I'm happy with my Q900
Before this group closes I just want to share that I'm very happy with my Q900.?
It's been working since day one and is still in use. Build in sound and cat is a great plus.?
I love the radio. I should have included the DMR module, which I miss.
?
Best regards,

Obituary for this Q900 group is imminent
I purchased a Q900 early on hand have had no luck in getting support from the vendor, the manufacturer, the author of the IOS app, from. nor from eBay, nor from PayPal.
?
The site is registered in my name and there have been no charges to this point. However, my credit card is due to be charged when we get to 100 users, which is about now. I spent a lot of time here early on, but I did not get enough joy from the site nor the rig to sustain interest I bought a G90 and have been satisfied.?
?
I had/have no interest in supporting the PMR-171 nor any other related product.
?
If you have not done so already I advise you to look at WhatsApp for interesting and often very technical discussion of issues and progress. You will also see quite a bit of frustration from others who have had my experience.
?
I'm really sorry for the initial purchase, for the subsequent experiences, and for not getting fulfillment for myself and for numerous others who sought help here.
?
I could go on and may do so later.

More internal photos at the FCC: https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/2BEJV-PMR-171/7101755.pdf Interesting that the power specs have changed, as I understood it the Q900 ran off a 2 cell lithium batt. If you ever have this apart again, I would be very interested in the actual weight (as GH have several quite different weights in various places), and weights of parts mic, batt, outer case sleeve, pcbs. i was about to buy a Q900 with an eye to making a light weight carbon case to replace the aluminium outer sleeve, to make it close to my '817s weight (750g incl batts) |
Re: Q900 V4 Is it Available?
I was also trying to order Q900, as I was looking for an '817 replacement. Somehow the PMR-171 seems to have doubled in weight for the same innards, and is now the weight of my FT-891.
If you want to use 2m/70cm, then the RX sensitivity given in the specs? is poor on 2m and very poor on 70cm ((0.5uV, 12dB worse than FT817). If they perform per specs - you won't be using it with great success for satellite comms or VHF/UHF SSB contest work without a preamp Given that they don't seem able to give a consistent weight for these radios, they might be better or worse than specs. |
Cost of upgrading and continuing this resource
Anyone may look at the links at the bottom of the home page to ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý to see a list of costs and benefits.
Briefly, the minimum cost (for a long time - until a few hundred users) is $20/month or $220/year. See the attachment for a brief list of benefits. There is a free trial ?period. I should have done that or just paid the $20 until more users and experience accrued. George W9ZSJ |
ReadMe Please: Re: We are approaching 100 members...
Thanks, Dick.
But, now we have less than 85, so the pressure is off.? I will get cost estimates soon and make some proposals. Until then, I hope all can look at the potential of a paid membership as in the attachment. There are many useful options and a huge manual. There is a Patreon-like scheme for paying. I am willing to bear the cost for a short time if it is deemed useful to some. There is a hashtag scheme to use in sending messages which, if adopted would simplify access and administration.? Personally, I think there is room for both WhatsApp and a resource like this. The intended audiences pretty clearly are delineated in my mind. I enjoy following WhatsApp but I don't think most owners want to use their soldering irons nor do they have the interest/skills shown by many posters there. More later.? George W9ZSJ |
Re: We are approaching 100 members...
Hi George,?
What would the costs be? Annually.. Maybe people could send, based on that some annual payment? PayPal? To support your efforts in this.. I truly hope you don't get into trouble with your wife... We would definitely miss you if things go sour for you ? Dick PD0DF |

In my opinion The Icom 706 version 1 Is one of the best Radios made! I bought one on eBay From Japan Had to do a mode to it to work on 40 meters.I have the Q900 V4 & like the radio Also the G-90 is a great Qrp rig Bang for the Buck Yeasu 817- 818 is a good rig With CAT cables & RTL dongle you can build pan adaptor to make them Nice SDR radios Look into HDSDR Omni rig & HamRadio deluxe for computer control Best of luck 73 KOSHF? Hi Donald
To be fair, the people at Guohetec have asked me to contact them direct for the best price. ?Having been somewhat messed about by a previous vendor on AliExpress, I¡¯d feel better dealing the manufacturer direct who have sent me friendly and helpful emails.? Im looking at the PMR-171 now but as Geoff has mentioned the IC 7100 is also a contender and will actually do what I need the radio to do! ? Its such a shame there are so many conflicting reports, I love the look and spec of these little Guohetec radios but I dont have money to just throw away on a punt! ?I already have a Xiegu X6100 and cant fault it, its terrific!? 73 Lucy M6ECG |
Re: Q900 V4 Is it Available?
Hi Geoff,?
Thanks for the heads up on this! Just to verify, are you referring to the Q900 or the PMR-171? I had also come to the conclusion that the 7100 might be the way to go or even the now very, very retro IC706MKIIG! ?Im more inclined to the 7100 though as they're newer and I could afford a decent second hand offering ¡ ?I do love an Icom! ?Do you use yours /p? ?Is it bulky and heavy to lug about? Whats power consumption like running low power?? It really surprises me that Icom havent developped more ultra portable rigs to go alongside the 705 with slightly more wallop especially now that POTA has proved to be such a big hit with so many!? Thanks again for your info! ? Lucy? |
We are approaching 100 members...
... then it will cost money.
What will happen then? I need input and action on this question, else I will not approve any new members. The cost will be currently applied against the joint credit card with my wife, who monitors all expenses on that card. I have not told her about the Q900 nor the creation of this effort to support those who have purchased a Q900. I really don't want to, either. Please tune in on this issue and stay tuned. More after I return from this morning's ham breakfast where we might talk about the Q900 and this resource. My ham friends there have known about the Q900 since I bought one without the plug in options when they were not yet available. When I discussed my own difficulties with the rig, one of the several former Motorola employees observed, "Not ready for prime time!". Amen. George W9ZSJ |

Out of stock at the moment, generally restocks quickly. Same radio, more accessories. On Tue, Mar 26, 2024, 13:19 Lenny Klosinski <polebrother@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Lucy,
Bearer of bad news I'm afraid.I had issues with the radio and it eventually went back to Banggood for a full refund.HF side was ok but problems with little or no output on vhf/uhf.No support from vendor or the manufacturer.
Fortunately i paid for it with my credit card/paypal.
I went back to an Icom 7100 for same band coverage but not an sdr receiver.
Good luck with your search

Hello,?
Im trying to get this rig and ordered one back in January from a vendor on AliExpress who sat on my money for a month and then dragged his feet issuing a refund! Grrrr! ?Ive tried links from TechMinds YT vids and they show it as unavailable. ?Anyone here know if its still available and from where I can get it from please? ?If not, anyone know of something similar? ?I love its compact size and the fact its HF, UHF & VHF!? 73, de Lucy, M6ECG |
Re: Q900 V4 Is it Available?
Guohetec have informed me the Q900 is now discontinued ?, the PMR- 171 has superceded it. ?I may well get one of these instead although it looks somewhat bigger than the Q900! ?But in many respects it fits the bill as a pseudo military style radio with most connections at the front end allowing back pack operation. ? Its got the same waterfall and buttuns as the Q900.?
Glad to hear youre enjoying your rig! ? |
