I think you spelled Beauxbatons wrong. The HP Lexicon has it as

If canon spelled the death of fanfic, we wouldn't still have all that
Ferret-loving ship stuff after JKR specifically stated that the Blond
Smirker would not be getting together with Hermione (or, hopefully,
anyone -- with the possible exception of Moaning Myrtle <eg>). Heck,
if fic writers insisted on following the books, we wouldn't have over
half the insane ships out there!

[Snip description of Bob & Alyx's fics]

Both sets of these books start after OOTP. Which is wonderfully
open-ended with such a marvelous starting point. Unfortunately HBP
has narrowed the options tremendously. Horcruxes, it's all about
finding, destroying, eating and otherwise killing Horcruxes. <

True, HBP has rather narrowed the ways in which a story could go for
those who canon-thump, but there's still a lot of potential in the
idea of a Horcrux-hunt -- what are they, where are they, what happens
when they are destroyed -- and, of course, there's always the final
face-off between Ol' Moldieshorts and Harry.

In canon R/Hr is pretty much a given. <
Is it? Well, maybe, but I could see Jo either not having it happen
until the final chapter (you know, the one that says what happens to
everybody thereafter) or even not at all. Sure, they like each other,
but JKR is not one who goes in for happiness much.

Harry kicked Ginny to the curb and will probably end up with no-
one. So much for love being the power he knows not. <

I think you're being a little harsh there. No doubt Ginny is very
unhappy at the "end" of their relationship, but she was more than
half-expecting it, and she knows why he did it -- which, knowing
Harry as she does, she can see comes from an important part of why
she loves him, even if it does make her want to Bat-Bogey him at the
same time. I think she'd take him back.

Having said that, I can also see Jo doing just what you say -- having
Harry end up alone. If she does, then I'm going to burn all my copies
of her books and stick with a limited range of fanfic. I do _not_
need to read a 7-volume epic that follows the classic Hero's Journey
with all its now-cliched events but then leaves out the eucatastrophe
at the end. If I want depressing fiction, I can read litter-a-ture.

Besides, there are certain, potentially important things that point
the other way. Even if you disregard Trelawney's impromptu prediction
of Harry's future in OotP, there's still the matter of the life debt
Ginny owes Harry -- as do Snivellus and Wormtail; I can see those
debts becoming important in book 7; Jo has spent too much time
building the concept up just to ignore it. She might play down its
importance the way she effectively gutted all the significance that
people saw in the Prophecy, but it's still there and I can't see her
not exploiting it -- which means that Ginny will be involved, and
that _ought_ to mean that she will work on Harry. We'll see.

Book 6 does not spell the death of HP Fan fics

Half Blood Prince does not spell the death of Harry Potter fan
fiction. Just because I can't see myself getting involved in post HBP
fics doesn't mean others won't make the attempt.

Let me put it this way. To date Alyx and I have written two H/G six
and seventh year fictions, totalling over 400K words.

Sunset is just coming up to christmas holiday and I'm not honestly
sure if we've even hit the half way point as far as chapter count is
concerned. Its a H/Hr ship, and it's sequel will cover the period of
the seventh year. Ten Chapters so far and we're very close to 150K
words so far. How big it will be when we're done is anyone's guess.

Both sets of these books start after OOTP. Which is wonderfully open
ended with such a marvelous starting point. Unfortunately HBP has
narrowed the options tremendously. Horcruxes, its all about finding,
destroying, eating and otherwise killing horcruxes.

In canon R/Hr is pretty much a given. Harry kicked Ginny to the curb
and will probably end up with no one. So much for love being the power
he knows not. Personally I'm rooting for a Harry Hedwig ship. Silly of
me I know, but unless Ginny somehow manages to knock some sense into
Harry, its just not going to happen.

Harry sent the prophecy by post because of the fact that it never
occurred to me to have him send it any other way. :P

There has been a lot of speculation both in the reviews for Sunset,
and even here about what it all means. I'll drop a clue here by saying
if you've been reading and keeping your wits about you, you've already
been given a bunch of clues concerning the prophecies.

