A Second Barnful Of Lard 5
Hi everyone, Now that we are in 2025, it is time to start thinking about A Second Barnful of Lard. This event will be held on Saturday 7th June at Lincombe Barn, Overndale Road, Downend, BS16 2RW. Following on from last year's first Lardy event for the club, this will follow the same format as every other Lardy day, i.e. hosted games with everything provided, but if you want to use your own dice, tokens, markers and tape measures that is fine. We are hoping for 8 games this year, which means we will have room for up to 32 players. We already have four or five games planned and I expect that we will have more before long, so I'm trying to get players to come along and join the fun. If you are interested in coming along to play let me know in the comments below. The day will cost ?10 per person. Thanks Carole Flint

Midgard on Infamy! Infamy! terrain
Midgard being a mass battle ruleset has the common sense of bringing the armies together in relatively open terrain. Infamy! Infamy! where the forces represent smaller numbers generally has much denser terrain - lending itself to ambushes etc. I christened similar terrain for Dux Brit as "Shaggy Britain". I've just played a game of Infamy! Infamy! where [Foundry] Romans overcame Gauls [Minifigs painted 50 years ago when I was a student]. I enjoyed it immensely as it had been a few months since my last outing with these rules. I decided to run Midgard next but on the same table set up which is in wild country including a river with only one small ford. It's proving an interesting challenge though with the Midgard rules the terrain is more a nuisance than a real hindrance. [I've counted the shallow river as a stream for the rules]. The battle [Arthur and Aelle lists from the rulebook] is still ongoing so no final verdict yet. However, if you're looking for a change and not in too competitive amood i.e. looking for narrative, why not try Midgard on Infamy! Infamy! dense terrain. It's an interesting command challenge. Free places still available for an operational wargame (Kriegsspiel) of Operation Market Garden on Saturday 15th March: London / Bristol / Nottingham.
While we eagerly await the Chain of Command supplement for Operation Market Garden (once the 2nd edition is out), here is some Market Garden action in more of a Kriegsspiel format. It will be spread across three sites with about 40 players in each location: London, Bristol and Nottingham. I've been assigned to Kampfgruppe von Tettau at Arnhem. I thought this had sold out ages ago, but apparently there are still free spaces: Megagames — Stone Paper Scissors

Midgard 11th century
Has anyone already made lists for Vikings and Late Saxons for Midgard? If so would you share so the wheel doesn't have to be invented again. Although I do hope to get around to creating some lists of my own [surely part of the fun]; so far I've used lists from the books i.e. Dwarves versus Aesir [two games played] and Arthur versus the Saxons [the second game of which is underway] thanks Merry Christmas to all who read this, Stephen

Two Questions for "A Baptism at Bleid"
Excited to give "Through the Mud and the Blood" a go, but the above-referenced scenario has two gaps -- at least in my head. 1: What to do with Caporal Aubergine? He's not accounted for anywhere I can find. 2: I assume Rommel's Zug is broken into Gruppen and each gets a blind? Or perhaps two Gruppen to a blind? Thanks, Jim

Lardies -- I need your help. What term would have been used in Napoleonic times if someone had "the jitters"? Like a new recruit being very nervous in battle. Thanks

CoC (Chain of Command): Engineer & Medic figures in 15mm / 1:100th especially wire cutters and demolition teams. 9
Please could anyone offer some advice about appropriate model figures for engineer teams in CoC (Chain of Command), especially in 15mm / 1:110th scale...? Mine detectors and flame throwers are available for most nations from Peter Pig, but no one seems to make any figures with wire cutters or a demolition team with satchel charges and a detonator. Also, dedicated medic figures seem hard to come by. My own solution is to use (kneeling and open-handed) anti-tank gun crew figures (again from Peter Pig) and attach scratch-built wire cutters, satchel charges, detonator boxes (and first-aid satchels for medics). However, maybe some manufacturer I don't know about makes dedicated figures - perhaps one of the 3D printed resin figure makers...?

BTH multi engined planes and Pilot hits 3
Can anyone explain the mechanism of how a pilot is hit in a multi engine plane? This will sound a strange thing to come out for such an old ruleset, but it is something I recently noticed that I cannot see how you get a pilot hit on the damage charts nor could I find anything about rolling for it on a cockpit hit. best regards kev

IABSM vs CoC info 4
So in IABSM v3 organizing your forces show most squads having 8 men while in CoC army lists almost all have 10 men. So who is correct? I have been collecting CoC army lists planning to use them for various forces across various games. I haven't gone on a big hunt elsewhere as the CoC info seemed sound. So which is correct?

