Help with 2465B failing display please...
9
I have a nice 2465B that I bought as being fully restored and recapped (I’ve not opened it up yet but have no reason to doubt) that only has about 460 hours on it. I bought it back at the end of the summer but have only put maybe an hour and a half on it since; I turned it on a couple of days ago and it had a perfect display then suddenly everything disappeared to a diffuse glow off the right side of the screen (UL to photo album "2465B screen issue") After about 5 minutes it snapped back to being correct and stayed that way for another 30 minutes until I turned it off. I turned it on yesterday and it worked perfectly for about 15 minutes then went back to the fuzzies and has not returned to normal yet. Note there is no gradual transition between states, it is as far as I could tell instantaneous. When the display was working it had a perfect, sharp image and passed all self-tests. The problem is obviously (???) in the CRT/display circuitry, but I have not opened it up yet to check anything – I was hoping to find someone that might be more familiar with these units prior to starting. Any hints and advice are very much welcome.

horz output FETs in 2245?
I was given a 2245 recently which of course doesn't work too well. Investigation reveals that Q805 and Q806, in the horizontal right plate output stage, are cold to the touch. The service manual, section 6.2 (page 6-19) says, The MOSFET output transistors (Q801 and Q802 left plate-- Q805 and Q806 right plate) run hot. If either side is cold, it is defective. So, that's me and now I need to find a couple of these VDMOS FETs, which seem to have become quite rare. They are Tek P/N, 151-1211 VN1316N2 N-Channel VDMOS FET, 160V, 250mA, 40 ohm 151-1212 VP0116N2 P-Channel VDMOS FET, 160V, 250mA, 25 ohm Has anyone solved this problem with a modern replacement pair? and have suggested substitutes? These are in TO-39 package which adds additional challenge but I suppose TO-220 or equiv could be made to fit. Of course, the real thing would be great too if there is a source. Thanks for any leads! sc504 Ghost Images
2
Greetings, I have 2 SC504 scopes. I have done a lot of restoration work on both these units. They are both working now, but I am not satisfied with the trace having ghost. Please take a look at the photo I posted some days ago. At that time I had 1 SC504, since then I have bought another one. BOTH of these scopes display EXACTLY the same ghost trace. When I bought the second SC504 I thought I would have the chance to swap out the CRTs. /g/TekScopes/photo/300558/3883505?p=Created%2C%2C%2C20%2C2%2C0%2C0 Thanks for the responses. Barrr

Updated SG505

This is an interesting article about "Paul" building a modern day version of the Tek SG505. https://hackaday.com/2025/03/29/recreating-the-analog-beauty-of-a-vintage-tektronix-oscillator/ Here's the link to "Paul's" DIY electronics blog on it where you can keep abreast of his progress (as of early March he had prototype PCBs but was missing some parts). https://www.paulvdiyblogs.net/2025/03/diy-build-of-tek-sg505.html

Skirt lettering for scope knobs
14
Greetings! I need to re-letter the skirts for some of my scope knobs. Has anyone done that here? I am thinking that black vinyl reversed letters on transfer stock would work. I found a few sites that provide that service, but I am not sure if they can deal with the small size that would be required. Not sure if a design tool is available online. Other suggestions are welcomed! Thanks, Barry

Tek user comments
Hi all, I have created a new photo album called "Tek User Comments". It's for interesting or amusing comments found written in Tek manuals or as graffiti on equipment. I started it off with a "cry from the heart" obviously written by a frustrated technician who had to calibrate a 7T11. Enjoy! Morris

TDS5034B Software Installation
2
My TDS5034B boots up with a message that TekVisa is not found. After dismissing the message the scope appears to run normally. Tiring of the nag at bootup I decided to find and install TekVisa. The current versions of this software available on the Tektronix site, V4.1.1 and V5.11.1 both state in their prerequisites that my version of OS, Windows 2K, is not listed. I thought that perhaps because Windows7, 8, and 10 were all included that the installation would be allowed. When the install is attempted the screen shows a notification that it is about to be installed and asks for the user to click "Next". The problem is there is no "Next" to click on displayed. I tried an external monitor thinking that maybe it was a resolution issue but there is no "Next" there either. I cannot scroll the screen in any direction. I changed the resolution of the LCD and re-booted. After that I was able to scroll but the "Next" was still not visible so I reverted back to the native resolution. Any Ideas on how to install TekVisa without clicking the "Next" or how to find the button? Thanks, Ferrous PS Although there are a lot of bells and whistles on the 5034B I do not like to boot up delay time. I like the color aspects of the display but my TDS460 has slightly better bandwidth, uses standard probes, and powers up faster.

