Mmdvm OLED display
Would this OLED display work for a MMDVM hat display? Or is the length too much & things won't display correctly? So far I've only used the. 096 size oled screens.

PiGate and AX25 (was Re: PiGate and VARA HF)
Do you know if someone created similar PiGate functionality but for AX25? When in a shelter, we don't have a reliable RMS but we do have a bbs. PiGate and VARA HF

Hi all. I have been hoping that someone would have, by now, gotten VARA HF to work with PiGate. I have not seen any reference to this. Perhaps I missed it or perhaps no one has worked on it. Capturing output of rigctl commands with Bash
4
I working on a Bash script to see if my IC-7300 is powered. I know that enter the following on a command line rigctl -m 3073 -r /dev/ttyUSB1 -s 115200 get_powerstat will return a "1" if the power is on. What I'm having trouble with is putting that in a bash .sh file and then capturing that output. It is all part of a bigger project. As you may surmise, I know just enough about Bash to be dangerous. 73 Dave WB9TEN

Low voltage solution +WARNING+
7
WARNING +++++++ I purchased three of these (see URL below) a few weeks ago. Perhaps I received a faulty batch but all three of them performed the same. On a 'soak test' with an input of 14.2v and a 1R load on the 5v output. The 100uF 50v wkg capacitor next to the input terminals reached such a high temperature that I received a blister to my finger when I picked up the board. This was only after the unit had been supplying power for a few minutes. I doubt the capacitor will last for long before failing, perhaps causing the demise of the powered equipment. I dont have a means of measuring the temperature it reached but it was hotter than my Weller soldering iron tip. I assume that this is caused by the current flowing through the cap, because 14.2v across a 50v cap should'nt get vaguely warm. The other 100uF 50v cap on the board was relatively cool, having only been heated by the dissipation of the silicone devices on the board. Your experience may be different, but I would recommend a soak test before committing this board to use. hth, Mike G8NXD On 09/11/2024 13:15, Kevin Gray via groups.io wrote:

Power/Audio Hat for RPi3B
2
I've got an RPi3B+ I want to set up for APRS and other fun. Ideally, I'd like to have a HAT that will take 12V power and give audio interface. I think the DRAWS HAT will do this, but I wonder what, if any, alternatives are out there. I understand the current DRAWS HAT is being discontinued, but I can find zero information its replacement. Their web page just says it's on sale pending release of updated version but says nothing of what the updated version is or when it will be available. I know I could use a DigiRig and 12V power supply or similar combinations, but for my particular application, a HAT would work much better for me. Thanks, Michael WA7SKG

Pi4 Pilinbpq Ports
9
Hello. I Install a clean copy of Pilinbpq on a new Pi4 running 64bit Bookworm. The install was from the 73 Linux distro and seems to be working well except! Two new issues. AXIP MAP station take a long time to reconnect after a reboot they do finally connect. I have a 2nd AXIP port that handles my AREDN tcp connections it connects right away.. I had the same setup on the original pi as well. Can not access the BPQ web server or telnet from outside of my network using ddns.net. This has to be some sort of permissions problem, if I start the original pi4 w/BPQ it connects fine. I have opened all the same ports on my network for the new pi. If you ping the ddns.net it resolves just fine. I can connect inside my network with no problem it is only from outside. When I use a port checker 8008, 8015, 8017 all come back as Filtered. Near as I can tell there is no firewall or iptables running on the Pi. Any thoughts would be greatly apparated All the above ports list have been opened in the port forwarding section of my router as well, and rebooted. Thank you! Glenn/N3MEL

