In my opinion The Icom 706 version 1 Is one of the best Radios made! I bought one on eBay From Japan Had to do a mode to it to work on 40 meters.I have the Q900 V4 & like the radio Also the G-90 is a great Qrp rig Bang for the Buck Yeasu 817- 818 is a good rig With CAT cables & RTL dongle you can build pan adaptor to make them Nice SDR radios Look into HDSDR Omni rig & HamRadio deluxe for computer control Best of luck 73 KOSHF?

I had also come to the conclusion that the 7100 might be the way to go or even the now very, very retro IC706MKIIG!? Im more inclined to the 7100 though as they're newer and I could afford a decent second hand offering … ?I do love an Icom!? Do you use yours /p?? Is it bulky and heavy to lug about? Whats power consumption like running low power??
It really surprises me that Icom havent developped more ultra portable rigs to go alongside the 705 with slightly more wallop especially now that POTA has proved to be such a big hit with so many!?