Chain of Command v2 3
For those nothing list who don't engage in "social media", Richard Clarke revealed on Facebook today that they are working on a version 2 of Chain of Command. They apparently did preview some aspects at Ebor Lard this weekend. Here is the text of Richard's announcement. Morning all. Well, the Chain of Command cat is out of the bag and it’s creating more noise than we anticipated. When Alex asked if he could mention the news about a second edition we had reached a point where keeping it a secret any longer was going to be impossible anyway as we are now at the stage in the development process where we are talking the game round the shows getting reacting from the gaming community. We did run “nearly v2” at Lard Workshop in Nottingham a few weeks ago, but we came out with some nonsense about testing ideas for a 1945 supplement. This weekend at Ebor we couldn’t maintain the illusion any longer and said “Right, this is it, what do you think”. And then great chum of Lard and a man who has been an important part of the playtest group so far, Alex from Storm of Steel well and truly outed us by dropping “a subtle hint” (my arse!) on his ever-popular YouTube Channel. So, we’re not ready to make a full announcement, but the worst thing we felt we could do was allow rumour to replace facts. As a result, here are some facts about what you can expect from Chain of Command v2. What follows is in several parts, this being Part One. Firstly, I need to stress that the game is the effectively the same. Everyone who has played CoCv2 has said very strongly, “This is Chain of Command”. John Savage, the author of What a Cowboy has also been part of the playtest development group. Indeed, his CoC Vietnam game run this weekend at Ebor Lard used many of the changes in the rules. John, far more erudite than me, said the following: “No need for existing fans/players of CoC to be worried about CoC2. The core engine is remaining very much in place but with some nice added extras. It’s still very much the brilliant game we know and love but now with some more interesting decisions, more options and a bit more interactivity! The core forces will remain very much the same. After all it’s a ruleset very much rooted in history and a British platoon of 1944 is still a British platoon of 1944 and is not going to change. It also gives TFL the opportunity to consolidate all the rule changes introduced in the Blitzkreig and Far East supplements as well as the FAQ. All of which makes further handbooks such as the Pacific and Arnhem easier to produce. I’m really liking what I’ve seen so far and I’m absolutely certain that fans of CoC will very much be fans of CoC 2!” And that just about sums it up. Most importantly it explains why we are producing v2 now. The truth is that we have been aware that we wanted to do a second edition since before COVID. The changes that you see in the 1940 handbook and the Far East Handbook have all come from the process of working on v2. So, the good news is that they are already “v2 compliant”. Indeed, the structural changes in v2 mean that all the existing Pint-Sized Campaigns will still work perfectly well with the second edition. We will simply produce a set of notes to guide you through any suggested change which will really just be about troop ratings. Our plan was to produce the Pacific Handbook immediately after the Far East Handbook. However, when putting the Far East book together it became clear that we needed to include all of the core changes in that which we had already included in the 1940 Handbook. That duplication took up a fair chunk of pages and didn’t actually add anything to the overall canon of CoC knowledge. What became equally clear was that when we produced the Pacific Handbooks we’d need to duplicate all of that again AND also duplicate the Far East rules before we got down to adding the new rules for amphibious landings and tunnels and cave warfare. If we had to duplicate EVERYTHING every time we produced a new handbook it would make everything ridiculously bulky and increase the cost of the product for n

Posh Lard 2024 Cancelled
Regrettably, this year's Posh Lard is not going to happen. I'm flat out of spoons to cope with the necessary arrangements and re-negotiating with our venue (who appear to have had a very stressful summer and (probably through no fault of their own) not exactly been on the ball for confirming bookings), and I've been dealing with the aftermath of our end-of-May flood - we have literally just got the last of the carpets replaced, and there's still boxes of stuff all over just about every room in the house. Really sorry to disappoint folks - there *will* be a 2025 event, gods willing and the creek don't rise.

I’m thinking of running the “Army Navy Game” from the Guadacanal CY6! Book. It’s P-39s and F4Fs vs Zeros. First I‘m not seeing the difference between Wildcats and Zeros. They are roughly the same maneuverability (* for the zero). The zero hits harder (20mm) but are fragile. The Wildcat is tougher. But my question is how does the Wildcat really differ from the Zero in play? Other than blowing up differently? Also Zeros suffer from fire, what is the test in “Aircraft with a * marked against their robustness [ROB] must test for fire”, as opposed to ”on fire”?

WW2 Games and Sharp Practice in London 2
Hi, My WW2 lead is in the process of coming over from America, and I'm wondering who plays what in the London area. I have dabbled with Chain of Command, have IABSM (but not played) and am intrigued by O Group, so am open to most anything. I have a variety of 15mm and 10mm armies. I have matched 1812 armies in 25mm for Sharp Practice, and would like to return to that game as well. I play at CLWC most Mondays but can go elsewhere. Cheers, Dave Lynch

Advance to Havana 1762 15mm SP game
The second game in our Havana SP campaign was a lot of fun with some interesting Cuban/Spanish units. Another game inspired by the Stuart Imsch booklet Against Spain: Wargaming the Seiges of Havana and Manila 1762-1764. This sceanrio takes place 6 miles or so from the Cojimar beaches, June 8, 1762. The Spanish send out forces to oppose the Crown advance and plan on meeting them along a ridge outside of Guanabacoa. Havana 1762 SP AAR Landing at Cojimar 7
Looking for some different settings for SP games I decided on expanding my 7yW in the Carribean with the British attack on Havana in 1762. I used Stuart Insch's Against Spain booklet as inspiration. The first game was a British assault on a beach redoubt outside Havana. The Crown had a force of 32 Grenadiers, 32 Light Infantry and some support from naval guns off table and 6 Big Men. The Spanish had 32 Regulars (3 Big Men) and 2 units of 36 Cuban Militia types with 4 Big Men. It was a simple game to get plaayers acquainted with the theatre. Full AAR on flickr.
