If you are using linux, you can use ssh -X (pi hostname or IP address ) and run the pi's X-Windows session on your linux PC. The X-Windows runs better on a PC than it does on the pi. I mention this

Have you tried Vox mode on the radio? I read somewhere that it might need to be enabled for certain radios. Maybe that will get things transmitting?

Thanks for the tip on get get_ params. I have not got it working yet. I am copying other stations, but it won't transmit. Xastir says it is but the ptt lite doesnt come on.
