Position Overview

This position is based out of our Bismarck, ND office, with fieldwork occurring primarily in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and the surrounding states. We are open to a hybrid work arrangement, allowing the selected candidate to maintain their housing remotely while working out of the Bismarck office as needed.

During the field season (typically April through November), this role offers a minimum 40-hour workweek during regular business hours (Central Time Zone), with opportunities for overtime as project demands arise. Overtime is paid at time and a half. Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience. JOB DESCRIPTION

The incumbent in this position serves as the Deputy State Archaeologist within the Georgia Office of the State Archaeologist (OSA). Under the direction of the Georgia State Archaeologist, the primary duties of this position include management of the day-to-day activities of the OSA including the supervision of one staff member. The successful candidate will focus on managing workflow to provide archaeological technical assistance to the Parks and Historic Sites Division (PHSD) and the Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) concerning compliance with the Georgia Environmental Policy Act (GEPA) and state stewardship laws and partnering with PHDS staff to develop new and update existing interpretive signage, displays, and exhibits. The successful applicant will triage all incoming cultural resource review requests, assign them for review, and ensure they are completed in a timely manner. These projects will require both desktop review as well as field reconnaissance surveys primarily on state lands managed by WRD and PHSD throughout Georgia. Additional duties will include coordinating with partner organizations to provide archaeological outreach programming, providing cultural resource technical assistance to members of the public and other partnering agencies and assist the State Archaeologist with DNR’s NAGPRA compliance. This position will require occasional overnight travel with long days in remote locations. The incumbent will work closely with WRD Forest Management Timber Operations, WRD land managers and biologists, PHSD interpretive and site staff, the DNR State Lands Archaeologist, DNR Engineering and Construction and the Georgia State Archaeologist. Compensation

For non-local techs, UES will pay for drive time and accommodation near the project area, along with $60 per diem and will provide daily transport to and from the site. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Harris Environmental Group (HEG) is seeking four Archaeological Field Technicians for two large cultural resources survey projects in Oregon and Washington.

(The projects will be managed from our Portland, Oregon office, but technicians will be working on-site for the projects and can be located within reasonable travel distance anywhere in Oregon or Washington state.)??

Field Technicians are responsible for assisting the field supervisor in identifying and recording cultural resources in the field. This includes performing pedestrian survey, excavating shovel test probes, identifying and documenting cultural materials (artifacts and features), filling out appropriate site forms and monitoring logs, site/artifact photography, and GPS-based data collection.

Pay range for this position starts at $22/hour and is dependent on experience and education.

The projects will primarily operate on an 8 days on/6 days off schedule (Thursday- Thursday). Per Diem and single occupancy lodging is provided for out-of-town work that requires overnight or longer duration stays. Drive time to and from the project area is paid, as well as per diem.

Position Qualifications:
