Woops you need only run AGW on the packet machine it is not needed on the remote machine. As far as I know you need agw see below for the extract from changes 216.txt As for setting up an IP adress do start -> settings -> control panel -> network Then look for TCP/IP > do properties on the IP adress tab do specify ip adress and pick something at random such as 33.33.33.01 this is now your IP adress and for god's sake do this only on your packet machine not your internet machine otherwise you will run into problems with your internet machine. Hope that helps. === (V2.16) 20. AGW host mode now supports the Packet Engine tcp/ip interface. Previously it only supported the DDE interface. If the Packet Engine and UI-View are running on the same PC (the normal situation), there is no advantage to using the tcp/ip interface. However, it enables you to have AGWPE running on a different PC to UI-View. PLEASE read the "AGWPE Setup" section of the help, and PLEASE TAKE NOTE of the requirements. In particular, you MUST have version 2000.13, dated 29th December 1999, or later of the Packet Engine, because all previous versions lacked support on the tcp/ip interface for a feature used by UI-View. NOTE - there was an earlier version 2000.13 that didn't have support for the required feature. ----- Original Message -----

First make sure your network works using windows so you can access files on the other computer. Then install AGW (new version) on both machines On the packet machine make sure winsock interface is ticked run ui-view on the packet machine and make sure it works with agw. run ui-view on the remote machine and setup the host to agw and clck on setup and enter the IP address on the packet machine. Once this is done you get UI-View on the remote machine operating exactly as if it was on the packet machine. Nice one Roger! ==== If you wish to setup it up so as to connect to the internet from your packet machine then you need to get hold of wingate and install it on your internet machine. Re: smile it's y2k nearly
I have seen some funny things on my screen since I started running UI-VIEW. I
saw a buoy just off the Essex coast describing itself as the smallest country in the world. I have seen a horse. Last night I saw a lost rover! I presume this was a joke about a lost dog.I suppose tomorow we might see landing aliens for the new millenium?! Now there is an idea. Unfortunately though I can not find a suitable symbol. All good fun in the spirit of the season. 73, Simon g7guo |

use the 'proper' call for the country that you are in (or Principality, but let's not get that deep here - HI!). Like on voice, having to change each time from GW to G and back again. In reality, who's going to bother you about it? Only other Amateurs, to whom it gives something to talk/argue about. :-) Like some motoring offences, unless you are 'done' for something else as well, I doubt if the RA are going to patrol the Scottish and Welsh borders looking for errant UI-View/APRS users. ;-) Cheers de Dave (G0DJA) Being someone that lives within one or two miles of the border and crosses |

From: "Andy Pritchard" <apritch@...>For instance the local BBS and packet group run the 70cm and 23cm voice repeaters, so it *may* be possible, I guess, to set something up at one or other of those spots. However, I can almost hear the Treasurer asking where the funds are going to come from HI! It's worth asking anyway, as many groups have linking systems on 70cm/23cm and those sites may be able to support a WIDE digipeater...... Cheers de Dave (G0DJA) |

