Dave,
How about adding some radio astronomy programs to your image, and maybe feature them. For one I am interested in this subject. I even have two telescopes in the shack.

Re: Connecting screen and fan to GPIO pins at same time

Does the 3.5" display GPIO connector have the holes open all the way thru, or are they dead ended so nothing could stick out the top?
If they are thru hole, just get a 40 pin stacking header.? Plugs onto the Pi GPIO pins and the leads sticking up are long enough to go thru the board on top.? They are used for stacking multiple hats on one Pi.
You could also plug the fans into a USB port for 5V as well

Are you an author that spent months writing an original work or just the assembler of other peoples work into a new format.
I would suggest that the vast majority of your "work" was just the assembly of other's effort into your own distro.

1. The window for the WSJT-x cannot be reduced beyond a certain size. It is a bit large for the 7 inch screen so to operate all the buttons I have to "grab" the window by using ALT and the mouse left button to move the window around. It is annoying, but does work. Is there another version of WSJT-x that I could install over the current one to fix this? In the W3DJS V1.0 WSJT-x, I was able to fit it all onto the screen.?
Dennis,

Thank you for the report with regards to the 7 inch screen. I don't know if this will specifically help you, but it can't hurt to try... There is another weak-signal software program installed -- JTDX. You might try running JTDX and see if it will fit within your screen dimensions.

I hope this helps. 73,

Re: Transmit message <...>0/zzzzzzzz in WSJT-x using W3DJS image window is too large for 7 inch screen

As far as the?<...>0/zzzzzzzz goes, I checked with the other station and it wasn't transmitting my call, just "<...>"? I went into settings and deleted my call and re-typed it. I also noticed that the grid locator now had "EL8" instead of EL87. Why it dropped the digit, I'll never know.
Anyway, after fixing those things, I found that it was transmitting just fine and immediately made a contact with a station in Wyoming, so all is well.
Why it gliched, it is up to the software gods.

As for the window being too large, I don't have a solution for that.

Thank you, Keating and Jeff.

One more thing I'd like to point out has been completely overlooked by?everybody on this message thread.

The installation of BOINC is performing RADIO TELESCOPE RESEARCH. It is helping to search for Pulsars -- the very same thing that K1JT (the creator of WSJT-X) got his Nobel Prize for...

I find it very ironic that hams would generally object to running software which furthers research into RADIO ASTRONOMY.

Or am I the only one who gets this irony?

Granted -- if running BOINC causes you issues, please get in touch with me. I'll help you fix it. But if not, why wouldn't you want to further RADIO TELESCOPE RESEARCH?

Here's a link to the project:?

Agreed. Thank you Dave. I appreciate your effort, and I'm sure
countless others do too. Ignore the trolls. As you said, they don't
have to use the software. You aren't forcing anyone to do anything.
As for the "death of open source" comments, they fail to realize how
often this scenario plays out.. Someone volunteers their time, and
contributes it to the community. The community finds 1 thing they
don't like, and naysays it constantly. Original volunteer feels
unappreciated or gets annoyed and stops offering contributions. Talk
about the *REAL* death to opensource.. it's these guys who DON'T
contribute, but publically want to crap all over those that do. I've
been there, in your shoes Dave. Don't let them get to you.

Wow, the download stats certainly do justify your self-assessment as a guru and pioneer.

Quick question....how many of those downloads are actively running 3 weeks later?? How many have opted out after realizing the restrictions on your "license"?

My advice to any ham that gets your stuff and wants to change it is to go ahead.? Your "license" is unenforceable.

I'm not at the radio at the moment, but I seem to recall seeing it in the CQ text as well. I have a second station and at some point I will monitor what I'm actually transmitting to see if it compares to what I see in the receive window. Any thoughts?

If you're talking about the 3.5 inch display from Adafruit, there is a header under the screen that has power to it. Pins 1 and 4 I think.
