horz output FETs in 2245? 4
I was given a 2245 recently which of course doesn't work too well. Investigation reveals that Q805 and Q806, in the horizontal right plate output stage, are cold to the touch. The service manual, section 6.2 (page 6-19) says, The MOSFET output transistors (Q801 and Q802 left plate-- Q805 and Q806 right plate) run hot. If either side is cold, it is defective. So, that's me and now I need to find a couple of these VDMOS FETs, which seem to have become quite rare. They are Tek P/N, 151-1211 VN1316N2 N-Channel VDMOS FET, 160V, 250mA, 40 ohm 151-1212 VP0116N2 P-Channel VDMOS FET, 160V, 250mA, 25 ohm Has anyone solved this problem with a modern replacement pair? and have suggested substitutes? These are in TO-39 package which adds additional challenge but I suppose TO-220 or equiv could be made to fit. Of course, the real thing would be great too if there is a source. Thanks for any leads! Updated SG505 7
This is an interesting article about "Paul" building a modern day version of the Tek SG505. https://hackaday.com/2025/03/29/recreating-the-analog-beauty-of-a-vintage-tektronix-oscillator/ Here's the link to "Paul's" DIY electronics blog on it where you can keep abreast of his progress (as of early March he had prototype PCBs but was missing some parts). https://www.paulvdiyblogs.net/2025/03/diy-build-of-tek-sg505.html

Skirt lettering for scope knobs 14
Greetings! I need to re-letter the skirts for some of my scope knobs. Has anyone done that here? I am thinking that black vinyl reversed letters on transfer stock would work. I found a few sites that provide that service, but I am not sure if they can deal with the small size that would be required. Not sure if a design tool is available online. Other suggestions are welcomed! Thanks, Barry

TDS5034B Software Installation 2
My TDS5034B boots up with a message that TekVisa is not found. After dismissing the message the scope appears to run normally. Tiring of the nag at bootup I decided to find and install TekVisa. The current versions of this software available on the Tektronix site, V4.1.1 and V5.11.1 both state in their prerequisites that my version of OS, Windows 2K, is not listed. I thought that perhaps because Windows7, 8, and 10 were all included that the installation would be allowed. When the install is attempted the screen shows a notification that it is about to be installed and asks for the user to click "Next". The problem is there is no "Next" to click on displayed. I tried an external monitor thinking that maybe it was a resolution issue but there is no "Next" there either. I cannot scroll the screen in any direction. I changed the resolution of the LCD and re-booted. After that I was able to scroll but the "Next" was still not visible so I reverted back to the native resolution. Any Ideas on how to install TekVisa without clicking the "Next" or how to find the button? Thanks, Ferrous PS Although there are a lot of bells and whistles on the 5034B I do not like to boot up delay time. I like the color aspects of the display but my TDS460 has slightly better bandwidth, uses standard probes, and powers up faster.

Tektronix 2213A CRT question 7
Hello All, Back Story: Bought a cheap 2213A off Marketplace with fuzzy display issue, Fixed issue by replacing focus resistors, discovered screen damage in that there was trace distortion in lower half of display, started looking for new CRT, Found a part #154-0838-00 CRT on Ebay, according to Tekwiki this CRT is compatible, My current CRT is part#154-0861-00 but I order it anyway (price is right), get replacement CRT and discover that the HV lead is different and the trace rotation coil is smaller, double check part numbers and find out Tekwiki led me astray and their CRT number index is in error, CRT is out of a 2213 Today: I have done some research and it seems that the HV voltage is higher on the proper 2213A tube. Now what I would like to know is if anybody has tried this substitution and was it successful? Failing that is there any tips on where to find a #154-0861-00 tube, They seem scarce on Ebay. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions

CRT's available 3
I have 3 CRT's that came with a lot that I acquired 2 154-0910-00 for a 492 Spectrum Analyzer and 1 154-0934-00 for a 494 can anyone use one or all? I don’t have either of those analyzers so if one of you have one of them here's your chance to score a CRT. The 2 910 are in the original cardboard holder all with Tektronix tags indicating part number. They look new but actual condition is unknown. Let me know if you want one! Dennis Tillman Tek 575 Curve Tracer Adapter PCB? 12
Hi, Does anyone know if there is a way to get the PCB that Dennis Tillman used to provide for the Tek 575 Vacuum Tube Curve Tracer adapter referenced here - the one where you mod something like an Eico 667 tube tester? Were gerber files were ever shared? He provides the schematic in the document, but I don't have PCB design skills, so it would be nice to get an actual board, which he did a really nice job designing. http://bee.mif.pg.gda.pl/ciasteczkowypotwor/Tek/A_VTCT_Adapter_for_All_Tektronix_SCTs_W7PF.pdf He mentioned he could provide it in the document. I had e-mailed him about a year and a half ago and didn't get a reply. I later read about his health issues from other posts in this group. Hope all is well with him. Thanks! Phil