Keeping to the letter of the licence, then every time you cross you shouldThis that follows isnt an argument...more a 2m repeater dribble of thoughts... <ducks> Ooo. the Kenwood THD7 doesn't have CWID by the way :) Personally, since /m you dont need a log - then sticking to your home call even when (gasp) in Eng-e-land strikes me as a non heinous crime. Its not as if I'm being imprecise with my actual location?? :) If I do have to change callsigns then I'll do what PAF did today - run hell for leather back across the state line but leave a GW 'shadow' permanently anchored in Cymru. :) Thats MORE misleading n'est ce pas? I can't actually do it without slapping a terminal prog onto theTNC and replacing the GPS and deactivating GPS mode and changing MYcall and then reactivating the GPS mode...etc etc and then.... what of packet in France. Im GW0TQM there - cos you CANT put a slash in mycall... <visual imagery goes off the scale> All this riding the cutting edge of the wave of IT makes yer legs ache... Vive l'europe. Happy New Year! Of course the TH-D7 and TM-D700 can do this already, without the mic-e box.
For those of you that don't subscribe, the US APRSIG has gone wild with info about the new Kenwood radio, it's been released there. 73......Ciemon Dunville G0TRT email: g0trt@... Loc: 5207.25N 00058.23E www: www.g0trt.freeserve.co.uk Tel: +44 (0)7715 104275 ICQ#: 6263612 |
Re: UK site cleared nodes overlay
Ciemon G0TRT
Hi all,
Some of you may have heard of the mic-e system, this is one possible way of getting your local repeater group to "develop their repeater". Quite simply, the mic-e (microphone encoder) is a box that goes between your mic and radio. Attached to that box is a GPS. As you're driving along your packets get fed to the mic-e and get transmitted on the repeater input, normally when you de-key. The repeater filters out the packet "baaaaaarp" so that it doesn't get put out on the output. The filtered "baaarp" is sent out on 144.8. No-one on the repeater knows anything about it!!! So, for those of you who want to run a 2m rig in the car and APRS on 144.8 this is a possible solution. It's also get some well placed digi's up. 73......Ciemon Dunville G0TRT email: g0trt@... UI-View V2.16 beta update available
Roger Barker <[email protected]
For those who didn't realise it - UI-View V2.15b expires at midnight on
31st December! I have now uploaded V2.16b to the Onelist files area. It's uiv216.exe in the Beta folder. Don't be surprised if it has one or two problems:- The reason it's so late being released is because I have been waiting for SV2AGW to release an update of the Packet Engine. I put new code into UI-View at the beginning of December, which wouldn't work because of a slight problem in the Packet Engine's support for the TCP/IP interface. I was faced with the choices of releasing a UI-View update with a new feature that didn't working, or trying to disable the new feature and hide it, or hanging on and hoping the Packet Engine update was released in time. George released the update yesterday, but it only partially fixed the problem that I had found. However, I think I have managed to work round the remaining aspects of the problem. Please bear in mind that this is a beta version of UI-View and also that SV2AGW puts an awful lot of effort into developing the Packet Engine, so don't complain too loudly if some problems occur! Also, I much prefer bug reports to be sent to this list rather than as packet bulletins. (Anyone who has followed the saga since I released a WinPack update a week or so ago will know why I'm saying that.) If anyone chooses to announce this beta on the UK packet network, please include all these comments in the announcement. UI-View now supports the AGWPE TCP/IP interface. The default is to use the DDE interface, but the TCP/IP interface will allow you to have AGWPE running on one PC and to have UI-View running on another PC, connecting to the remote AGWPE via TCP/IP. To use the AGWPE TCP/IP interface with UI-View you ***MUST*** use the latest version of AGWPE. The internal version number is still 2000.13, but AGWPE.EXE is time stamped 10:42 on 29th December 1999 and is 421,888 bytes in size. If you try to use a previous version, then it definitely won't work. If you downloaded your version before 29th December, then you can't possibly have the correct version! NOTE - this only applies to using the TCP/IP interface, if you use the default DDE interface then you can use any version of AGWPE. The download URL is t.gr/sv2agw/inst.htm The following are the changes since V2.15b. A full list of the changes since V2.1 is included in the update. Changes UI-View V2.15 -> V2.16 beta ----------------------------------- 1. 2. Double-clicking on an overlay station will now always open a fixed station details form, even if the station is a weather station. Previously it opened a weather info form, which was pointless for an overlay station. 3. "Set PC Clock From GPS" option added to "GPS Setup". PLEASE read the help for more information - the Offset value does not work exactly as you might expect. 4. UI-View can now act as an APRS server. If you have two or more UI-View systems on a LAN, one can act as a server for the others. See the "Local APRS Server" section of the help. 5. IGATE.INI now makes available extra options for the internet to RF gateway. See the "APRS Server Setup" section of the help. 6. Pressing F8 with the focus on the main window provides a shortcut to the "GPS Input Enabled" check box in "GPS Setup". The Following Bugs Have Been Fixed ---------------------------------- 1. If you used a proxy server to connect to APRServe, the "Text to send on connection" wasn't always sent. 2. In "Miscellaneous Setup", you couldn't leave "Extra maps path" blank. 3. A station with a callsign nine characters long, e.g. GM4IDE-10, could be reported as being your best DX, even if it was heard via a digi. 4. When data from APRServe was saved in a log file, the last character of the frame header could be lost. -- Roger Barker, G4IDE roger@... Boston, UK |
Re: UK site cleared nodes overlay

Hi Roger
Nice overlay I wonder if only just some of them nodes were to add a digi port on 144.800 we could have a constant national network over night. I have asked our local packet group maxpak if they could accomodate a 144.800 port for the midlands. Perhaps if everybody asked there local groups if they could just add a port it would certainly be a step in the right direction for us. 73 - Andy, G7OCW |
