Brad Babb quoted:
5. Well, it's so good to be here, asleep on your lawn.
Remember your guard dog? Well, I'm afraid that
he's gone

This brings to mind the nagging old question....

What happened to the guard dog? Was he merely unleashed and let go or or
was he killed?

Anyone have any ideas on that?

"We thought we were going to be together for about 15 years," said Young,
pictured looking away from his colleagues on the sleeve of Last Time
Around, "because I knew how good it was." It lasted a little over two
years. All of their albums, he said, had been "failures".

Re: 03-22-1985 Performance Question . . . Also aburner question - Roxio

david -

I can't help you with the 3/22/85 info, but about burning.....

Roxio's products are fine for making data CD's.
But for audio, go straight for the gold and get EAC (Exact Audio Copy).
It's free.

Plextor is an exceptionally good drive in conjunction with EAC. You'll need
to properly configure EAC for your drive.
Here's a couple of great websites that provide a tremendous amount of
technical information about EAC as well as some other great CDR/audio
related info.

Good luck.

Unpredictable Me

spookedhorse

Right after Gus, his band's drummer, and myself watched Year Of The
Horse on the big screen in Spokane, WA, I lucked onto a cd by Little
Walter that has the song Temperature on it. I've edited this great
song once more in hopes that y'all will see what my health situation
is these days and how it affects my out-of-town concert
attendance :>)

'fRed Sun's got the high blood pressure
fRed Sun's got the high blood pressure

150 over 110 when he's just relaxing
155 over 115 after climbing stairs
160 over 120
It gets too high to stay alive

fRed Sun's got the high blood pressure these days
fRed Sun's got the high blood pressure these days

When he sees his Baby coming down the street
He feels his blood pressure getting a higher beat
164 over 122
It gets too high to stay alive

His Baby gives him the high blood pressure
His Baby gives him the high blood pressure

150 over 110 is just a false alarm
His blood pressure is 164 over 122 when he holds her in his arms
164 over 122
It gets too high to stay alive'

Looks kind of like the only one who can save fRed in time for him to
catch a CSNY 2002 show is Ms. Healer. H-m-m-m-m-m, let me see now,
doesn't Neil sing that she's "out on the Prairie?".......
Tx
fRed Sun

ps Just a little hint about why I'm so "unpredictable" regarding road-
trips these days. Three weeks before the Bridge concerts last year,
the old blood pressure was way up in the 160's so I cancelled. Then,
a couple of days before it was down around 150 top-end, which isn't
too bad. So I guess from now on, it'll be last-minute-decisions
regarding road-trips.

It's official - I'm going to Austin!

Cathy Harris

Just bought my tix - Sec 21 row 2 seat 9! Yeehaw....I'm excited now! Can't
wait to meet all the rusties at the pre-show. I'd be interested in ride
sharing (your car or mine) if anyone else is going to the show from DFW
area. Real flexible on leave and come back times, can do overnight or
immediate return. Just have to be back in time for the Dallas show!

I think we can safely now declare row 21 the Official Austin Dancing Zone.
If you are in row 21 or row 22 seat 9 you better bring your dancing shows,
cause cathy gets into the zone with Neil. I've witnessed it in person! It is
a beautiful site to behold.

Re: Mojo review of AYP

TheeBigguy

Well I could not agree with you more. I think Neil needs Crazy Horse and
thats the answer. will put some feeling some edge to this new album. And in
my review of the album the first complaint was background vocals, might be
the worst I have ever heard on any album ever......It is sad to see that the
Neil fans who swear Neil does nothing wrong actually post messages as if
this album is great. At best this album is one of his worst. Again "Ain't
got no T-bone" was bad but it was so Neil you understood it. This album
seems like a contractual effort to make Warner's happy.......

Subject: Mojo review of AYP

Hello everyone,

The April issue of Mojo has a full page review of AYP (Jules must be on
week-end, if I'm the first to mention), which is rather negative. Only
She's
a Healer and Goin' Home are rated good. The review, entitled "Pressure
Drop"
ends with "AYP offers largely platitudes and unconvincing soul rehashes of
the Commitments variety. It's not one of his most inspired records".
A little bit hard, but generally speaking, I must say I agree with their
review, and I'm afraid for Neil that most of the English and French
critics
will share this opinion. It's been one month since I first listened to
this
record, and if it's pleasant enough to listen to as a background music
while
you're busy doing something else, it is definitively a shallow album. The
big problems on this album being :
- Booker T and the MG's : sorry to say, but they are a great backing
band for Otis or Wilson, but not for Neil (except live in 1993) ; their
sound is too mellow, lacking passion and surprises,
- the songs : apart from She's a healer (the real surprise, what a
sound
on this one) and Goin' Home (a great song, but it sounds completely out of
place here...)
- the guitar riffs : my God, he sounds like Gary Moore on several
songs
(Mr Disappointment for instance)
- the voices : Neil's voice is not very well assured on a number of
songs and it doesn't always firt very well with the soul/rhythm'n'blues
background, and I must repeat (I mentionned it in my first review of AYP)
that the background vocals are very often terrible (out of tune, not
together, and plain)

This is just my opinion, shared with some friends who listened to the
album
with me, and I was happily surprised to read some very good reviews from
many Rusties out there. We're jsut a family with different tastes but the
same love for Neil. But sometimes, "qui bene amat, bene castigat".

Take care everybody

Palomino Nero

Re: If it wasn't for bad luck.............

Cathy Harris

So sorry to hear of your bad luck Sheila! I've had a little luck with these
Radio giveaways. Many years ago, I won tickets for a WHO show at the Cotton
Bowl. Can't remember the year, Billy Squire was touring with them. Then once
I won a key to try and start a new Camaro. It was promoting the car as
classic, winner got a new and a classic version of the Camaro. To qualify
you had to be the ninth caller when the station played a now and then set
from any artist. I qualified on a Neil set, can't remember (seems to be a
recurring problem) the songs, but I was so excited to win with Neil! I
thought it was a omen, it wasn't.

Re: Unpredictable Me

I, too, thought of Joni Mitchell when I heard Neil sing, "She's A Healer". I
thought he could also be making references to the "Healer" within himself
because Neil sings, "she's a blue-eyed healer within me"...maybe his feminine
side. I remember Neil having the most striking blue eyes when we looked at
each other and I fell into them like locked away for a few seconds that I had
to snap. I thought of maybe him meaning that his wife, Pegi, could also be
the "Healer" for Neil. Eitherway, I love that song. For me, the "Healer"
signifies all the true women I have met in my life and just like Joni sings,
I shall repeat here at Rust, "It takes a heart like Mary's these days when
your man gets weak." ...and I also consider myself a Mother Mary gal by
letting her life be my example to live by. She's my "Healer's" Mother...and
here's a cheer to all the "Healer" Gals out there...from me!!!

YOTH's "Slip Away"

Charlie Macon

Mary wrote: "But YOTH is an honorable mention just
because it has a great version of "Slip Away" on it,
which may just be my favorite Neil song ever..."

I reply: I would add that this is a RELIGIOUS version
of "Slip Away." My first listening of that song had
me praying to the heavens, and I swear it seems to get
better with every listening experience. For me it has
two absolute bests in Neil's guitar playing...the two
chords during "and when the music started, she just
slipped away".....and the noodling lead guitar work,
especially near the end of the song. Poncho's guitar
playing augments all of this perfectly, especially the
melodic higher notes he plays......Billy's bass
playing works directly on the soul, actually shaping
the emotional experience of the song...and Ralph's
excellent drumming keeps all the musicians here on
earth thank goodness!

Take care, Charlie
