Battery voltage

Hello all.I have a question about charging voltage on a X5105. Mine when on the charger reads 13.9vdc input. But after 12-24 hours charging the battery voltage reads 11.9vdc and never gets any higher. It has always been this way since new. The radio works fine and battery life appears to be fine and the battery holds its charge for long periods of time. So my question for the group is does this seem normal or is there a problem in the making? Is the fully charged battery suposed to be 12vdc or hugher? The radio is about 4 years old with 3.0 firmware installed. Anyone else expierence this issue? Thanks in advance, Rick |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI may be wrong but seems like someone determined that the battery voltage readout in the radio is in error.?Nick Marsh WB4SQI Sent from an electronic device with a mind of its own.? On Jul 28, 2023, at 3:09 PM, riushr via groups.io <riushr@...> wrote:

Im starting to think that same thing but just wanted a confirmation. Regards, Rick Sent from my POS LG phone. Real radios glow in the dark.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Rick, For the times I¡¯ve used in on internal battery only, it goes to about 13.0VDC on a full charge and I recharge it at about 11.5VDC. Fairly wide range with no variation in performance. ? Lou N2JPR ? Sent from for Windows ? From: riushr via groups.io

I dont know what to think at this point. The radio works fine until the battery gets down to around 9vdc and then it shuts down. It takes quite a few hours of on time before it gets to that point so maybe the battery voltage monitor is just wacky. Tnx again and 73, Rick Sent from my POS LG phone. Real radios glow in the dark.

I've been an electronics technician and repair man for about 50 years, and shutting down at 9 V. sounds completely normal to me. ? A car battery at 9 volts is seriously low, wouldn't be able to start a car, and probably not even light the lights. -------- Doug, K8RFT |

Agreed Doug however that 9vdc is what the battery monitor reports. That doesnt mean the battery is actually at 9vdc at the time. Thats the reason I believe the battery monitor is wacky on this rig. In order to be sure I would have take an actual measurement of the battery voltage which I may do yet when I get some of my other projects out of the way. I will then report back about my findings just in case anyone else has a simular issue.
