Removing display cover for cleaning 5
Hi X5105-Users! I have a really stupid question: There is a lot of dust and dirt under my "outdoor" display cover which is hold by 4 screws. Can I simply remove the screws to get under the display cover? How do you clean your device? Best

I need your help - Solved ! 5
Hello, at the end I was able to resurrect my X5105 ! I explain you how . As described in previous post trying to update the firmware my X5105 remained in "waiting mode" after having erased completely the firmware. I had bought from Xiegu.eu the "original" blu plastic cable, but there was no connectoin between PC and Radio. In particular there was no letter C in the monitor of Teraterm. Problem was that inside this cable there is a FTDI clone, and recent drivers from FTDI are disabling the chip. I was asking Xiegu. Eu for help and they sent me a new cable for free. This time was a FTDI chip cable original, model TTL-232R-3VR-AJ , USB to TTL Serial 3.3 V. But also this cable didn't work . No letter C, confirming the communication and no sign of activity. My feeling is that even if this cable has surely an original FTDI Chip working with the latest VCP drivers, there is an issue of contact with the 3.5 mm audio jack that is too short. I've read somewhere that this jack for X5105 has to be a bit longer as the photo hereunder In the meantime the person that sold me the X5105 ( I had bought second hand) found the cable that he utilzed to update the firmware in the past and sent it to me. I connected the cable and ...... the PC read the cable as Prolific chip, but a clone again. In particular in the device windows manager in the COM port there was written "PL03HXA phased out since 2012 . Please contact your supplier" . I was expecting something like that because the Prolific clone chip issue is known. An English dealer , Sinotel, is publishing a small guide with instructions to workaround https://www.sinotel.co.uk/extra_files/Fix_Prolific_driver_error.pdf In particular it's explained that it needs to have an old driver 3.3.2.102 dated 24.09.2008 and is offering a link to download. But the link is wrong, and on his download page there are many prolific drivers but not that one . I found it on the web here https://github.com/brucetsao/Drivers/raw/master/FAKE_PL2303/IO-Cable_PL-2303_Drivers-Generic_Windows_PL2303_Prolific.zip. After having installed and updated the COM port with this driver , I had immediatley signs of connection, and the letter C appeared on the monitor. I tried to upload the firmare and it worked but the uploading process failed at 24% every time. I don't know why. I made several attempts without success and the % of loading became everytime smaller and smaller. I supposed that was an issue connected with the battery. I left the power cable inserted for 1 hour in "waiting" mode . Tried again.... and success , I was able to upload the firmware. ! It was a nightmare . It's unbelevable why Xiegu is not able to offer cables that works. I hope that this story could help somebody else that could run in the same trouble. I wish to thank all of you for the suggestions you gave me . In particular thanks to Jim G4EQX

X5105 Battery? 19
My Xiegu X5105 battery has failed. Why isn't important, but it's dead. I have removed it from the Xiegu case. I need a replacement that preferably has the same specifications... LiFe Po, 3800 mAH, 12 volts, 3 conductor connector. Preferably fits into the Xiegu X5105. I see many people looking for a replacement but apparently they are not available in the United States, and I have no expectation of traveling to Europe anytime soon to get one. I contacted Xiegu customer service (USA ?) and they are not able to help. Has anyone found a compatible battery here in the States? Has anyone hooked up an external battery and if so, specifications and source, please! Also, somewhat related, I popped one of those teeny tiny springs from one leg of the foot-stand and need to replace that too. Thank you all in advance... Norman W9VQ (w.nine.vq @ gmail.com)

TRe: [X5105-Users] X5105 Battery?
DIY is the way to roll but I would definitely use a bms. Nick Marsh Sent from an electronic device with a mind of its own. On Aug 4, 2023, at 2:26 PM, Tim W4FX <w4fx@...> wrote: ?Here's a question. I'll qualify this by noting that I'm an OG computer nerd with 4 decades in the business, but fairly new and unschooled as an electronics maker. It's the hazards of being a software guy. That being said, would it be possible to use three 3.7V lithium polymer batteries in series? Say, something about 3mm thick each, which isn't hard to find. Or would you have to add a separate BMS to charge it, since it's an assembly instead of a single pack? I'm pretty sure that would definitely be the case for LiFePO4, but I don't know about the chemistry for LiPoly. Since our only other solutions seem to be stuck in Europe, I'm just grabbing at straws at this point.

Hello all, I tried to upgrade firmware using original xiegu cable and following strictly the procedure described by Radioddity. COM port was correctly set on the PC .Also on Tera term everything was fine. Memory was flash but no way to send any data from PC to Xiegu 5105. It remained in awaiting mode for hours. I disconnected the power cable and now the Xiegu is switched off completely , no way to power up again. I 've read other topic in this forum but didn't find a solution . is there anybody that can kindly suggest a solution ? many thanks ! bruno

Battery voltage 8
Hello all. I have a question about charging voltage on a X5105. Mine when on the charger reads 13.9vdc input. But after 12-24 hours charging the battery voltage reads 11.9vdc and never gets any higher. It has always been this way since new. The radio works fine and battery life appears to be fine and the battery holds its charge for long periods of time. So my question for the group is does this seem normal or is there a problem in the making? Is the fully charged battery suposed to be 12vdc or hugher? The radio is about 4 years old with 3.0 firmware installed. Anyone else expierence this issue? Thanks in advance, Rick

