Archaeology Crew Chief - Washington State; King and Snohomish Counties - Perteet, Inc

Perteet is seeking an experienced, full-time Archaeology Crew Chief to join our tight knit Cultural Resources group, based in Seattle, Washington. All our field projects are in Washington State, and most are conducted in King and Snohomish Counties.

The salary range for this position is $32 to $37/hour

?

What you will be doing:

  • Supervising archaeological fieldwork including pedestrian and shovel probe survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring independently or under the guidance of a Field Director
  • Conducting solo fieldwork for small projects
  • Maintaining quality notes and records both digitally and using printed forms
  • Collecting data to document archaeological sites and completing archaeological site forms
  • Conducting record searches on WISAARD and completing research tasks
  • Collaborative technical report writing
  • Occasional laboratory or cataloging work

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or an allied field that confers SOI qualification or Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology and at least 5 year’s experience in Washington State
  • Accredited archaeological field school or equivalent training
  • Current valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate a 4WD vehicle
  • Physical ability to carry equipment and supplies (up to 30 lbs.) and walk or hike for long hours during fieldwork
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to a project location for several consecutive days
  • Based in Western Washington in reasonable commuting distance of Seattle
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in various environments and conditions including extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and rough terrain
  • Ability to identify and describe technical attributes of archaeological artifacts commonly found in Washington
  • Ability to accurately describe sediments and soils observed during fieldwork
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Own transportation
  • Experience operating field equipment, including GPS equipment, cameras, and tablets
  • Experience conducting fieldwork in Washington State
  • Experience using ESRI software including Survey 123 and Field Maps
  • Ability to adapt field methods to accommodate emergent conditions such as new data/observations, logistical constraints, or adverse environmental conditions
  • Ability to synthesize field observations for interpretive purposes, including assessment of archaeological potential and evaluation of contextual integrity
  • Active access to the WISAARD database
  • Experience preparing archaeological site inventory forms in WISAARD
  • Experience writing technical reports summarizing archaeological research methods, results, and recommendations