What do you use as an MPS-U45 alternative? 4
Hi all. Apart from the CEN-U45 is there a readily available replacement? Some people are using TIP 102's with the legs crossed over... Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance. James

492 has no 110 MHz IF 15
Hi all, I've been trying to troubleshoot an amplitude problem on my new 492, which has had multiple other little problems along the way. At this point, I can get a stable display and frequency is OK, but amplitude is 20-30 dBm lower than it should be. Attenuator and first mixer seem good, but I'm missing the 110 MHz output from the 2nd converter (should be -37 dBm or -39 dBm depending on band), measuring with HP 8484A. The front panel 2nd LO output is ~17.6 dBm on the first band, and I measure +9 dBM and -1.5 dBm directly on the 2nd LO cavity oscillator, which all seems in the ballpark (and at least verifies the oscillator is not dead). Could the problem be something as simple as the oscillator being off frequency? My microwave counter has a power supply problem that I'm also trying to fix, and I doubt a 7S11/7T11 combo is precise enough to adjust it. I'm mildly tempted to just try turning the adjustment screw on the cavity oscillator and see if the display responds. Any other ideas? I'm not enthusiastic about opening up the 2072 MHz 2nd converter, but that looks like the only thing in the signal path that would lose the 110 MHz IF on all bands. thanks, Adam

Tek 2236 Control Button Error 7
Recently my Tek 2236 began giving a "Control Button Error" message, occasionally at first and now more regularly. Exercising the buttons does not seem to clear this. I ran the CTM diagnostic and everything passes except reading the 1X/10X CH1 sense ring, always indicating "P0" even when the ring is grounded (I don't know if it ever did sense correctly, as I generally used non-encoding probes anyway). In the diagnostic, it reliably reads the positions of all other switches, in particular indicating the push button positions solidly, no glitches seen in the 1/0 transitions in the diagnostic display. Sometimes with no input I get the "OUCH" message on CH1 volts (even with the input set to ground). Otherwise, all of the CRT display functions appear unaffected. When the CTM is working, everything works in the alphanumeric display, when not, I get the scrolling "Control Button Error" message, nothing works in any button configuration. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I have several Tek scopes, analog, full digital, storage (for a 5L4N) and a 4 channel. However the 2236 is my favorite for general bench work. I miss the built-in frequency counter...

Decomposing Cam Switch Drum 9
I recently acquired a PG502 from Tek surplus (aka Country Store) and found several setting to be intermittent. Expecting that a good cleaning would be in order, I was astonished to find that cam switch drum appears to be decomposing. It looks dull, powdery and parched like mud flats after a dessert gully washer! In fact, there was a lot of fine debris on the contact board. Cleaning the board and the contacts made no difference because the cam lobes are deteriorating. I have not touched the cam drum with any cleaner or other chemicals. This unit was used in the production test area; perhaps its entire life. It was last cal’d June 2022. Perhaps it is the result of 45 years of continuous up time in a rack. I have never seen a cam drum look like this. Has anyone seen such a thing? (See photo gallery for “Decomposing Cam Switch Drum.”)

Tek 575 curve tracer, single family position not working
Hello everyone, My name is Jack, and I have a 575 that I am trying to understand better, and to calibrate and fix a couple of small things. The present issue is that I can’t get the single family switch on the step generator to do anything. The repetitive position works as it should, but switching to single family makes all curves displayed on repetitive, disappear. I have the instruction manual for the instrument, and the schematics for all the different blocks. I have cleaned the switch contacts, but am at a loss. Any suggestions for me would be greatly appreciated. I have very limited diagnostic capabilities. Very sincerely, Jack

7934 Service Manual 20
I recently acquired a 7934, and was stepping thru the service manual I downloaded from Tekwiki. Its missing pages 6-22 and 6-23 and every copy I could find was also missing the same pages. Anyone have a copy that would be willing to provide the missing pages? Or better an original manual for sale? Mark W7HPW