X5105 battery and external supply question. 4
Guy's does anyone have a X5105 to hand that could do a quick test for me please. With the internal battery charged up and an external power supply also connected, power up the radio. It should power up fine, but then leaving the power supply jack attached, switch the power supply off, does the radio continue to operate from the internal battery with the power jack plugged in and no external power? I am sure that before I blew up my X5105 last year (see that thread about the repair) mine did not continue to run without external power present on the jack plug, but when I tried it over the weekend it now does. I thought there was a set of switch contacts inside the external power jack socket that disconnected the battery pack when a jack is inserted, perhaps I dreamt that was the case. I am wondering if there still is an issue with mine I didn't fix last year. Tony

Uncomplete System Settings Menu 5
Hi All, I'm new in the Group. I bought a used X5105 . It seems working. But I noticed that the System Settings Menu looks uncomplete (vs KE4RG and/or Rev B). serial Nr. is X0300259 and FW version appearing is 3.0.0 , June 1 2019. System Menu that I see is the following: #1 LCD Backlight #2 LCD Contrast #3 Beep Volume #4 CW Tone Volume #5 Key BEEP #6 MIC Bias #7 RSSI Scale #8 User Key F1 #9 User Key F2 It looks missing: - AM Mod Level - Band Stack Mode - Charger - IF Output I suppose that differences are due by old Firmware inside. I'm not particular "crazy" to update (considering the risk to make damage) , but I should like to know from you if the functions that are missing are important or not. IF Output: I don't think to use it *Charger ON/OFF: in the manual there is written that you can't charge the battery when transmitting , but how may I use the external power supply without charging the battery ? Am I forced to use battery only, when transmitting ?* - AM Mod Level -- no idea what it is - Band Stack Mode -- no idea what it is Many thanks for your valuable explanation and suggestions 73 Bruno

Receive audio quality 8
I just got a X5105 and have heard comments about audio being tedious listening with headphones. I have not tried a good external speaker but have tried two pair of headphones and am very disappointed in audio for ssb. Cw seems ok. Playing with AGC helps some but still seems terrible. Even the cheap ubitx blows it away for audio that is more understandable. I guess it is what it is. This one needs a fw upgrade when I get a cable. Maybe that will help some. Intelligibility is rough in noisy conditions. Anyone have similar issues? 73s John N4HNO

X5105 Battery 5 #battery
I think I know the answer to this one, but I thought I'd ask anyway. What is the implication of removing the battery from the X5105, in terms of operation? I never use the internal battery, since I always carry a 4.5Ah LiFePO4 in my bag that charges what feels like an order of magnitude faster than the internal battery. Does the stock 3800mAh battery provide persistent power for the internal unit settings, or does it use a smaller coin-style battery for that? In a somewhat related question, has anybody ever tried bypassing the charging circuit to charge the internal battery, to get it to charge faster. I'd stop carrying the external battery with me if I could get the internal one to charge faster than the 8-12 hours that it currently takes. Mine also appears to have a significant parasitic draw in it, so I have to watch it like a hawk.

Battery issue? 5
I just bought a used X5105 from a local ham. He gave me a small 12v 1a wall wart charger that he'd been using with it. He said he fully charged it, but the battery only said 82%. I didn't check the voltage. I was playing around with it for a little couple hours, not transmitting, just going through menus etc. When it dropped to about 78% the battery died. I plugged it in overnight for about 15 hours. While it was charging it said external voltage was about 11.8v and the battery voltage was 10.89v. After charging for 15 hours, the meter only reads 85% and thr battery voltage is reading 10.7v. This doesn't seem right. Is there something wrong with the battery, or do I just need to get a better charger? If I have to replace the battery, where can I get one in the US? Ideas?

Hello fellow users, FT8 issue that I've seen asked but can't find the solution: No output from the X5105. Using WSJT-X and flrig on Andy's Ham Radio Linux (xubuntu 22.04) Rig control works and FT8 signals are decoded. X5105 Settings MIC/VOX: Internal and External, no difference S/P : Speaker or phone, no difference LIN/OUT: on/on PTT: Normal or Toggle, no difference What am I missing? Thanks! Kevin w2nc

SDR Bandscope (panadapter) for X5105 (DIY Project) 2
I wanted to see what signals are "on the band" and wished for a radio with a 'real time' bandscope. The X5105's signal scan feature is sort of helpful, but awkward to use. And I haven't found a way to be sure of the frequency of a signal shown on the 'scope. So I ordered a tiny SDR module kit and an adapter for MCX connector to SMA connector. The X5105 has an I.F. output jack, presumably for a bandscope - their GSOC display unit. It worked, but the frequency display on the scope turned out to be "backwards", with the higher frequency end on the left side of the display, so it looks like it's scanning 'downward' in frequency. Now there's another little "kit" with the SDR module that comes with an MCX-SMA adapter at Amazon: Nooelec NESDR Mini 2+ 0.5PPM TCXO RTL-SDR & ADS-B USB Receiver Set w/Antenna, Mount & Female SMA Adapter. RTL2832U & R820T2 Tuner. Low-Cost Software Defined Radio for Windows, Mac OS & Linux AND NOW I see there are multiple videos on youtube about doing this and getting it set up. (I haven't watched any yet - only just discovered them a few minutes ago.) To work well, you need a PC that can run the SDR program as well as any other programs you may need, so it needs to be a fairly fast CPU system with plenty of RAM. I'm currently not able to use my system, but if anyone else tries a setup like this - please post your results and opinions to this group. NOTE- my normal mode of operation is FT8, which has a sort of 'built in' bandscope. For other operating modes, a bandscope would be really nice. Knowing there's activity on the band makes it seem more worthwhile to send a CQ. -------- Doug, K8RFT
