UI-View Maps
Talking about maps for ui-view brings up a question I have.
I normally run Precision Mapping9 but thought I'd try the map server by PA7RHM. When I do my position is way off, zoomed in it's on the west coast of Florida and zoomed out it has me in Canada. I'm really in Miami. Anyone have a suggestion, is there a setting I have wrong? Thanks, John |

Re: New Install
Maps... What a headache. I'm new to APRS, new to UI-View, and new to this group. I spent all last weekend trying to figure out how to load a map. Most of the prior software programs are no longer available. What's really tough is you have to wade through all of the changes the last several years to get to that point. I almost gave up. At this time I am using these - Chris van Gorp's website
Chris van Gorp's website Chris van Gorp's homepage View on www.pa7rhm.nl Preview by Yahoo Not sure if there is something better out there, but I was able to get them to work. Looking forward to getting everyone's suggestions as going it alone last weekend almost didn't end well. Glad I'm in the group now. Brad / K0WET |

Great idea! Yes you can run older programs like Uiview32 in compatibility mode, I run mine in Windows XP Service pack 3 mode!
However, on all my PC's running Windows 10, when I do a restart of my PC, the very first time I start Uiview (and yes in Admin mode) it remains stuck in a wait chain Que for several hours. If I kill this launch of Uiview and try again, every successive start after the first one opens and runs normally, until I restart my PC again, and that first launch of Uiview just hangs! Whilst having to kill the first launch of Uiview and then launch again is no big deal, anyone that wants their Uiview to run on an unattended PC will obviously find the wait time a problem! 73Steve, kf6wax From: "John k4ag@... I would suggest you upgrade WIN 7 or WIN 8 to Windows 10 because you have 30 days that you can go back if for some reason you don't like Windows 10 for one reason or another. I'm having no problems that would make me switch back so far. |

Response from my IT guy. He once was the eight year old who fixed all my
computer problems! See below. Steve kb1chu If they can get professional versions of windows 10 they can prevent updates from being installed. They can then disable driver signing as well. Win8 or 10 (at least until more is know about Win10 and its many bugs) I've already seen folks complaining about a delay start bug on legacy software and UI-View which is legacy also I am personally holding off on win10 for I dont like to be on the bleeding edge of issues with new OS's...
