May not be related but I had a lot of trouble with the GQ-4x4 and my 2467B when replacing the Dallas chip. I went with the GQ since I watched a YouTube vid where someone used one successfully with a Tek scope. I wrote to GQ support and the suspected a defective programmer and wanted me to send it in. I returned it to Amazon, didn't want to waste weeks. I ended up buying an XGECU T48 and it worked fine.

Try this exercise to see if this clears up your issue. Its a specific button push in the correct sequence.

CYCLE ERROR CLEAR (Exerciser 03). This routine
provides a way for the operator to clear the cycle-failure
data written to the RAM when a CYCLE mode failure
occurs. Interpretation of the cycle failure data is explained
in the "Display Format" description provided earlier in this
section. Until the data is cleared, each time the
instrument is powered up, the Diagnostic Monitor is
entered.
Clearing the RAM location (and the CYCLE ERROR
message) is done by scrolling to EXER 03 (CLEAR CYCLE
ERROR) and pressing the following switches in sequence:
TRIGGER COUPLING upper (starts exerciser),
TRIGGER SOURCE lower,
TRIGGER MODE lower, then
TRIGGER COUPLING lower (exits the exerciser).
When the CYCLE ERROR CLEAR routine is successfully
executed, the cycle failure data will disappear from
the display.

I bought a no error codes on startup S/N B057443. Inspection of A5 showed no leaking of the SMD eCaps, but the Dallas DS1225Y was 1991 vintage by date code. I bought a new Dallas DS1225AB-200+ from Mouser. Desoldered the old SRAM with a Hakko 472D uneventfully, placed a TE Connectivity 1-2199299-2 28P DIP SKT 600 CL LADDER socket and soldered it in place without drama. Good looking solder joints. I was able to read the 1991 DS1225Y with the GQ-4x4 programmer and saved the data to a .bin file. I wrote and verified the .bin file to the 2023 “new” DS1225AB-200+ SRAM. Placed it carefully and correctly into the sock, and now have the 04 Fail error. Same thing with the old 1991 SRAM.

I read the old and new SRAM data sets after trying startup, both sets of data were significantly changed. Bad solder joints?

I ohm-checked the SRAM socket pins to the A5 board connections, listed below. The lowest resistance I found was a few .02Ω, most common was about .2Ω and the highest was .53Ω. Seems higher than I’d like in general. Normal?

It’s the effect of internal capacitance in the device and/or heating/cooling of the semiconductor junction.

Dave: I will make another round of them. April 5th is not far off but it's possible they could be ready for purchase then.

1) could you please confirm that your 2465B has a low serial?
If so you should have performed the battery mod, else it should fail the battery voltage check, right?

I saw that the original creator of the read utility had a 2465B low serial, so hopefully the FRAM mod is doable also on that model.

2) Could you be so kind and send me *exact* Mouse BOM for it?

I saw the FRAM adapter and yes, probably ARIES got acquired by Cartier.

I could buy the GQ4X4 + eraser, I don't have much use of it but it is something I always wanted to buy, you never know. It seems pretty decent for the price, don't see many alternatives in that price range with the confirmed ability to deal with FRAMs.

I do have a 2465B with a FM16W08 FRAM and so far it has worked perfectly for several years. Plug-n-Play without any special mods or anything else but to mount the FRAM on an SOIC to DIP28 adapter, and copy the NVRAM data into it. I used the GQ4X4 programmer, that is compatible with both the FRAM and the original DS1225 NVRAM. I ordered the FRAM, NVRAM (150nS version), the low profile DIP28 socket and the Aries adapter all from Mouser back then. Last time I checked some months ago those Aries brand adapters (very good quality) where getting low in stock and prices had skyrocketed to something over $63 (!) for one piece, which is about triple what I paid back almost 3 years ago.

I guess one other thing to check is whether J504 is in the correct
position, it should be jumpered between pins 1-2. If it's jumpered between
pins 2-3, it's possible that the DACs reference is bad, which would be good
as that's a well known, repairable fault that can lead to the symptoms you
see.

These all look reasonable.

It's a shame that I've decided to give it up as l observed different
Serial Numbers on different parts of the scope.

I don't think parts or PCBs were serial matched on these scopes, nor
generally in Tek instruments.

l assumed parts may have been replaced/repaired before by someone else.

Seeing how the NVRAM was missing, you know that someone was in there before
you, and without knowing the story it's hard to say whether the scope might
have e.g. been a parts donor. Usually it's reasonable to assume there's
going to be a single fault to fix, but with an instrument that's been a
parts donor, that may not be the case.
That being said, this might be as simple as some other fault on the A5
board or e.g. U950.
There might be some easy diagnostic steps you could try to see if you can
narrow this down, like do the HORIZ/VERT POS controls work and so on.

Someone in this group was kind enough to send me an unbuilt Dennis Tillman PCB. I bought the majority of the parts from digikey/mouser and started building it, and then ended up finding a 570 so never finished it. I can pass it on to someone else in the group now, but would like to recover the cost of the DigiKey order (I have to add it up but I think it was around $70)

There is a revised Service Manual that shows the trimmer on the HV Board. That manual is labeled "REV B May 1980" on the first page of the Table of Contents. So this was a Tektronix factory modification that probably allowed the HV Board to be tuned for different versions of the CRTs.

Option 09 includes the 06 CTT option, plus it allows for using the word
recognizer probe.
The CTT option gives you a counter/timer integrated to the scope. It allows
counting frequency and measuring time intervals, as well as extending the
trigger capabilities a little bit.
This might be useful depending on what you're going to do with this scope.
My 2467 has the 09 option, and I have used its basic functions on occasion.

I may have Option 6 but front plate should have different layout, mine
seems just about OPTION 5 and maybe OPTION 9.

Option 9 includes option 6. IIRC you bring up the CTT menu with the A/B
TRIG/MENU button.

Ouch, I was expecting it to have the ability to send a "screenshot" of
the waveforms too.

This is a purely analog scope, the only place the trace exists is on the
CRT.
