Re: best place for transponder in X-air F

Kind of a mild threa drift, but for the antenna I mounted it on my bottom fiberglase.

Don't forget to fashion a ground plane for the antenna. ?A 5.3 inch square metal piece with a hole in the middle for the antenna works well.

Make sure you have enough amps. ?Some transponders draw 20 amps. ?Early Jabiru engines only deliver 10 amps. ?I put in a 40 amp upgrade from Rotec in Australia.

Re: X-Air Ultralight Aircraft Re: Hanuman suspension bungee replacement

Yes, they are the factory bungees from RandKar France.

I wonder if attaching a rope to the end would help. That way one person could stretch and the second person hold the tension with the rope while the person stretching can recover for a short time. Then put the last end loop on at 3.5 turns and use a pipe tool with a diagonal cut at the end as a "spoon" to get the last wrap on. That tool would work similar to the tire spoons used on motorcycle tires.

Just a thought because it took all my strength and stamina to just get the old bungees back on. It has taken me three days to recover from that ordeal (no lie). The old ones at 4.5 turns are too soft but are tighter than the new ones at 3.5 turns. I don't think I could have done it myself even in my younger days.

No, I only done it working from one end, think it would be difficult to pull both at same time unless you had help.

are you using the white plastic covered factory bungee?

Hi Seamus

Thanks for the replies.

I was trying to pull only one side but both ends were already attached. Each time I wrapped the end around, it caused a twist since the other end was already attached.

Do you mean that I should pull both ends down together to full length, then wrap one side and then the other side?

John

Hi John
?
I dont remember having that problem, are you trying to stretch both ends at same time?? I just hook on both loops, pull down to full stretch wrap it around, pull down again to full stretch wrap around etc, last loop will need a blunt screwdriver or similar to hook it over the nylon retainers.
?
maybe keeping the bottom loop to outside might help let it un twist as you wrap.

Seamus, I tried your method but I couldn't cope with the twists that develop when pulling the cords around the bolts with the ends already attached. I tried putting the cords into the correct number of loops before putting the ends on and then stretching the loops. It still had too many twists.

Hi Steve, thanks for those observations. really two whole different planes then, not just a Standard with flaps.

There are many common parts but the?the airleron?cable routing?on the F is complex and makes for stiff controls. You need to compare the two manuals. Not really worth the trouble thinking about it.

Hi,

Does anyone know what parts of the standard and Falcon are the same, if any?

Biggest change was the addition of flaps, is everything else the same?

Can a Standard wing fit a "F" fuselage?, etc.

FYI

I am in the USA. All the Standards and "F"s are in the "Experimental" category here.

Hi guys, I've had no luck finding the right bungee for my Hanaman so used 4 shock cords # 9044 from Aircraft Spruce. Did fine for 4 or 5 flights but with 2 on board and a full load of fuel the gear got weak so adding 2 more 9044 shock cords. Made my own tool to stretch cords from threaded rod and tubing. Used picture of tool selling on Barnstormers as a guide. Works great. Good luck with your bungee replacement.

I had a similar experiance with my Xair 'H'. The? original kit bungees did take a lot of effort to install.? I did get the 9 strands on but had to pull so much that?they were at their elastic limit, not leaving any left for actual suspension flex certainly not the 2" plus required.
?
When I came to replacing them?I experimented with different?bungee diameters, 12mm looked promising but had trouble getting them in the space behind the nylon washer, I inserted longer bolts but they bent. I went back to the 10mm and found that less that 9 strands was to soft, 9 strands bought me back to?the elastic limit. Thats how I left it, not very satisfactory but at least I don't now rock and roll taxying.

After flying my Hanuman for 6 years, I decided to replace the bungees on the suspension with new bungees from RandKar. I bought these bungees a few years ago and have stored them inside my house.

The manual calls for 4.5 revolutions or 9 strands in the center of the loops. I have been unable to stretch the bungees more than 3.5 revolutions (7 strands) and it was very difficult to get that far. I must be a weakling but is there a trick to getting them stretched to 9 strands? Even with 7 strands, the bungees are tighter than the 9 strands that I removed.

Advice? Thanks in advance. Superhuman strength is not available...

There is a method of doing it, might take couple of goes but it is the best way I found, after building lots of Hanumans.
?
First?fit both the loops in place over the nylon retainers,?then just?stretch and wrap, stretch and wrap etc around the nylon retainers until you can count 9 strands in the middle.?
You may need a blunt screwdriver or similar?to hook the last loop over the nylon retainer.
Important to pull to full extension everytime you loop it around.
Note The safety cables are better installed on the inside of the bungees.
