Re: Pics of my Trailer

Pete Cordell

Matty,
Nice job. My wife works for Lowes and I've looked at those trailers
before...can't beat it for the money.

Anytime you and your brother feel like some mountain riding just
come on down. Leave your car and trailer at my house and take off
for a day or two (or three, etc)...

and you can really roll with them without worring about burning up
the bearings like on the small wheels that come with most bike
trailers. It fits two bikes comfortably with added room behind for
luggage storage and this is where I boxed it off on the sides with a
removable center board for the bikes to roll on and off but the
center board keeps everything from slidding forward. The trailer was
around $800. US dollars and about $100. dollars or so in hardware.
I bought the trailer at Lowes and as I said it is a far better

Riding to Pensacola today, could have W650 or Hawk content

Well, I slept in today, it is 7:16 AM as I type this. I will be going to Pensacola today..I was thinking of driving my truck..big rain forecast and I am not looking forward to riding 8 hours in a thunder storm..it looks clear outside now though. 70% chance of rain Monday also..Oh well, I have ridden in the rain before and I will do it again..33 MPG on the Venture (the Venture is just too accomodating as a long distance companion, not to take it if I will be riding all day) as opposed to 10 - 12 MPG in the truck (the truck would certainly be convenient to carry a lot of stuff and more toys, like the 50, but my brother Johnny uses it for sign work and he hasn't gotton back to me to tell me if he needs it this weekend or not), choices, choices..if I take the truck though, I will be taking the W to ride on while I am there..the W is better with carrying a passenger than the Hawk is, and I will be taking the Honda 50 for buzzing..literally, around Beverly's neighbor hood. Beverly is my only kid who hasn't ridden in years as an operator..not since the early 90s, so I am sure I could get her to ride the 50..it is so small and unintimidating.

Beverly did say that if I ever got the electric scooter back from the shop, that she would ride that back and fourth to work..but that thing never did get fixed, several people have owned and sold the shop it was in..wouldn't know where to start to get it back..and it cost only $400 to buy it in the first place..2 years ago.

It would be good for riding through those floods!?You would have to tour the world if you got one, anyway, so shouldn't let the weather here put you off :-)
?
?They are too big to appeal to me but I sat on one of the F650s a few years ago at the NEC, not expecting to like it, and it was probably the most comfortable bike I've ever sat on.? It was the model where you can store your helmet where the tank "should" be, very quirky.? Would have been my next choice if I hadn't got the W650, I think.

I was a bit disappointed with the 800 as it felt a bit like a Japanese bike.It had the low seat fitted which caused my legs to be a bit cramped. It also felt a bit buzzy. The fairing did however give quite good protection and it cruised at 90 quite comfortably. the handling was good as well. One feature I did like was that once the fuel light came on there was a display showing a count down as to how many miles are still left before pushing. Nice bike but not for me. Having said that I would like to try the rumoured GS version.
I always wanted the 1150 Gs but found it far too tall even when the lower seat was fitted. The 1200 is not only lower but is also a lot lighter than old 1150.. I could either get both feet on the floor albeit not flat or one foot flat on the floor without stretching. for my other impressions of it see my reply to Ruari
As to waving bit have you tried using more than 2 fingers :) have a look for a HD rider he/she might just return to your wave

LOL...didn't realise it was that expensive.

There you thinking about a new bike and it was only a few weeks ago
you were thinking about packing in biking and just getting a little
commuter. What was the 800 like, I actually like the one with the half
fairing, rather than the full fairing, although that is based only on
looks as I have never ridden one...hence my question before about
trying them.

As to a GS, its back to the being intimidated by a big bike syndrome
again I'm afraid. In terms of what the bike can do I reckon it would
be the perfect bike for me but size is scary...cue Jake with Bishop
and actress jokes :>)

Still at least if you get a Beemer maybe there will one on the road
that will wave to me; at present, on my commute, I see a big RT, a
Honda Hornet, Triumph Bonnie (really nice colour scheme) and none of
them will wave, whether this is because I am on my little stroker or
whether they are just miserable s*ds I have no idea.

