FT-840. With paper work for $100 . FT-107M Question
I have a recently acquired FT-107m that works amazingly well, except the power out on 80m is a bit low. All other bands are 100w or better (10m slightly less). All tested into a 50 ohm dummy load. My questions are: What is the likely cause of this, and is there an adjustment for this? My experience is limited with SS gear, so I am not as up to snuff on it as I am with vacuum tube gear. I have the service manual. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Marc-k7wxk

AM filter workaround
2
I wonder if any of you Yaesu exerts know of a work around for the usually very expensive AM filter in the FT107m. Drake had a resistor across the filter pins as a cheap workaround. Thanks, Marc-k7wxk