The system works well and I find it very high-performance but when I go to install Hamclock the process runs smoothly but when the installation is finished the icon does not appear and I cannot find a way to start it. The Hamclock soft is present among the soft but I can't start it. I saw that there is a post where Wayland is mentioned which appears (I understand) already installed in my system. I don't think it's important (because I also tried on another monitor with the same results), Raspberry Pi 5 is supported by a small 10.1-inch IPS 1920x1200 touch screen monitor. HAMRS install
9
Hello everyone, I admit that I am new with Raspberry Pi and am having difficulties. I have had a Pi 400 running HamClock for a year but that is as far as I could get going with running a Pi. This week I decide to get a Pi4 going so I could run HAMRS during POTA. I put the touch screen together, installed the Pi got the mouse and keypad going but that is it. Same old programs running as in the past. I downloaded the HAMRS app and cannot get it to execute. I downloaded appImage, several different flavors but nothing works. Obviously I am doing something wrong but where? I have reviewed youtube videos and tutorials but they are old like 5 years ago. HAMRS touts itself as a new app just being built up recently. I am asking if someone has the patients to work with me and get this Pi going. I can work in the terminal with commands but I am frustrated. I understand Python, I understand C++ but I do not understand why this linux is kept in the dark. My email is n2tnn@... or we can discuss my problem here. 73 all, Dean/ N2TNN

WSJTX and GPIO on PTT
4
I am running WSJTX on a Raspberry Pi 4 with Bullseye 64-bit OS. Unfortunately, my GPIO 17 (the RTS line of ttyAMA0) is defective. I now want to control PTT with another GPIO pin. The transceiver does not have a CAT or other port. I have tried to do this with a script that listens to the PTT status in WSJTX, but it does not respond to pressing PTT. I have chosen Hamlib rigctld as the rig, and the CAT button turns green, so rigctld is communicating with WSJTX. How can WSJTX control a GPIO?

Winlink + VARA on Pi 5 tests
8
Greetings, I thought I*d share my results thus far here. YMMV, of course, but this is what I*ve found in my testing. Setup Icom IC-7100 with Chameleon EmComm III Base antenna Raspberry Pi 5 with Raspberry Pi OS (Linux hampi 6.1.0-rpi7-rpi-v8 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 1:6.1.63-1+rpt1 (2023-11-24) aarch64 GNU/Linux) Wine + Box86 + Box64 Results With some help from a couple of youtube videos and tips here on this list, I got things running. (The version of Box64 was really important.) I did initial testing with my Icom 7200 and a dummy load on the antenna. Rig comms were pretty easy to get working. Then I moved to my 7100 with the real antenna. Linux-based ham radio apps worked really well. I use GridTracker for logging and jtdx for FT8 a lot, so I got those going first. I also got flrig running so I could set rig parameters (e.g., power level) easily. All of these worked fine, although I occasionally have to reset audio device names in setup. (Not sure why, but they*d occasionally ※forget§ prior functioning configurations.) For GridTracker, I use UDP forwarding to send my log entries to my Mac running MacLogger. Worked flawlessly. And then I started working with Winlink Express, VARA HF, and VARA FM. The good news is I got them all working and was able to send and receive emails via RMS as well as P2P. (I run an alternate NCS for Winlink Wednesday, so Winlink P2P mode matters greatly to me.) The bad news is that stability is not ideal. Sometimes, when I switch from RMS to P2P, I get an error saying the TNC couldn*t initialize the server on 127.0.0.1. That seemed to be largely due to device resources being released slowly. If I waited a minute or two, it would usually work, but not always. I could manually kill windows process and that seemed to do it, but not every single time. Even merely running for extended periods of time was not stable. I put my rig into VARA HF P2P mode and sent/received email with a buddy about 500 miles away (Alexandria, VA to Nashville, TN). It worked, bidirectionally just fine. But, after a couple hours, Winlink Express would sometimes die without warning or user interaction. Just poof and it was gone. Conclusion As of right now (Feb 2024), I feel the setup is great for lightweight portable operations. POTA would be awesome. Low power and light weight. Certainly, all the Linux ham apps ran like champs. My family and I take week-long trips to the North Carolina Outer Banks beaches often, and this will be my go-to for radio comms there. I run entirely on solar power + battery there, and this setup should be just fine. (Even better once the USB-C power issues are figured out completely.) But, I am NOT ready to run it as my Winlink Wednesday station, though. I*ll stick with windows (ptui!) for now on that. When a windows (ptui!) app has better stability than a Linux one, that*s bad news. I hope things improve on that front, and I have no doubt they will. Cheers, Ken van Wyk, K0RvW Armata Scientia
