Re: A Second Barnful Of Lard

Please note that because of the clash with OML and another Lardy event in Bristol in May, I have regretfully had to scrap this event. Hopefully, the club will try and run in in 2026.

Midgard on Infamy! Infamy! terrain

Midgard being a mass battle ruleset has the common sense of bringing the armies together in relatively open terrain.
Infamy! Infamy! where the forces represent smaller numbers generally has much denser terrain - lending itself to ambushes etc. I christened similar terrain for Dux Brit as "Shaggy Britain".?
?
I've just played a game of Infamy! Infamy! where [Foundry] Romans overcame Gauls [Minifigs painted 50 years ago when I was a student]. I enjoyed it immensely as it had been a few months since my last outing with these rules.
?
I decided to run Midgard next but on the same table set up which is in wild country including a river with only one small ford. It's proving an interesting challenge though with the Midgard rules the terrain is more a nuisance than a real hindrance. [I've counted the shallow river as a stream for the rules].?
?
The battle [Arthur and Aelle lists from the rulebook] is still ongoing so no final verdict yet. However, if you're looking for a change and not in too competitive amood i.e. looking for narrative, why not try Midgard on Infamy! Infamy! dense terrain. It's an interesting command challenge.

Free places still available for an operational wargame (Kriegsspiel) of Operation Market Garden on Saturday 15th March: London / Bristol / Nottingham.

While we eagerly await the Chain of Command supplement for Operation Market Garden (once the 2nd edition is out), here is some Market Garden action in more of a Kriegsspiel format.
?
It will be spread across three sites with about 40 players in each location: London, Bristol and Nottingham.
?
I've been assigned to Kampfgruppe von Tettau at Arnhem.
?
I thought this had sold out ages ago, but apparently there are still free spaces:

If you are on Facebook, the group "Lard Up Down Uder" has quite a few.
Being a Bear of Very Little Brain I neglected to take any pics myself.

Hi Klaus-Dieter,
?
Rich never goes firm on a release date until the rules are ready for printing as it is only at that point that he can be confident of dates – so we don’t have anything definite.? He has also said not in this tax year so not before early April 2025.? However, it seems work is progressing well and he is very much in the final stages of writing if not formatting/production.? And I think the simple answer is as soon as he can without compromising quality.

Hope this helps,

Mainly the rule relevant Groups on Facebook I suspect or the new Lard Forum which replaced the version lost in the great website crash. Though the latter is less busy these days.?

Re: Lack of posts

I've always preferred/turned to the forum for questions/discussions...probably because I never used (and developed proficiency with) the 'scrolling format' of chat-type-sites that are difficult (for me) to navigate and whose annoying algorithm tells me what I'm interested in...

Re: A Second Barnful Of Lard

Yes, fingers crossed

Re: A Second Barnful Of Lard

Yes, I only found that out because Matt Slade said he couldn't come. The date was booked last year, so it is too late to change it.
?
Never mind, maybe next time?

Re: A Second Barnful Of Lard

Hi Carole, I would have loved to come, and possibly have brought a game, but you’ve picked the same day as OML at Evesham, which is a shame.
Cheers, Bob

A Second Barnful Of Lard

Hi everyone,
?
Now that we are in 2025, it is time to start thinking about A Second Barnful of Lard. This event will be held on Saturday 7th June at Lincombe Barn, Overndale Road, Downend, BS16 2RW.
?
Following on from last year's first Lardy event for the club, this will follow the same format as every other Lardy day, i.e. hosted games with everything provided, but if you want to use your own dice, tokens, markers and tape measures that is fine.
?
We are hoping for 8 games this year, which means we will have room for up to 32 players. We already have four or five games planned and I expect that we will have more before long, so I'm trying to get players to come along and join the fun.
?
If you are interested in coming along to play let me know in the comments below. The day will cost ?10 per person.
?
Thanks
?
Carole Flint

Midgard 11th century

Has anyone already made lists for Vikings and Late Saxons for Midgard? If so would you share so the wheel doesn't have to be invented again.
?
Although I do hope to get around to creating some lists of my own [surely part of the fun]; so far I've used lists from the books i.e.
Dwarves versus Aesir [two games played]
and Arthur versus the Saxons [the second game of which is underway]
?
thanks
?
Merry Christmas to all who read this,
Stephen

Two Questions for "A Baptism at Bleid"

Excited to give "Through the Mud and the Blood" a go, but the above-referenced scenario has two gaps -- at least in my head.
?
1:? What to do with Caporal Aubergine?? He's not accounted for anywhere I can find.
?
2:? I assume Rommel's Zug is broken into Gruppen and each gets a blind?? Or perhaps two Gruppen to a blind?
?
Thanks,
?
Jim
