?Stan, there is a program called 'xming X Server for Windows' that will allow you accomplish what John mentioned. You can use it with putty to ssh in and grab a x11 session. Here is a link to a pdf that will help you if you choose this route. As far as your initial question there is some documentation here: At the bottom of the link you can select the operating system you are trying to connect from and it will go into further detail. There is also another video output available on your version of the pi with use of a 3.5mm four pole plug to three RCA cable. Hope this helps and best of luck, Scott KC9QEN |

Re: VNC connection problem
If you are using linux, you can use ssh -X (pi hostname or IP address ) ?and run the pi's X-Windows session on your linux PC. The X-Windows runs better on a PC than it does on the pi. ?
I mention this because if you are planning on using VNC on MS-Windows? NE3E On Sun, Aug 31, 2014 at 11:39 AM, stan.gw3srm@... [Raspberry_Pi_4-Ham_RADIO] <Raspberry_Pi_4-Ham_RADIO@...> wrote:

Re: VNC connection problem
Thank you for your very prompt response Alan. You have given me something to work on. I will have to find the previous posts that you referred to and emulate?a setup with my RPi B+ before passing the info over to my granddaughter. It sounds?like VNC setup is a well trodden path although it doesn't seem to be in the files. 73 Stan GW3SRM . |

Hi Stan, just to kick the discussion off ....is
this a firewall problem??
To use the desktop I used xdrp on the Pi?and
remote desktop connection from windows pc (see previous posts to the
group)
For the commane line interface / terminal, I used
SSH with PuTTY on the PC
Both work fine here with W7 but not sure about

VNC connection problem
Greetings everyone, I am a new member.
?
I have a problem successfully connecting a VNC (tightvncserver) between a laptop computer and a RPi B.
?
The RPi B and the laptop are my 11 yr old granddaughter's who lives in Cyprus.
?
I have just bought her the B and the problem is that she does not have easy access to a hdmi tv and would prefer to use her laptop with the RPi.
?
We can readily identify the IP addresses but the laptop and RPi don't want to talk to each other. Obviously I must be doing something wrong.
?
Is there surefire way of doing it?
?
I now have a RPi B+ myself and hope to utilise it in amateur related activities.

Re: Raspberry Pi (B) with TNC-Pi not working

Thanks for the tip on get get_ params. I have not got it working yet. I am copying other stations, but it won't transmit. Xastir says it is but the ptt lite doesnt come on. Frustrating! On Aug 30, 2014 4:23 AM, "fyrfyter@... [Raspberry_Pi_4-Ham_RADIO]" <Raspberry_Pi_4-Ham_RADIO@...> wrote:

Hi Jim, I'm sure you're aware of the WSPR Forum, otherwise it seems this is the place. It sounds like you've got what it takes - but I've found the antenna to be all-important with R-Pi-level power (40mW). I don't know if you mean you're using a magnetic loop or a larger loop that is tuned to 20 meters, but I suspect either will work if resonated and fed with low-loss feedline. I have a mag loop halfway completed that I was going to try on WSPR but can't speak from personal experience (yet). . But having put my WsprryPi beacon bask on the air again just yesterday I can report that I am getting between 2 and 6 spots from US reporters every transmission, using a 3 element SteppIR at 55 ft. In the past when I used my HyTower vertical antenna, the spot rate would be significantly lower but it was still heard. If you still get no spots, I'd try a simple 20 meter dipole, even if it's not very high, as this would provide a basis for comparison. Probably not, the frequency shifts are so small (around 1.5 Hz) that it's very difficult to detect them by ear. I use the JamesP6000 verision exclusively due to the brilliant self-calibration feature he created. It has eliminated the #1 source of frustration from my earlier attempts and I recommend it, otherwise you'll have to come up with the required frequency correction factor using one of the other methods described. WSPR requires a high degree of frequency accuracy and real time synchronization, and this version can do both automatically from the command line. I also like the "-o" or Offset feature, which changes your transmit frequency slightly to increase the odds of being heard. It's amazing to know that an I/O pin on a computer can generate a signal that can be heard all around the world. Keep trying and I'll look for your call on the WSPR map soon! 73, Bob W9RAN |
New WSPRRY question
If there is a more appropriate forum for WSPRRY, kindly point me there.
I just installed WSPRRY on a model B. I connected it through a commercially-made 20m band pass filter to a large loop antenna. I have not seen any reception reports even after transmitting for several hours on 14097000. I decided to monitor it on my HF receiver, and can clearly hear when the transmission start and stop. I expected to hear some varying tone, perhaps like those I hear when I operate WSJT. What my untrained ear hears sounds more like a constant carrier, with the tone not seeming to change. Does this mean something is wrong? I tried 2 different packages. The screen displays are different, but the results seem to be the same. " and "git clone Suggestions appreciated. 73 de Jim, KD1YV |