I am very interested in what you have to say about the ATC2000 bullet
cam you ahve just bought. I have been thinking about getting one of
these and spent most of yesterday afternoon researching them, told you
I was bored, and, whislt some footage looks poor, other footage looks
fine, whether this is the way it is compressed in order to be hosted I
have no idea.

I can order the cam from the states for ?49 plus ?18 p&p, however does
anyone know if I have to pay import taxes, customs at this end or can
I just get the seller to put SAMPLE on the packet, as Ia hve heard
this gets around any problems?

Re: pipes

Brent Burtschell

Do you know of anyone who has tried the Dunstall
replica mufflers (available from Dennis Kirk and
J.C. Whitney) with the original w650 headpipes?

At 11:47 AM 6/26/2007, you wrote:

1 PS = 75 kp·m/s = 0.73549875 kW = 0.9863201652997627 hp (SAE)

So 54 PS is actually 53 bhp. I got a brief peak of 52 BHP on the dyno but
that figure is well within the tolerances of different dynometers. The dyno
I used was considered to be conservative according to various people who had
been on other dyno's before using 'mine' so I think my figure of 51 with a
52 'bump' was close.

If the cams are good for it, the bike might possibly make another HP or two
above 7400 rpm, which is where my pipes make their maximum on the W, and the
Dunstall Decibel was after all designed to allow the Triumph twin to make
power up to 8500...But it would only do that if the motor was modified with
cams and head work to do that. I don't know if the 7500rpm point on the W is
dictated by my pipes or the motor but I think at least one person on this
site dyno'd a Dunstall equipped bike and got...50 bhp...So one would assume
the motor does 50 bhp. Obviously there will be slight differences in motors
and measuring equipment and a properly bedded-in motor on an optimistic dyno
could easily see 54 bhp or PS but on balance 50 bhp is about right.

Jon

Am I missing something here, you said that 50bhp is the roughly the
most you can get but the aftermarket site in Germany says you can get
54ps, with some of their Silverstone exhausts, isn't 54ps the same as
54bhp?

Re: Anyone have a review of BT45's

Trouble is that tyres work better on some bikes than others. I first
came
across the BT45 when I saw it mentioned as the tyre of choice for
classic
Yamaha LC350 racers who evidently have to use a road tyre. I
immediately
fitted the same Avon Venom front BT45 rear combo and have nothing but
praise
for them.

A local tyre guru said the rear Venom sucked but the front one was
really
good and importantly for budget racers, WASN'T dual compound, unlike
the
BT45, so didn't wear it's softer compound edges out early.

I choose the BT45 4.00/18 rear for mine but the 120/90/18 is a better
tyre
for the W than the 130/80 which is actually fitted as stock.

Front was a stock size AM20 ( or is it AM21) Venom.

Everyone on this list who has fitted the BT45 has been complimentary
and in
grip and feel terms they are at the top of the list for our bikes.
Some have
criticised them as regards wear, but that's a trade off at the best of
times. A rear BT45 in the UK lasts about 4000 miles for me, and trust
me on
this, that's pretty good as over here our tyres seem to last about
half as
long as yours do for whatever reason...probably different road
surfaces...I
used to get through Pirelli Phantoms on my LeMans in 1800 miles and
the
Dunlop K81 I fitted to the W lasted 2200 miles to bald.

I wouldn't fit Conti's again....they are low profile and the W will
get into
a weave at speed if the rear tyre is to low. I also hate the feel and
grip
of Contis. Whenever I've had a hairy wet weather slide it's been on
Continental tyres.

Jon
I did a search last night on here and could not really find a review
for the Bt45's. I did read some reviews from BMW owners, and they
seemed very impressed.

So anyone have input I would appreciate it. I was thinking of either
the Dunlop GT's, Conti TK's, and then came across the BT's.
Currently
I have the Venoms, and have NOT been impressed.

Thanks in advance!