Its been rather amusing to see someone tear apart the prophecy trying
to figure it out and they end up getting bogged down in minutia when
they should be looking at a bigger picture.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. :)

I know I have not finished HBP and you know I am finding it hard to finish it but may JKR will fix it book 7 and if not we have fanfic writers who will....I hope...I pray?JKR didn't mess up the characters that much or at least she gives reasons for all the stuff in HBP in the next book.??My biggest challenge right now is getting through it and I admit I am finding it hard...I have had the book for 3 weeks and I'm only?around chap?6.??But is HP fanfic really dying or is it just a?slump until readers and writers figure a why behind the madness of the characters in HBP??

A good question, and for myself it is because some things were
revealed about characters. Harry using Snape old book instead of
learning to do potion, hermione cheating in order to please ron, and
then becoming lobotomised with jealousy and so on, when her primary
concern has always been to help harry out... i am simply saying we
are...disappointed with the characters. Same with ginny, she is
supposed to be a powerful and talented witch in hpb, but all she does
is snog with a couple of guys- or at least i hope, as i don't like the
lovepotion theory.

Re: A.U.

I'm afraid alyx and I have entirely different plans once we've
completed Sunset and it's planned sequel and it won't involve Harry
Potter. Alyx and I have been talking about trying our hand doing some
original fiction.

I can't really see myself doing anything in the post HBP world, its
very constricting.
Why was i sure you were going to say that? it's sad, because hte
fandom hp is dying, as only a few things could happen now, exept if
you put the horocruxe quest as more than a year...
A question. Did you take the obliviate that redirects one's interest
from a fantasy nvel as it is very familiar...

I'll take the time to answer this one only because it's probably
important that people understand how we write our stories.

I (Bob) usually write the bulk of the chapter with Alyx
occasionally
contributing scenes. Then I pass the chapter to her for editing,
proofing and polishing.

Sunset has a much more complex plot that either Dumbledore's Army
or
Spiritus Crystalus. In both of those fictions a chapter was roughly
the equivalent of a month's time frame.

In Sunset, we have already had several chapters were the total time
covered was barely a few days. In one chapter, it covered just the
first day at Hogwarts.

Such a complex storyline, and one designed to get more complex as
it
progresses, is not always easy to write. Even after a chapter is
complete I have to go back and check it against my plotline to make
sure I've included all the needed steps.

So please, if we've gone from published every other day to putting
out
one or two files a week. Forgive us. :)

- Bob
Thanks. That explains it.

nop, not complete. like emerald tablet, it is heavy on
characterisation (wich i love) but it is also plot driven, and if you
pay attention to detail an awful lot of things will happen. it is h/hr
in the sens that hermione is a strong character in the story, and
harry's best friends. i really recommend it. (but i would also
recommend emerald tablet, so...). anyway, i really recommend this fic,
as it is in many way superior to what we can usualy see in fanfic...
contains a magicaly open harry (meaning that he has more poqwer than
knowledge).

Alyx loved the Emerald Tablet. I was bored. Its a huge story which
spends forever on a birthday party and barely moves beyond the summer

but this story does it at the expense of the plotline.

Lady Alchimia is a wonderful author. But don't look for the Emerald
Tablet to resolve anything.

Re: Updating

I have to agree quality over quantity everytime, and I can't imagine
the storyline from Sunset is an easy one, you seem to have alot of
things going on that are at some point going to come together in a
fantastic way.

After all, as today's chapter pointed out, it has been ages since
Harry considered the threat Voldemort poses.

And was I the only one who felt some sympathy towards Draco when he
was alone with Luna after rescuing her from bullies, that he had to
remind himself that she wasn't a whore his father had passed on to
him. It seemed to sad for a sixteen year old for him to be .....
argh... can't think of the word... experienced seems wrong somehow.

Cheers

Fin

For the length and quality of the chapters, I think getting 2 updates
a week is rather generous. It's much easier to sit back and read
them than it is to actually write them. Trust me, I know. I am as
anxious as everyone else to read the upcoming chapters. Badgering
won't do anything positive. I must content myself with other
distractions knowing that they are working diligently on our behalf.

Bob and Alyx -- great, great work. Keep them coming as best you can.