Tektronix 2213A CRT question
7
Hello All, Back Story: Bought a cheap 2213A off Marketplace with fuzzy display issue, Fixed issue by replacing focus resistors, discovered screen damage in that there was trace distortion in lower half of display, started looking for new CRT, Found a part #154-0838-00 CRT on Ebay, according to Tekwiki this CRT is compatible, My current CRT is part#154-0861-00 but I order it anyway (price is right), get replacement CRT and discover that the HV lead is different and the trace rotation coil is smaller, double check part numbers and find out Tekwiki led me astray and their CRT number index is in error, CRT is out of a 2213 Today: I have done some research and it seems that the HV voltage is higher on the proper 2213A tube. Now what I would like to know is if anybody has tried this substitution and was it successful? Failing that is there any tips on where to find a #154-0861-00 tube, They seem scarce on Ebay. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions

Tektronix 2247A problem. Keep or return?
11
Hi folks. I recently purchased a Tek 2247A scope and upon testing it for the first time, it locked up when testing the B sweep with a msg that said 'INVALID INTERRUPT FROM 0993:F082' When I rebooted, the screen has an indecipherable error message that appears to read something along the lines of 'Part Number 100-xxxx-00' with a bunch of exclamation marks. I couldn't clearly read what the part number as it was out of focus and could get it to focus well enough to read the numbers. The 'Auto Level' and 'Auto' LEDs were flashing which indicates both a RAM and ROM problem according to the service manual. The SGL SEQ LED was also flashing but there's nothing in the service manual that mentions that LED, or at least nothing that I've found. I let the scope sit for 10 minutes and it booted back up in service mode and gave a failed battery warning, and ran through self calibration. I left the unit on and it locked up after about 10 minutes with the same error as before. After the reboot I went into the service menu and ran the self test 'until fail' and the test ran for 30 minutes without issue. I also ran through the self calibration once more. It's now been powered on for a few hours without any problems or locking up and all functions 'seem' to be working as expected. Thoughts? Would something like this be caused by a battery issue? That seems like an easy fix but if it's something deeper, I'm not sure if I'd want to chance it. Thanks! Jay

2230 A4 timing board weird connection
I was working on 2230 which has power supply failure. Changing the main bridge rectifiers CR901... CR904, Q9070 and Cr907 restored the power supply. The scope power ons with an issue CDT issue CDT value changes from 73 to 77 during different sessions of power on. After pushing the one of the menu scrolling key CDT goes off. I have following display issue: 1. No trace 2. Readout tex for volt/div and sec/div display. 3. Intensity and focus works 4. Sec/div switch in A mod doesn't work. I can see only 50m 5ns and. 2s changing the position of switch. 5. Horizontal position switch works but only for half portion of the screen. What I did so far. 1 since there is no trace just a dot I started to Look for horizontal section. 2 looked for ramp signal at waveform 24 and 29 but I could not see any just a dc offset. 3 decided to clean the sec/div switch so according to the instruction I pulled out A4 board which contains sec/div switch. In the A4 boaed I found strange connection. Collectors of q742 and q732 are tied together and connected to A sweep input of U760 while B sweep input is left floating. I will be thankful if some one in this forum suggest on this issue and guide me to resolve the issue of my scope. Thanks Saroj

Advice on 577 Resurrection
2
Hey all, So, based on some exchanges in the thread about the Dennis Tillman PCB for the 577/677 build, I am definitely on my way (parts are coming). But I wanted to start a new topic on the 577 itself to get some advice. This is a 577 that's in very nice condition and when I bought it in 2020, it was sitting in the seller's garage with a trace on the screen. I realize that doesn't mean a whole lot. But here we are 5 years later and, at some point, I'm going to have to bring her back to life. So, I'm looking input on next steps. For example, should I warm it up slowly (and over what period of time) with my variac, etc. Or maybe do some diagnostics on the power supply before plugging into mains. And so on. I have a variety of test adapters but, given the power up sequence suggested in my operator's manual, the one that I don't have that I apparently need is the axial diode adapter https://w140.com/tekwiki/wiki/013-0111-00 Thanks in advance for any replies. CRT's available
3
I have 3 CRT's that came with a lot that I acquired 2 154-0910-00 for a 492 Spectrum Analyzer and 1 154-0934-00 for a 494 can anyone use one or all? I don’t have either of those analyzers so if one of you have one of them here's your chance to score a CRT. The 2 910 are in the original cardboard holder all with Tektronix tags indicating part number. They look new but actual condition is unknown. Let me know if you want one! fitting new 'sleepy eye' power indicator to 2465 'scope?
6
Hi All I have a Tek 2465 which has a small fault I am hoping to repair. This is the 'sleepy eye' power indicator on the front of the 'scope. The power switch itself works fine; but the indicator shows the high-vis 'on' state even when power off. It's a small fault but I would like to sort it. I have managed to find what I think is the replacement part. I had hope it was going to be straightforward to fit it to the end of the shaft running from the front panel to the switch; but having taken the outer 'sleeve' of the 'scope off, it looks like there is going to be more work to get access than I thought. I have stripped this scope down before (I 'recapped' it a few years ago) but I have forgotten most of the order in which I need to do things. Any pointers as to what I should do next? Thanks, Jon N

Dennis Tillman Tek 575 Curve Tracer Adapter PCB?
12
Hi, Does anyone know if there is a way to get the PCB that Dennis Tillman used to provide for the Tek 575 Vacuum Tube Curve Tracer adapter referenced here - the one where you mod something like an Eico 667 tube tester? Were gerber files were ever shared? He provides the schematic in the document, but I don't have PCB design skills, so it would be nice to get an actual board, which he did a really nice job designing. http://bee.mif.pg.gda.pl/ciasteczkowypotwor/Tek/A_VTCT_Adapter_for_All_Tektronix_SCTs_W7PF.pdf He mentioned he could provide it in the document. I had e-mailed him about a year and a half ago and didn't get a reply. I later read about his health issues from other posts in this group. Hope all is well with him. Thanks! Phil
