IABSM vs CoC info
So in IABSM v3 organizing your forces show most squads having 8 men while in CoC army lists almost all have 10 men. So who is correct? I have been collecting CoC army lists planning to use them for various forces across various games. I haven't gone on a big hunt elsewhere as the CoC info seemed sound. So which is correct?

IABSM tends to go with the usual effective strength of sections, allowing for casualties, detached troops, etc. CoC goes for full paper strength. Neither is wrong, just a different approach. For Chain of Command the author deliberately chose to use full size squads/sections to make it easier for players to follow the historic tactical manuals for the period or create their own platoons based on historic TOEs. If you use the CoC platoons in a campaign setting, in which the rules excel, you will find after a couple of games the size of squads often reflects those found in the IABSM rules.
You will find ratings for some full TOE size units for IABSM in the “Battle for Liberation“ handbook which can serve as a guide if you want to use full size units under those rules, though since you are fielding a company it isn’t really necessary in my experience. John |
Also, remember, that squads in IABSM are the base unit and thus abstracted.
In IABSM, most squads are 8-men strong (except American are 10-men).
Because the base unit in a squad, IABSM does not get down into the weeds of 7 riflemen, plus 1 guy with a pistol and 1 guy with a submachine gun. It is also assumed that the junior officer who leads that squad is part of that 8 men instead of having a separate figure for a junior leader.

In IABSM, the typical platoon consists of three, 8-men squads plus one platoon commander. All 3 squads can get activated either by their Platoon Card or by the Platoon Commander (assuming he has at least 3 initiatives). |
